I didn't mind the GPA joke, but the #, just no, I fucking HATE twitter.

The swag wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't used like that. For example, my schools Nation Honor's Society shirts have "Nerds Have Swag" on it and I find it kind of amusing.

Yeah I dont have a problem with the GPA joke, it was just the # and use of swag that I thought was really stupid. And idk, i guess I've just seen really stupid instances of "swag" throughout the internet and it just gets on my nerves now haha

I hate twitter too though. I've realized that each "social network" represents a wannabe version of different professions.

MySpace: wannabe musicians. This is probably the most legitimate one since record companies actually check(ed) MySpace for up and coming singers and bands. but still, I doubt its all good.

Facebook: wannabe photographers. The "photo album" feature is great for sharing and organizing pictures, which leads to a ton of people using it to advertise their "photography business". I have quite a few friends that do this, and thats not even including all the people who just abuse instagram.

Twitter: wannave comedians. Its just a bunch of people cracking jokes at pop culture and current events. Seriously. Even famous people do it, and teenagers just think theyre the funniest thing ever, all the while keeping a cool, sarcastic attitude. Im not saying what they say isn't funny, it can be sometimes. But it's stupid that some people think of themselves as comedians just cuz they crack jokes on twitter.

im by no means a social network-er, I actually dont like it at all. The only reason I have a Facebook is because my friends forced me to so that they could contact me more easily -.-

Yeah, I never used any social network, I honestly just never saw the appeal. I could care less about what some of my old classmates/coworkers are up to - if I did, I'd have their number.

Twitter is alright though. Rob Delaney is fucking hysterical, and he really uses the medium well. But yeah, most people on it aren't interesting enough to warrant an entire page. Hell, most people in general aren't interesting enough, which is why social media is so annoying.

Social media in itself is stupid enough. I don't include it in Internet Culture, because really, it's fucked up on a lot of things. I never used to find 'lol' annoying, but because of FaceBook [I had for the same reasons as R1ll] anytime I see it, I want to break someone's neck. Anytime someone acts like a retard or a cunt they think they're a troll. I remember when that was used for people who were trying to get a rise out of someone but all subtle like. Worst in my opinion is how it spread that stupid meme/pop culture references. Before I deleted mine years yonder ago, I saw those Reddit-comics pop up and shite motivational memes... I've seen screenshots of people posting YOLO alot also... They take a dead horse, hang it from a tree, set fire to it, and use it as a pinyata.

@Appo: Yeah like i said, people can definitely post funny things. I just find it dumb that everyone who has a twitter automatically thinks that they're an internet comedian, especially when half the time they don't fully understand that current event that they're bashing. And that's another thing, 90% of the jokes you see on social networking sites are super negative. They're always making fun of a politician or celebrity. We get it, famous people fuck up too.

And agreed, if I have someone's phone number it's enough for me. Unfortunately my friends are like "BUT I ORGANIZE EVENTS ON IT" and other stuff. The worst one is "DID YOU SEE THAT THING I POSTED ON FACEBOOK??" "i don't go to facebook, just send me the link" "NO, GO TO MY FACEBOOK IT'S ON THERE" "uuuggghhhh".

I also find it ridiculous that so many companies now link to their facebook page instead of their actual personal website. Seriously, wtf. And how so many contests and events require you to "like this page on facebook in order to participate". Lame. Another stupid one is my girlfriend's sorority (i'm so glad she's about to quit) who's only form of notification to it's members is Facebook. meaning that if you don't have a facebook, you have no idea what the hell is going on at the sorority. And so many other things are like that, and it's just stupid.

@dempsey: Yeah reddit can't get enough of the whole "misused memes on facebook" thing. It's true that it's dumb. I mean honestly, is it that hard to find out what a meme is and what types of things they are supposed to represent before you randomly make your own? Hell, i know what most of the memes are and i'm still afraid i'll accidentally use one wrong! It's weird how people can't seem to take the whole "think before you speak/act" concept and apply it to the internet. Seriously, it's not that hard. you're just making a fool of yourself if you don't educate yourself on the simple things.

edit: The only thing that i do that social networking sites do is the whole "@person" thing that twitter does, but it's completely different. First of all, people on forums definitely did it before twitter was even known at all (i remember doing it a lot). It saves me having to use crazy quote tags and i can just tell the person that this part of my post is in response to their post. And second, it's just a normal way of communicating that has in no way been reserved as "a twitter thing" like the hashtags. I mean, considering what the @ symbol means, it's just common sense to use it the way we do.

I use Facebook to talk to friends, and sometimes they(and everyone else) use it for boring repetitive games, liking pictures to prove they don't hate Jesus, and talking about some girl who recently died. One who was not particularly notable prior to her death. Kinda like Trayvon Martin, except white, female, and I have no reason to believe it was a hate crime.

Call me Mik

Lol, don't even get me started on Amanda Todd. I don't mean to offend anyone here, but she got what was coming to her. Unlike people who are bullied for things they can't really control (down syndrome etc), she had a choice. I'll leave it at that.

Yeah, I don't really like facebook. I use it to keep in touch with some old friends who seem to change cell phone #s more than they change their underwear. A lot of people at my school (which I think is stupid enough as is) complain about all their facebook 'friends' that start drama, as if they're unaware that they can just delete their 'friends'. But then again, the people who say they 'hate drama' are usually the ones who start it.

I really only keep it now to run my shoes business, since I can't JUST have the shoes page, if I delete my account, the shoes page goes with it. :|

Yeah, that sucks.
But you CAN remove all friends and other associations.
Except for that Halo Sprites group I saw you in when I looked it up. :P
Most of my interaction on Facebook is keeping up with just a couple of friends, and also commenting on their pictures.

I back up Mik on the Amanda Todd thing. She seems to much like this girl I know who does shit on purpose for attention, plays victim, doesn't tell the other side of the story, lies about serious things (she lied about getting raped) etc. There's more I can expand on but it's probably best that I don't.

Yolo, Swag, hashtag... Oh my gawd. Who the fuck is this Drake person, too? People are such posers and they need to cut this shit out. And people are dead serious when they type it, too. I'd write their names down in my Death Note if I had one.

Twitter is retarded. Like, I legit hate it so much. Everyone on there is an attention whore. I made an account as a joke because I wanted to post dumb shit, but once and awhile I write other, more serious things. Yeah. I'm disappointed in myself, too.

Facebook? I made an account years ago. Only paid attention like 2 years ago. It's good to keep up with friends and stuff, but I hate it deep down- especially after it randomly updated me to Timeline. My news feed is constantly filled with dumb shit. I don't even know why I have most of these people listed as friends on there. I hate more than half of them.

I hate this shit but I use it. I'll punish myself for it later on.
