“We must not lose our relationship with God. Without that relationship we will never recognize what blessings he has in store for us.” The voice of the High Priest kept playing over in my mind as I walked through the streets of New York with the rain pouring down on me. I’d have walked faster if I cared, but I just felt drained. Jayden… the Wiccan… the voices, it was all too much for me. I was so happy to be away from Mexico and that house. Something was obviously wrong. I was sad in ways I had never been before. How do you counter attack an enemy you’ve never known? It wasn’t possible.

My rain boots splashed the water beneath my feet until finally, I had reached the subway station. Ascending into the darkness and avoiding contact with anyone in my path, I made my way through the station and onto the platform. It was a thirty-five minute wait before the next train arrived. What to do for thirty-five minutes?

I turn up the music. “…MY SALVATION!...” The familiar rasp screams into my ears, forcing me to rip the ear buds from my ears. What in the hell was happening? The Couple at the far end of the platform stop making out to glance over at me. “There was a bug.” I explain in an attempt not to look crazy. The Couple giggles before falling into another lip lock as I reach down to pick up the ear buds. The wiring leaving the ground and I hear the voice again, calmer and more faintly this time. “…My, sacrifice…” The voice came from the tunnel and I curiously jump from the platform ignoring the gasps of the few pedestrians awaiting the arrival of the train.

“…My, salvation…my, sacrifice.” The voice says again from deep within the shadows. My foot steps move me closer to the darkness and all I wanted to do was retreat. As badly as I wanted to turn away, I couldn’t. I wouldn’t. This dark force had me at hello and there was no turning back now. I hear the faint cries and shouts of the pedestrians but it’s all too faint to make out their words. I look back but continue to walk forward. Everyone runs toward the platform and I have no idea why. I couldn’t see what was in front of me but I continued to be pulled forward by this force. Left foot… right foot… the feet moved and the body follows. I felt the warm breath of a human being, but when I reached out to touch it there was only thin air. “…My sacrifice…” The raspy voice says.

“My…sal…vation.” The words are finished and the entity spins me around and I find myself in the center of the tracks with the pedestrians on the platform all of them shouting at me. The dark energy was gone. My glance gazes just past the crowd of screaming pedestrians and I notice the clocks speeding up and the minutes dropping by the second. Were the clocks broken? I catch the faint cry of a little girl, “THE TRAIN!” she shouts.

I look down the tunnel and a large light comes screaming at me. I close my eyes….

“AAGGHHHHH!!!!!" I jolt awake from my sleep and I am quickly blinded by the lights turning on in my room. “What’s wrong?! Are you okay?!” J.J. asks with fear and confusion.

Using my hand and forearm to shield my eyes and focus on J.J. in the doorway, “Yeah, it was just a bad dream.” I gave her assurance that everything was alright. “Can you get me a glass of water?”

J.J. leaves the room and I exhale. My body trembles as I lay there looking up at the ceiling fan. The thumps of my heart rate slow and that’s when I heard the voice again, “…My sacrifice…my salvation…”.
