"Your life defines you, but you define your legacy."

Welcome to the new HS Community! That's right, the forums have been renamed. But why? Well, take a seat on santa's lap and let me tell you everything you need to know.

First of all, this isn't just a rename because we felt like it. This rename has a purpose, and that purpose is that we have changed what this community is all about. We're no longer going to be based around halo, sprites, and halo sprites. I know this may come as a sort of shock for some of you, but rest assured; there is no need to be alarmed. You see, we realized that our wonderful community still likes halo, but it's no longer our primary game like it was back in the halo 2 and 3 days. We also still like to sprite, but it's not as huge of a fad as it used to be. Not to mention, most of the content and projects that the community dishes out doesn't have much to do with sprites. Now of course, there are still plenty of spriters and sprite based projects, so i'll go ahead and ease your tension and let you know that the Sprite Warehouse forum is still there and isn't going away, as is the Comic Corner. Halo Talk, however, has been converted into a general Game Chat forum where we can talk about any and all video games of all genres and platforms.

While the main thing that brought our community together isn't our true theme anymore, I can tell you right now that this is still the same community and forum that you have grown to know and love. Our real goal now is actually to show off our community more than ever. Instead of being about Halo Sprites, the forum is now about the HS Community, hence the rename! To highlight this, our main forum category is now the Project Expo, which houses the topics for all of our different community projects. What used to be the "Featured Projects" is now the highlight of the forum, and we've got several newcomers! Rather than explain this all to you in a giant paragraph, i'll go ahead and list all of the changes below:

  • New main theme, "Simple". We've got a new color scheme, folks.
  • 2 other new themes, "Blu Warp" and "Hard Day's Night".
  • Ex.Ivion and Black Tie are no longer usable themes.
  • New userbars and slightly modified leveling system to go with it.
  • New category, "Project Expo", which houses the old featured projects along with some new ones, including Pulsar and Cass Reviews. We've got even more incoming, InEx making a comeback just offhand. We'll be adding plenty more projects in the months to come, however.
  • Forums and categories have been renamed. The "Community" forum has been renamed to HSC HQ, and the old HSF HQ no longer exists. "Sprites and Other Images" is now "Community Creations" since it now houses more than just images. The Literature forum is now the Literature Library and Halo Talk is now Game Chat.
  • Forums have also been moved. The Literature Library forum is now under Community Creations, Forum Updates is now a sub-forum of Community News, and the Forum Help Desk (which now also encompasses Requests and Suggestions) and Introduction Panel are now under HSC HQ.

Now, you're probably wondering what the "HS" in HS Community stands for now that we're no longer based around halo sprites. That's a really great question, and the answer is---

Also, I've got two more announcements to make:

With the new focus on the community, I'd like to point out to everyone that we have an awesome calendar that you guys can add events to. As you can see at the bottom under the active users list, your event shows up as a link that leads to a forum. This will be great for those of you who have your project forums who want to add upcoming reveals and events for your project. However, everyone else is also free to use it as well!

My next announcement is simply to be sure to answer the poll that is attached to this topic! We've got 3 new themes total and the staff and I would just like to know which ones you guys like best. So mess around with all of them and then come back here and vote!

Thanks guys, that's all for today. Sorry for the wait, but as you can see this was a pretty big update! Enjoy the new forums, and once again welcome to the new HS Community!

I love Hard Day's Night though, and I like the trending away from Halo more. There's just too much great stuff out there to focus on just Halo.

Well, while we try to never lose members, this is what we wanted to do with the site. We're all growing out of Halo obsessions and moving onto other things. Though, we hope you come back more often than you think!

Well, I guess a little more justification of the change is in order, so let me see if I can explain everything the right way-

A few months back, we looked around the forum and didn't really like the lack of activity. Don't get me wrong, it's about the same it's always been (except for way back when at the old HS when we had like 8 moderators and a million members) and that's okay. We realize not every member constantly has new content to post or can be on every waking second. Which is why we want to get more new members. That led to the next question; What kind of members do we want to attract?
To answer that, we had to step back and see what we wanted on the board to grow. We could see that not everyone was super excited about halo anymore- infact the general consensus is that the franchise faces some... challenges ahead in the fanbase. We could also see that spriting is not as popular and as common with the community as it once was, or was expected to be. We could also see that we did not want to attract the wrong kind of members: the sprite thiefs, the <10 year-olds who are starting to become frequent in halo, essentially people who wouldn't have anything positive to contribute to the community. That's when it hit R1LL square in the face.
This is what we are now, or perhaps what this version of HaloSprites has been all along- a forum for the community where members of the community host projects of their own. From one-man shows like Phoenix Seven and _speed_ to team-led projects like Pulsar, this version of HaloSprites was about the community from the start. We had to get most of the community back from Triblox for starters, and some members of both communities are perhaps lost forever... But the point is, those of us who have grown up with this community might have realized it without knowing it. We're not too huge on sprites or halo anymore. So, that's why we've changed. We're trying to attract some new members, those who are interested in projects run by members of a community, for said community.

Ah, dem feels. Also, double post because this post needed to be separate.

So, what does the HS in HSCommunity stand for now, if we do not have as much halo or sprites as we once did. That's a great question! Actually, it stands for--

The end of my post.

HS is now like the initials in B.J. Hunnicut fro M*A*S*H's first name, it means whatever you want it to. Hopelessly Screwed? Happy Sailing? Hateful Snark? Hilarious Sociopath? HoNk SqUeAk? The possibilities are endless!

And now I have my own topic to hold a monopoly over. I bet you're all so overjoyed.

...You know it just occurred to me, HS could also mean Hideous Spiders. I hate you all now.

I like the changes to the organisation and change in focus however I don't like any of the themes, so far basic is my favourite however blue text and normal text size (non bold) colour is annoying. The blue (especially the non bold parts) is extremely hard to read due to the white shading underneath it, this is the same for the normal text. I think choosing a font without the white shading and change the blue text to another colour.

I don't like the fact that there is no closing blue bar on the chat box.

I don't know if this is something on your end, my browser or the other forum, but when I visited the Game Maker Community forum (also zetaboard) all the small sub forum description text went the same blue as this sub forum description on this forum. It only happened once the first time I visited the GMC after this update and I haven't been able to recreate it since then but I though I'd mention it.

Also can I have the banner in image form, I want to add it as a banner in _speed_.
