One shot, One Kill, the mentality Jackson Magnum had lived his professional life by since his debut. It was much more than a simple mantra, it was the internal belief that all it would ever take is one shot, and he would be World Champion. The fact that he had never received that shot wasn’t surprising on a number of levels. Jackson was at his core, a daredevil, someone who was quite literally, willing to put his life on the line for the most meaningless match. With that said, could anyone ever blame HKW general managers for never giving him the opportunity? Whether it was while he was on Subversion or Defiance. The man damn near died, trying to keep the Hybrid title, the global or world title would most likely be the death of Jackson Magnum, and everyone within the wrestling world knew it. Hell, Jackson himself knew it, but when you had someone that was so willing to die for what he believed in, that he accepted the consequences of every word he spoke, would you expect anything less? He wanted to, no wanted isn’t a strong enough word. No, Jackson yearned to die in the center of the ring. So much so ,that it was the only thing that gave him a semblance of peace. But in this moment that wasn’t even enough to stop him. The nine millimeter that rest in his left hand was far more tantalizing than the thought of waiting for someone who was actually good enough to come along and finish him off. He had been waiting, patiently for that moment for so long, but he had grown tired of waiting. In earnest, it only increased his sorrow and grief at this moment. He had thought about everything that had happened that night, his one chance to prove that he was worthy of the world championship, A world championship even. And literally having a moment where he had thought it had finally come to pass, only for it to slip into the abyss. It was almost as poetic as it was heartbreaking. His entire story had become a Sanskrit tragedy of sorts. Urubhangam or Mahabharata come to mind, Narrated in a language very few could decipher and even fewer could grasp. Jackson’s story much like theirs would in the end be destined to have a finale, long forgotten in the annals of time. Eclipsed by other less compelling, and easier to follow. The time was upon him however to bring this story to an abrupt end. It was nearing his twenty-fifth birthday, a moment he himself never planned on experiencing. He paused before lifting the gun towards his head. A momentary pause, as he lets the gun fall to his side once more. Thinking back he tries to remember the moment it all went wrong. Looking down at the gun one last time he smiled. Reaching up with his right hand he flicked the switch. Through the darkness a final phrase was spoken…. “One shot, One Kill.” BANG…. |
