Brylee came walking into her parents place with a smile on her face as she stood in front of her father, Manolo, who was seated at the kitchen table drinking his morning coffee, and reading the newspaper. She stood there for a moment excitedly, just waiting for him to acknowledge her. A question about how she was doing, wishing her good morning, a simple hi, anything. But, when it didn't come, she couldn't help but blurt, "I want to become a wrestler." As soon as the words left her smiling mouth, Manolo glared up from his newspaper, holding his coffee in mid air as he was about to take a sip. His look was one of nothing but anger.

Slowly he sat down his coffee cup, then folded up his newspaper thoughtfully as he began to set that down as well. "Brylee-" he managed to get out before he was interrupted.

"Now before you say anything, just hear me out." she went to go sit at the other end of the table, but then she remembered how intimidating her father looked from down there. He seemed bigger, more in control. So she decided to sit close, and adjacent from him.

Sighing heavily, she begins to explain her apiphany, "Dad, you and Joseph have a great relationship, and it isn't because he is married to your daughter... so you HAVE to get along with him. It's more than that. You guys relate on so many different levels. Even more so since him and Onyx have started a family of their own. I want that kind of relationship with Onyx."

Manolo nods his head as he sets his hands on the table, folding them together, "Honey, you and Onyx have a lot in common too. You don't need to become a wrestler to be closer to your sister. Things are just different right now. She doesn't have a lot of time on her hands, and you guys are just in different stages of life. When Enzo gets older, she will be able to do more things with you. You just have to be patient."

Shaking her head, Brylee could help but gaze up and away from her father. Feeling as though he wasn't understanding where she was coming from.

"You don't understand." she began calmly, trying not to get to worked up with undeniable rejection.

"All me and Onyx have are Friday Night Ghost Adventures. We don't relate on anything else. We don't hang out together, we don't talk to each other. Not like we used to. Not like the first time we found out we had each other." Tears began to fill Brylee's eyes as she looked up, tucking her lips in an attempt to control her emotions, "You even relate to her better than I do," she says looking back into her father's eyes. "I just want to feel like I am part of the family again, and I think me becoming a wrestler will help that."

"You becoming a wrestler isn't going to change anything, Brylee." her father commented as his growing annoyance rang in his voice, "I don't even know why you're coming to me with this. You're an adult, you can make you're own decisions."

"I know, but, I still live under your roof, and I want to know that I have your approval, and support, because it's important to me."

Manolo knew he had to get this idea out of his daughter's head, whether she liked it or not. The best way he knew how to do that was to be honest, and to show some tough love while he put things in perspective for her. If she wanted to still be treated like a child then he was going to treat her like one.

"Your mother wouldn't agree to this. I'm not agreeing to it. You could get hurt. Injured beyond repair, and then what? You were a great nurse, Brylee. Probably still are, but you can't go back, because with every person you lose on your watch, you will feel like a failure. That's why you haven't been back, isn't it? How do you think wrestling is going to go?"

With the way Brylee looked at her father after his tirade, he couldn’t help but feel the need to reign himself in.

"You have a good thing going for you right now. You're great at being Brandon's assistant. You know what he wants before he does. You know how hard that is for someone to accomplish with another person? I still struggle with knowing what your mom wants half the time. You're getting paid good, you have great insurance, security... What do you think wrestling is going to do to that?"

This caused Brylee to shrink down in her chair as her gaze fell as well.

"It's not going to do anything, since... I already told Brandon that I'm stepping down."

Manolo couldn't help but stifle a laugh as he leaned back in his chair, his hands sliding down the table as he did so realizing this is probably the first time he has ever really felt disappointment towards his daughter.

"You threw your security blanket out the window? Wow, Brylee that's smart." his voice was filled with sarcasm, "Let's say you go through with... Lets say I LET you go through with this. What if you fail? What if you can't deal with it? Then what? Then where will you go?"

"I can go back to nursing." She said with a smile. Like it wouldn't be a big deal, but it didn't take too long before her father made her smile disappear.

"You haven't been back to nursing in years. We've been waiting for you to get your shit together and go back but, the fact of the matter is, it isn't going to happen. Because you can't handle it."

"Well Brandon-"

"That ain't going to fly," he interrupted, "You know why people say they are stepping down, Brylee? Because they can't handle what they are doing anymore. Brandon is probably wondering why you couldn't handle being his assistant. Maybe he was too hard you, or maybe he expected too much. He's probably on a mission right now showing people he don't need an assistant. He can do everything himself. Tea? He can brew it like the ancient Chinese. He has become a tea brewing master. With or without you, he is getting things done. The hospital is still helping people with or without you. And that's more than I can say about you."

"Dad-"

Manolo raised his hand to silence her.

"You can't depend on people to continually give you handouts. That nursing job you were promised when you got yourself together isn't there anymore. So you know what that means?" When Brylee didn't answer, Manolo slammed his fist on the table causing her to jump in her seat and look at him, "The money me and your mom spent on your college. On your future. Was for nothing. Our sacrifices we made for you, were for nothing. Us letting you stay here until you get back on your feet, was a mistake, because it's obvious you don't want to."

Closing his eyes, Manolo rested his hand over his eyes as he let out a relaxing sigh to try and calm himself down before he continued.

"Brylee, if this is something you really want, you have to convince me." he said simply with a shrug, "You have to convince me that wrestling will be different, or I will not approve of it, and I will not support you."

Brylee sat their quiety while her father patiently waited for her reply, but a reply didn’t come. He was right. About everything. She was a fuck up, and there wasn't an excuse for it. When she wanted to be a nurse, she pushed herself. Got straight 'A's all through college, and knew what to expect once she got into the field but, nothing can really prepare you for death, and how to deal with it when you are supposed to have all the answers.

Sighing, Brylee couldn't help but shake her head. Knowing that there was no way she could convince her father to let her do this. All she could do at this point was plead, and hope for the best.

"Dad, I can't guarantee you anything. I don't know if I will succeed or fail. Just like with nursing. All I knew is that I wanted to help people, and because of you, and mom giving me that opportunity, I found out that I could. Not only did I find out that I could but, I also found out that I was good at it."

Thinking for a moment, Brylee leaned over the table, folding her arms out infront of her before she began to speak softly.

"You have to understand something. You can be taught everything but, nothing will prepare you better than real life experience. I thought I could handle someone dying but, I couldn't. I can't. Especially when it is under my watch." Brylee couldn't help but think about Mr. Evans , and how his simple check up turned into a funeral. "Even though I did everything right, everything I could, the guilt is still there. It's my fault. Nothing will ever change that feeling. "

It may have not been some great speech but, at least she was being honest.

"I won't know if I will be any good at wrestling or even like it. All I know is that I want to be closer to my family, and if is the way I can do that? Then I want to try. Can't I be allowed that?"

Thinking it over, Manolo nodded his head, already regretting his decision but, what kind of father would he be if he didn't allow her to try.

"Why didn't you just ask Onyx, Joseph, or Brandon for help?"

It wasn't a question he wanted answered but, Brylee answered anyway. In a way that made it seem like the answer was, should have been obvious.

"Ah... Onyx and Joseph just had a baby. So they're busy. Brandon has enough on his plate. And... OH, that's right. I want it to be a surprise."

Manolo responded to his daughter unamused, after he took a deep breath.

"It will take some convincing but, I know a guy who can help you." He could tell she started to get excited as she brought her hands together as though she was pray, and he knew he had to calm her down before the continous thank yous came falling out of her mouth, "However, you are going to have to find a better reason to wrestle, and you can't tell your mother. If you tell your mother, she will kill me. Literally"

This caused Brylee to look at her father in confusion.

"Why would mom be mad?" she couldn't help but ask, "She wasn't mad when Onyx wrestled, and she didn't say anything about Joseph wrestling."

She watched her father carefully trying to get a read on him as he stood slowly from his chair, before walking over to her. He placed both his hands on her shoulders, and looked into her eyes before placing a kiss on her forehead.

"It's different with you. Maybe one day, she can explain it to you."
