Tiffany Jay is seen sitting down in a nice comfy chair. Sitting across from her is one of Subversion’s newest talents Brian Stryker. He’s drumming on the chair waiting for things to get started for this interview. TIFFANY JAY: Hello everyone watching this on HKW.Com . I’m Subversion’s Tiffany Jay and I am here with Brian Stryker, drafted to Subversion at 14th overall this past HKW draft. Brian thank you for doing this. BRIAN STRYKER: Hey, my pleasure. Always happy to do this. TIFFANY JAY: Let’s start with the draft itself. Selected 14th. What does that mean to you as far as how you are appreciated by these GMs? BRIAN STRYKER: It means a lot. I don’t know if you know this, I’m not the most well liked wrestler out there. A lot of people think I’m over hyped or just plain suck. So to go that early in the draft, well it helps validate all I have done the past 2 years in HKW. I mean to go from a guy who people mocked and laughed at, to be the contender that I am, it took a lot of grit and hard work, and going 14th well that’s just icing. TIFFANY JAY: How does it feel to switch brands? You were becoming one of the backbones of Defiance in a way and to suddenly trade the red for blue. What were your thoughts on that? BRIAN STRYKER: It was a bit of a shock, not gonna lie. I was part of Defiance since I first set foot in this company. That being said, I welcome the change of scenery. In this business, it’s all about setting yourself. Whether that’s from the start, or in my case slowly building your niche, that being one of the toughest son of a bitches in this business. Now the downside for that is you start getting every fucker who wrestled a hardcore match coming for you thinking they can stop you. I can’t tell you how many people have said they were gonna kill me one way or another. Jimmy Page said he was, failed. Brandon Banks said he was, failed. Nicole Hamilton, failed. Alex Reyn, failed. Now you notice the first two I did lose to. But I got right back up from those and kept fighting. What that means as far as going to Subversion, it’s a breath of fresh air. No more idiots trying to ride into town and test Brian Stryker. Now, I’m that outlaw riding into town. I haven’t decided who to set my sights on yet, but you know when I do. TIFFANY JAY: At Destiny 4, you made reference to you being down with the Bloodlust division due to your match against Reyn. What did you mean by that? BRIAN STRYKER: There’s several factors that lead to that moment. First off, what I meant from that is I’m done with the reckless disregard for myself. I’m only 30 years old but I’ve been wrestling since I was 16. Been doing hardcore matches that entire time too. So that’s 14 years of wear and tear that comes from those matches. My knee is practically gone. My back has been an issue since I broke it at 19. I have spilled more blood than I even dare try to calculate. Point is, I’m not exactly 100%. I have a family to care for and I can’t do that if I end up unable to move. I don’t want to be unable to stand with my son during all those moments in his life. The second factor was that match against Reyn. I lost myself there. I let myself go deep into the darkest parts of my mind and just let this monster out. The outcome….was well that horror show. My wife never liked me in these hardcore matches, but that was different. The fear in their eyes for me. Was…well not much in this world leaves a lasting impression on me as far as hurting me….but that will. I decided that night that I wasn’t gonna let myself lose it like that ever again. No bloodlust, no monster. Which is where the welcome change to Subversion comes in. In rehab they teach you remove yourself from the environment that leads to your issues. That’s what this is. Those cats in the division can go crazy and relax cause I’m not letting myself get roped into that stuff again. TIFFANY JAY: You look at the title scene here on Subversion and there are a lot of talented wrestlers holding gold. Does that intimidate you in anyway? BRIAN STRYKER: No it doesn’t. And that isn’t chest beating “I can beat anyone” type of stuff either. I never really feared wrestling anyone. Cause all it takes is one night and anyone can lose. Whether it’s Kol, Lady M, The Mario Bros, Nina Stokes, whoever, anyone can beat anyone. Do I think I can beat any of them? Yeah I do. Will I? Well the only way to find out is get that shot at the gold. Once I do and I get that opportunity to fight for that championship, whatever one it is, I’m gonna fight my damn heart out. It’s what the fans deserve and it’s what the GM’s expect of me. They know my talent, my skills. They know with me on the show, you are gonna see some of the best high flying you ever seen. TIFFANY JAY: Any final thoughts you’d like to share? BRIAN STRYKER: There’s a lot of wrestlers in this business who like to blow hot air. They talk about coming to fight but few are willing to tape the fists up and go at it. I’m not one of those. When I say we’re gonna fight, bring a lunch cause it’s an all day job. I don’t back down. I don’t coward. I don’t get intimidated by big bad wolves. Subversion is gonna be my proving ground and I start it now. TIFFANY JAY: Well those were strong words from Brian Stryker. I am Tiffany Jay, thank you for watching. |
