The following is a video recording taken from an interview by Sport FM on June 18th in St. Petersburg, Russia. The audio is in Russian with English subtitles The camera opens up on a radio studio where a few men are taking. Tyberius King then walks through a door wearing a FC Dynamo Moscow hat, a shirt with Lenin’s face on it from his PROLETARIAT line, and a pair of black shorts. He follows the instructions given to him and sits down in a chair across from the man intended to interview him. Andrei Voronin: Everyone we are happy to tell you that Tyberius King has just entered the studio. For those of you who may not know exactly who Tyberius King is, he is a professional wrestler signed to Hard Knox Wrestling, HELL, and his own promotion SAP Wrestling. Where you may know King is as the owner of the PROLETARIAT clothing line which has a store here in St. Petersburg. He is also a philanthropist and a proud Russian citizen. Mr. King we are happy to have you with us today. Tyberius King: Just call me Ty, no need for the mister. Ty let's out a laugh and shows off a big smile Andrei Voronin: Ok Ty, now you came to the city for the start of the Confederations Cup. Can you tell me about how that came to be and how you enjoyed the experience? Tyberius King: Sure. I got the call a couple of days ago from some people within the city government who were looking for some people to come and do press for the tournament. They asked if I would come and of course I was more than happy to come home for this event. I'm a big football fan. Plus this is a big deal for our country. It is the dress rehearsal for the World Cup. The experience so far has been wonderful. The whole atmosphere before the game was crazy. I even got to talk to some of the players of the New Zealand team who recognized me. I spent a good amount of time in New Zealand during my wrestling career. I still have a home on the beach there. So there was a lot going on emotion wise for me in that game. The feeling when we won though was the best part. All of us being so happy in unison was beautiful. Andrei Voronin: You called Russia home? Is that still an adjustment for you? For those of you who do not know Ty was born in the United States and has dual citizenship. Tyberius King: It's not much of an adjustment at all. Once I got settled here everything just felt right. This is my home now. Andrei Voronin: Do people have any misconceptions about you living in Russia? Tyberius King: Oh yeah there is plenty. Most people assume that I live in one of the big cities. When I tell them that I live closer to Mongolia than Moscow it usually raises some eyebrows. Usually in America when they hear of Siberia they tend to think it's this cold baron ice sheet. So when I explain I live in southeastern Siberia they really want to know if all of the myths about it being frozen year round are true. I have to tell them that it can get warm there in the summer. Mostly they believe in the stereotypes that are portrayed on television. Andrei Voronin: What made you want to live somewhere so remote? Tyberius King: I grew up in the Adirondack Mountains in Upstate New York. Far away from the city. I just wanted a place that just felt right. Plus I don't really like warm weather all that much. I wanted somewhere that stayed cool but reminded me of where I grew up. Being by Lake Baikal just felt right. Andrei Voronin: You do a lot of conservation work for the area too if I remember right? Tyberius King: I do. It is something that is very important to me. Baikal is the oldest lake in the world. Most of the animals and plants found within it are found nowhere else in the world. We need to protect the lake not only for the animals in it it but the animals that depend on it. Andrei Voronin: It is very important work. What have you been doing lately? Tyberius King: I've been preparing for my first match in HKW. I'm very excited for this. It's been due for a while. Andrei Voronin: Is it a high profile match? Tyberius King: You have to look at every match as a high profile match. Cause if you take one lightly then there's a chance you slip up and that can really hurt your chances for things in the future. Andrei Voronin: Does that mean you are not facing a high profile opponent? Tyberius King: It will be his first match in HKW too. The kid I'm facing, June is his name, has little experience in pro wrestling. For him this is a tough encounter. I have achieved a lot. Please don't take that statement as me bragging at all. I've worked hard for what I've earned. None of it came easy. I'm his first match in this company. Very few people think he can win. So for him he’s got nothing to lose. He can lay it all out there. Those are the most dangerous opponents next to the ones with everything to lose. If he beats me, I'm an established name. It would be a great accomplishment. For me it just appears like any match but it isn't. This is important. Andrei Voronin: What makes it so important? Tyberius King: This is essentially my homecoming. As a teenager all I wanted to do was join the roster of Platinum Dynasty Wrestling. I got to achieve that goal but it wasn't long because the company closed. Hard Knox Wrestling became the Phoenix that rose out of PDW’s ashes. It became the successor. I decided that maybe I wasn't ready for that roster yet. So I traveled the world. Won a world title. Then I wound up in SSWA when it was the developmental promotion for HKW. I won their main title and then I really started to question if maybe I was ready for the jump. However I got too caught up in things and put my mask on the line back when I was known as Prince Wadjethotep. After that I lost my spark and I retired. From there I went to RISE, HKW’s current developmental program, and I was the fitness and health coach. I trained some of the people you see on the main roster today. Then I ran into some personal issues and decided to come back to the sport I love. It's been a rough comeback so far. It's even left me at times doubting if I still have it. Then HKW and I started talks. I started to feel a spark when I first went to Mexico for HELL. After the talks were finished and we agreed for me to come on board the spark was a fire. For the first time in a while this feels right. This does feel like I'm coming home, to where I belong. Andrei Voronin: What is the goal? Tyberius King: For the match or overall? Ty lets out a small laugh which draws a smile from Andrei. Andrei Voronin: Both. Tyberius King: Well first I plan to win. Ty lets out another laugh that gets the radio crew to do the same. Then he takes a drink of water and adjusts his hat. Tyberius King: Then the goal is to be what it always was. To become the best in the world. Now I know that sounds ambitious or too much. But I understand it for what it is. To me it means that I have to beat Felicity Banks and take the World championship. A lot of people call her the best in the world. It's hard to argue against against it. However I have learned something. There is no universal best in the world. That title is subjective. I know I'm changing an unobtainable goal. That is fine. Because that means that you're always chasing something. I'll always remain driven to prove to everyone what I am. It keeps me motivated. Andrei Voronin: We all here give you our support and hope you succeed. When can we watch the event and how? Tyberius King: Thank you for your support. It means a lot. The show is on July 2nd, but with the time difference it will likely be the 3rd here. You can watch it from the EVOLVE streaming service now available in Russia for just 550 rubles a month. Andrei Voronin: I know I will be watching and I hope that our listeners do as well. That is all the time we have with Ty today. Again we thank you for coming and good luck! |
