Scene One (00:01-02:05) The episode opens up with shoot of lavish throne room. Its fixtures are all adorned in shades of black and dark blue. The camera quickly shift upward. A massive crystal chandelier that hangs in the center of the room. After lingering on the chandelier for a while, the camera tilts downward; the camera shifts to black metal throne. Seated in the throne is Celeste Chastain. She leans back comfortably as she crosses her legs and glances out at the members of Project EXILE. She looks over at her Jasper Nass and nods her head. Jasper confidently steps forward holding a black folder. Celeste asks for a status report. He opens the folder and goes about reading the daily report. There’s moderate news about crop supplies and inventory. Jasper reports that the Zano region is stable after its recent takeover. He goes down a small list of regions, all of them are doing alright. However, he does hesitates on the area. “Speak Jasper—out with it. You have nothing to fear” Celeste says as she stares directly at him. He lets out an exasperated sigh. “Well, there’s been a small issue arising in the Nighmere region. Some of our military platoons and patrols have faced attack over the past couple of weeks.” Jasper notes that the resistance has come when the forces are in or near some of the more small and impoverished villages. Celeste raises an eyebrow as she places her hands in her lap. “How intriguing,” she says. Jaspers tells her that it’s nothing to worry about and that their forces shall vanquishes the foes. Celeste gives him a quizzical look, almost as she doesn’t believe his words. “I want this handled immediately, Jasper. Do you remember what happened last time there was an uprising?” She talks briefly about how certain regions tried to buck back when she first took power; she doesn’t want a repeat. She turns her head a bit and gazes at Eris Howe. “Eris, you know the Nighmere region better than most. Take three platoons of EXILE elite and meet up with the remaining soldiers—I want the resistors heads on a platter.” Eris smirks as she gives a quick salute. “Roger that, your highness,” she says as the scene fades. ![]() Scene Two (03:30-30:00) The story flashes back to a scene in the past. A man dressed in a fur cloak and a painted skull mask walks through the forest. In his left hand is over-sized walking stick; in his right arm is a small baby, also bundled up in fur outfit. The man moves swiftly but cautiously. Every couple of moments, he glances over his shoulder to see if anyone is following him. As the man and baby near the edge of the forest, they pause. The man quickly makes a hand gesture while reciting some words. When he is finished, steps over the forest’s threshold. Before him is the entrance to a massive village. He smiles and cocks his head towards the baby. “Well child, it looks like we’ve arrived.” The scene cuts to about twelve years later. The child is no longer small. She sits on a wooden stool in a medium sized yurt; to her right sits the man who brought her to the massive village long ago. His attire is similar, although the cloak is new, and the mask sits atop his head instead of covering his face. He hands her a small leatherbound book and tell her to flip to page twenty. The child does as she is told. “You are adept at healing; well done. However, a competent shaman must specialize in more than just healing and herbs.” He points to a particular passage on the page. “You shall to a simple summoning. Center yourself, focus your mind, listen to the spirits of the decease animals, and call one fourth. Perhaps a small one, such as a frog.” The young child nods and then glances at the passage. “Focus your mind, say the words ‘Ele Ele Ala,’ and hold your index and middle fingers forth to manifest...okay.” She closes her eyes and tries to focus. “Ele Ele Ala!” As she holds her fingers out, a small cloud of smoke appears. Her eyes light up. “I think I did it!” However, no frog or any other animal appears after the smoke clears. Instead, there is a small pile of soot. Her demeanor drops. The shaman places a hand on her shoulder. “It is fine, child. It is your first try. You’re get it, in time.” There’s a small montage of the girl performing various exercises, practices, and rituals. In one scene, she finally is able to call worth an animal. However, she fails all of the other exercises. At the end of the montage the camera cuts to the shaman. He can’t do anything but shake his head. He comments that she never seen anyone like her. He then says that they shall work on refining her healing then, since that is her strength. The scene fades out. When it reopens, it is six years later. The young woman is lying in an empty yurt of her very own. Her is wrapped up in a fur blanket, trying to catch a bit of shut-eye. However, sleep is eluding her, as she keep tossing and turning. After a bit more tossing, she reaches over and grabs a bundle of herbs. She takes out three green leaves out of the bundle and puts them in her mouth. After chewing and swallowing them, she is able to drift off to dreamland. In her dream, Winter has had its way with the land. The landscape is blinding white, and the winds are bitter and brutal. Fortunately, the young woman has found refuge in a tiny cave. She is tightly wrapped up in multiple furs as a large fire burns in front of her. She lowers her head, reaches down, and grabs a bit of deer jerky. When she lifts her head, two figures are sitting in front of her—a man and a woman. Both are dressed in heavy traveling clothes. “My my, have a look you,” the man says as he smiles widely. The young woman instinctively reaches her her knife, which is resting on her right-hand side. The man quickly raises his right hand. “Calm yourself, my child. My name is Luca Vasile; this is my wife, Summer Vasile. She and I mean you no warm. We merely wish to talk.” The woman nods her head. “Yes yes, just a small chat.” The young woman lowers her weapon. The man and woman begin to talk and chat with her. They reveal to her stories. Triumphant stories of battle, humor stories of travel, the romantic story of how they got married. The young woman doesn’t speak very much; however, she does listen to every word. “Believe it or not, we even had a child,” Summer says with a small laugh. “She has grown to be a lovely, beautiful woman.” “Where is she?” the young woman asks. The couple is silent for a moment. They beat around the bush a bit before Luca asks her name. She tell him her she’s never really had a proper name. Her caretaker, a shaman, has always referred to her as “child.” Luca nods his head. He then looks over at his wife. Her eyes are soft, assuring. He nods again and then looks directly at the young woman. “My daughter...is sitting right in front of me.” He pauses. “You are our dearest daughter. And your name is Essence Vasile.” The young woman is taken aback; and the couple picks up on this. Luca nods his head and then gives her a specific instruction. “Just outside the South-Western portion of Nighmere region, there is a small village…” “Or, the remains of one,” Summer clarifies. “Correct, thank you Summer.” He nods. “The village was pillaged about eighteen years ago or so. It’s remains were never cleaned, never sorted. When you awaken from your slumber, journey there. It should take you about a day and a half walk there and back. In the center of the village is a large pile of rubble. If you walk along right-hand side, you’ll see the handle of a sword sticking out. That sword belongs to me. Retrieve it, and know that we are telling you the truth—” —When Essence awakens, she is back in her yurt; however, it is the next morning. When the sun is up, she walks next door and speaks with the shaman. She informs him of the dream she had, and he lets her know that she received a vision from the spirits. A large smile comes to his face. He tells her that she must go on this vision quest; it is vital to her growth. After obtaining his blessing, Essence packs a small rucksack full of herbs, jerky, materials for making a fire, and some water. She also takes a small blade with her, just in case. With that, she heads out in search of the village. To her surprise, everything that Luca told her was correct. Reaching the village took about a day’s walk, the village was in the correct spot, and it was still in ruins. As she made her ways towards the center of the town, she noticed the structure Luca had informed her about. Stones and boulders had been lumped and tossed together, creating a pillar. Bones, ornaments, and other remnants of the former living stuck out of the pile. She should have been frightful, or at least shaken up a bit. However, she is not. She remains calm and collected as she walks to the right-hand side of the pile. As she had been told, there is a sword handle sticking out of the pile. Slowly, she grabs ahold of it. After using a bit of force, she is finally able to pry it from the pile. Its blade is broken and shattered, however, it is still heavy. Essence peers down at the blade for a moment or two. She then looks up at the sky; it’s starting to become dark. She swiftly remembers a small clearing in the forest that would make a decent cam ground. With a bit of struggle, she lifts the broken sword on her shoulder and begins to walk back the way she came. Scene Three (30:01-40:05) The story picks back up in present day. Essence is slowly tracking down an unpaved road. A few travelers stare at her as she walks. It should annoy her, but it does not; she quite aware of her appearance. A white sleeveless top, black pants, black boots, a rucksack, and broken sword strapped to her back. She knew she looked like a looter or vagabond. To counter balance things, she did her best to smile and greet each person that passed her. That seemed to put them at ease. After walking for another hour or so, she notices that hasn’t ran across anyone for a bit. It’s odd, especially since the path was a main roadway—Something was off. Essence stopped in her tracks as she came to a small clear; some nearby leaves and bushes were rustling. A moment or two later, five men materialize and surround her on all side. In front of her stands a dude in red bandana. He smirks as she steps towards her. “Are you new around her, sweet cheeks?” His boys snicker a bit. “I don’t think me and my crew have seen you around these parts before.” Essence doesn’t answer. “Not much of a talker hmm? Well, that’s fine. All you’ve got to do is listen.” The leader puffs out his chest. “We are the Le-Way Bandits. We run this town. Everyone coming and going from this village has got to pay us some tribute; that’s the rule. And, well, since you’re new, you’ve got back tribute to pay.” He nods. “So, I’m going to need you to hand over everything that you’ve got—now.” “Move,” Essence says in a low, but stern tone. This causes the leader to laugh out loud. “Geez, I was hoping this would be easy. I’d hate to cut up a pretty face like yours. But…” He flicks his wrist; a blade appears. Her eyes move from his face to the blade. She expelled a bit of air. Essence shakes her head lightly as she jimmies the rucksack off of her left shoulder and drops it to the ground. “Come and take it,” she says. “See, I knew you’d see things my way.” The leader takes a step forward to retrieve the bag. However, pays no attention to Essence. She takes good step forward and blasts him with a massive headbutt to the face. The leader tenses up; Essence lifts her boots and swiftly kicks the blade out of his hands. “Get her!” He shouts. Essence pulls her sword off of her shoulder and grips it with two hands. In the blink of an eye, she slams the flat side of the blade into an attacker on her right-hand side; the impact breaks his nose (and the rest of his of his face). Blood begins to pour like a fountain as the man quickly hits the ground. For good measure, Essence steps on the back of his skull. The attacker on her left lunges forward—however, he misses. He spins and attempts to pull his arm back...but he spots it lying on the ground by his feet. As his brain begins to process what has happened, the sharpened end of the Essence’s broken sword is driven into his mouth. He falls to the ground, lifeless. Essence quickly spins and slices at the the fourth attacker, who was frozen from what he’d just witnessed—his head goes flying. The fifth attacker gets a stiff kick to the balls; he feels something rupture as he falls to his knees. However, his head goes rolling soon enough. Afterwards, Essence turns towards the leader, who is cowering on his knees. “No please, please don’t kill me,” he begs. “Me and my crew were only joking. We, we don’t want your items. Please, just spare m—” He stops talking. His left eye peers down at the ground—half of his face is laying there. He glances up at Essence. It looks as if he wants to say something, but he isn’t physically able to. Slowly, his body falls forward. A large pool of blood begins to leak out of the side of his head. In the midst of battle, Essence didn’t break a sweat. She also didn’t notice that a crowd of villagers had appeared and watched the event. She looks down at the carnage of the battle field, then glances up at the crowd. For a moment, an awkward silence persists for a until one lone villager shouts out, “The gods have finally sent a HERO!” The villagers begin to cheer and shout as the scene fades out. Scene Three (40:06-43:14) The scene opens up. Three weeks time has passed since the previous scene. After defeating the Le-Way Bandits, the village elders asked Essence to stick around for a little bit. They gave her room and board, and in exchange she helped out and around the village and continued to clear the nearby land of rogue bandits and ruffians. On one particular nights, Essence and the elders had a special meeting. During the course of the meeting, one of the elders speaks up. “My children, there have been many rumors floating around Nighmere over the past few months. A while back, a visitor informed us a ‘wandering traveler’ that has been roaming around. They say she’s been helping out villagers, fighting military personnel, etc. You are that woman, yes?” Essence nods her head in affirmation. She then tells them that she must depart soon; she let’s them know that it’s not safe for her to stay in the village for a long period of time, because it is a danger to the village as a whole. Scene Four (43:15-45:16) That same evening, Eris can be seen lying in the bushes just outside of the village. Through binoculars, she spots Essence walking out of the hut occupied by the elders’ hut. Her massive sword drags behind her. A huge smirk comes her face as she taps on a metallic fixture in her ear. “Jasper, this is Eris...over.” A moment later Jasper responds. “I’ve spotted the target. She’s taken refuge in the Palo village; it’s a tiny little shit-hole.” Jasper asks a question. “Yeah, she is carrying a large broken sword, just like your reports have stated.” She listens as Jasper talks a bit. “I’m not sure when she’ll be leaving. She’s a wanderer, after all; she’s liable to move out at any time.” Eris pauses to listen. “Yeah yeah—inform the Highness that I’ll be engaging her in the morning.” She taps her the device to end the transmission. Eris sets the binoculars on the grass next to her. “Cabo small dog transformation. I need something small to carry back to the camp.” As she says that, the binoculars shift into a small Yorkie-looking dog. Scene Five (45:17-60:30) As the run rise, Essence walks towards the edge of the village. She knows that she must leave, in order to try and protect the village from further attack. As she reaches the end of the village, she is greeted by the seven village elders. Each of them gives her a hug, a kiss, and hand her a small bag. She places the gifts in her rucksack, and then bows to them. She asks that they remain safe; they tell her to do the same. With that, she begins to head out. After about thirty minutes of walk, our heroine wanders across a small clearing. It looks like the perfect resting spot; therefore, Essence takes a seat on a patch of grass. She sets her rucksack down and starts to dig through it to find some bread. However, off in the distance, she hears a particular sound. She can’t put her finger on the sound itself, but she assumes that it can’t be good. Foregoing the bread, she stands to her feet, and places the flat side of her sword across her shoulder blade. She squints her eyes and peers off down the down, where the sound is coming from. Whatever is making the sound is fastly approaching, as evidenced by the huge cloud of dust that’s trailing it. “Hmm,” Essence says. As the thing approached, it becomes clear what its is—a massive mechanical horse. The horse comes to a stop maybe five hundred meters away from Essence. A woman swiftly hops off the horse. She caresses it’s neck as she smiles. “Nice job, Cabo,” she says. “Settle down and take a break. I’ll handle things from here.” The horses lets out a grunt, which causes the woman to smile even more. “Hey hey, I’ll let you get some licks in. Just relax a bit, alright?” She folds her arms and walks couple of paces towards Essence, analyzing her all the while. When she gets within three hundred meters, she stops. “So, YOU are the one everyone has been talking about, huh?” the woman asks. Essence doesn’t respond, she just stares. “All the little rag-tag villagers have been talking about you, you know? They are in trouble, they are in need. And then here you come—their White Knight. Their glorious savior. Ha, I bet you get a kick out off being called that, huh?” Once again, Essence doesn’t respond. “Oh, I see. You’re the brooding, stoic type.” She smirks. “I got you. You don’t have to talk; all you’ve got to do is listen.” She nods. “You’ve been stirring up a lot of shit with your actions. Inspiring hope, killing military soldiers, short exchanging the government of supplies. Empress Celeste doesn’t take kindly to all that. Therefore…” Another wicked smirk appears. “You have been sentenced to death—and I shall be your executioner. “Now, I would ask if you’ve got any last words, but you’ve swallowed your tongue. Plus, it doesn’t really matter what you’ve got to say—your head is going to end up on a stake.” Her hand quick moves towards the hilt of her sword. “However, at least grace me with your name; it’s so unsatisfying killing some nameless wench.” “Essence…” “Essence? What a beautiful name. It’s a pity it was wasted on you.” She unsheathes her sword. “I’m Eris Howe, leader of the 51th Legion.” The 51th Legion—the statement caused Essence’s face to contort a bit. Her eyes become fiery. Eris notices this. “Ohhhh, you know who I am, don’t you? You probably know that I was instrumental in demolishing the Nighmere region, don’t you?” She snicker. “Oh, well this is fitting, isn’t it?” Essence lets her sword’s blade hit the ground. She then grips it’s handle with both hands and gets into a stance. “Ohh, someone is fired up now? Hmm?” Eris gets into a stance of her own as she extends her sword and places her left arm behind her back. “Well, lets get to it, shall we?” The duo stands unmoving for a few moments. However, Essence isn’t able to hold her peace. In a flash she charges in, looking to strike. As she approaches, Eris doesn’t move a muscle; she simply watches the young girl’s movement. When she is in range, Essence lifts her sword and swings with intent to kill—but her target vanishes before her eyes. Before she can react, she feels a blade deliver a slash to her chest, her right shoulder, and her left shoulder. Essence quickly takes a step back. The slashes sting, but they aren’t particularly painful. As she lifts her head, she spots Eris, who is back in front of her. “Oh dear, you’ve got to be faster than that,” she says with a small laugh. “I bet you didn’t even see me move, did you?” She shakes her head mildly. “Sure, I’m going to slay you. But, you could at least make this fun.” In the blink of an eye, Eris lunges forward and slashes Essence five more times in various spots. Each cut brought a new sting. Singularly, the stinging was bearable. Collectively was a different matter although. Those cuts began to throb and ache. Essence’s breathing began to get heavier. “Do you know what’s happening right now?” Eris asks. “Right now, your cells are screaming out, ‘how the fuck did we get into this situation?’ So, the pain you are feeling now will intensify even more. Then, your body will go into shock. You’re be paralyzed—and that’s when I’ll decapitate you.” Having heard enough, Essence charges in at blazing speed. She begins to delivers short swings. Eris matches her speed and blocks the attacks with her own blade. After thirty seconds of non-stop battle, the two break apart. “Now that’s the fire I was looking for. Look at you putting up a fight.” Eris snickers. “Although, I’m surprised YOU were the warrior that took out all our military forces. Looks like we need to send those boys back to training.” Once again, Essence is the aggressor as she rushes in; Eris effortlessly blocks the blow and strikes. In the midst of the battle, Eris lets out a large yawn. Essence continues the attack until she is forced to break away and catch her breath. However, Eris charges in for the first time. She delivers a rapid flurry of slashes. Essence lifts her sword to block them, but a fair amount slip through her guard. When she is satisfied, Eris hops backwards. “You’re feeling the burn now, aren’t you?” Eris looks on. “But as they say, no rest for the wicked, or the righteous for that matter.” She snaps her fingers twice. “Cabo, lion transformation.” The mechanical horse quickly morphs into a mechanical lion. It rushes from its position and stands next to Eris, ready to pounce. Eris caresses the top of its head. “See Cabo, I told you I’d let you get some action. Go on and give her a try. But, I’ll warn you, she’s weak; she won’t be the challenge you want.” She pauses for a second. “Rough her up a bit, but I’m taking the kill.” Cabo lets out a mild roar. He then takes a few steps towards Essence, stalking her a bit. “Shit,” Essence said to herself. “How am I going to handle this?” Before she can even think, Cabo is nearly on top of her. He slashes out with his right paw, but Essence grabs ahold to her blade and blocks the blow. However, Cabo swipes at her leg with his left paw. His claws make a decent sized gash in right leg. Essence drops to a knee. “Shit, shit, shit!” Cabo charges in once more. He opens his jaw wildly. Once more, Essence lifts her sword. He chomps down on the blade of the sword. The two tussle for a moment with Cabo gaining the advantage. However, Essence thinks on her feet as she pops her hips and manually rotates the blade of her sword. Cabo loses its footing, which allows Essence to slam it down to the ground. She pops her hips in the other direction; Cabo releases the blade and is sent flying. Essence backs up and her paces and rests along the base of a large tree. Off in the distance, she spots Cabo struggling to its feet. “Keep your cool,” she says to herself as she prepares for the next onslaught. Cabo roars and then charges in a break-neck speed. “Five hundred meters,” she said in her head. Essence stays focused on his every moment; with each footstep, she grip tightens on her sword-handle. “Two hundred meters.” As he approaches, Cabo opens his mechanical mouth and let out another warning roar. “One hundred meters.” At around eighty meters, Cabo leaps into the air and sails towards her. When he is a couple of arms lengths away, Essence tosses herself to right and hits the ground. Cabo sees, her move of the way, but cannot do anything slow down. It rams headfirst into the base of the tree, denting, crushing, and concaving a great deal of its metal. Essence springs to her feet. She charges and raises her sword up, looking to decapitate the mechanical being. “Agh!” she shouts as she strikes. But, her blade is blocked by Eris’. “Tag,” Eris says with a smirk. The two then begin to hack and slash at each other. Essence uses forces blows; Eris employs precise jabs. However, nearly all of the strikes are blocked by one another. In the midst of battle, Eris gets her knee kicked out. Essence swings her sword with a mighty finishing blow. However, her blade is stopped once again. This time, Eris uses the base of her left forearm to absorb and negate the blow. She then recovers and the two break apart. “What’s the matter?” Eris asks with a smile. “You looked like you’ve spotted a ghost.” She shakes her head. “OH, you thought you’d just won a moment ago, didn’t you? But, you didn’t know about my Exo Chain-Mail.” She pats left forearm. “This shit is amazing, I tell you. Lightweight, protective, fits like a glove. The world would lose its natural mind if this stuff was released to commoners.” Eris takes in a couple of deep breaths as her brain quickly acessess the situation. Something in her mind clicks. “You know, perhaps I had you pegs incorrectly. I thought I was going to be boring. I figured Cabo would toy with you for about three minutes, and then I’d finish the dirty work. Instead, you decided to level up in the middle of the battle and actually give me a fight. That means something to me. “And show, I’m going to give you a bit of a gift.” Eris nods. “It’s a move that I’ve perfected throughout the course of my military career. I’ve only had the honor of using it three times in battle.” Eris gets into a particular stance. “Any last words before you die?” Eris asks. “...Fuck you.” Essence replies. “Such sass. I like that. Tis a shame that you’re about to meet your end.” Eris closes her eyes for a moment and centers herself. She then rushes in a blazing speed. As she closes in on her target, she lets out a mighty roar of her own. “Dance of Seven-Thousand Cuts!” As Eris was making her attack, Essence had gotten into a stance as well. The moment Eris lunges forward to deliver her seven thousand slashes, Essence lifts her sword and swiftly spins counter-clockwise. “Chaotic Sonata!” The move creates a tornado-like effect; dust kicks up and fills the air for a moment. Essence is standing tall virtually unscathed when the dust settles, albeit breathing heavily. As she steps back a pace or two, Eris simply glares at her. She’s also breathing at a rapid pace. “Well, aren’t you full of surprises.” Before she can say another word, Essence is rushing towards. In one quick motion, Essence delivers a heavy horizontal slash. Being out of position, Eris is unable to get her sword up to block; instead, raises up her forearms to block the block blow. “Come on now sweetie, we’ve gone over this before. You know, amazing armor and jun—” Eris looks at her forearms; blood is spurting forth. Her eyes glance to ground; her severed appendages are laying there. “H...how?” Essence’s follow-through forces her blade to hit the ground. She quickly flips the bladed edge and swings upward. —Eris’ head is sent roaring. It lands a six feet away; a pool of blood begins to form around it’s neck. Her decapitated body slumps and hits the ground. Essence breathes deeply as she stares at her fallen opponent. However, her ears perk up as she hears something behind her. She flips her blade, tightens her grip, spins, and slashes. The slash tears through a lunging Cabo’s right side. Metal chunks far to the ground into a large heap. After another couple of breath’s, Essence’s body begins to relax as the adrenaline fades a bit. She begins to feel all the aches, pains, and cuts that cover her body. She glances down at her clothes; it’s ripped and tattered. She uses her shirt to wipe her forehead. “If she was one of the EXILE leaders, then that means she’s in charge of a squadron or something,” she said out loud. “Eris came by herself, so her troops must be nearby.” Essence walks over to her rucksack and opens it up. She grabs ahold of a canteen of water. “This is going to be a pain,” she said before taking a sip. “Hmm, let’s get it done.” Essence hoists her sword on her shoulder and begins to press forward.
