HARPERS FALLS Episode #560

Created by: Albie Gray

Written by: Albie Gray

Scene One: Corner of Revere and Charles Streets. Bethany Arthur is confronting a young man whom she hired to slander Dylan Harper. Violet Harper, Dylan's cousin, is listening to the whole thing.

YOUNG MAN: I don't think your parents would approve of what you are doing!
BETHANY: You let me worry about my stupid parents!
(Out comes Violet)
VIOLET: No, you'd best worry about ME! Slandering my cousin, isn't that just like you!
BETHANY (dismissive): Who are you again, hun?
VIOLET: Shut up, Beth!
BETHANY: Oh my god, why are you talking to you, shouldn't you be at your math/geek club?
VIOLET (mockingly): Oh my gosh, Bethany! You are going to pay! And you too!
(Violet points at the unknown man, while he walks away)
BETHANY: Get back here, I'm paying you!
YOUNG MAN: Not in THIS lifetime, I am going to find Dylan Harper and tell him what you are doing. And you'd better hope he doesn't demolish YOU all over Beacon Hill!
BETHANY: You.....NERD! A perfect plan and scheme and you DESTROYED it!
VIOLET: What is your problem! Why do you wanna ruin my family!
BETHANY: For reasons that are NONE of your business.
VIOLET: When it comes to my family, it IS my business, you spoiled brat! You know what? Your popularity will fall once I tell the entire school what you did to my cousin!
BETHANY: Nice grammar, geek.
VIOLET: Why don't you care?!
BETHANY: Because I think it's cute that you think you could ruin my popularity, besides I know you won't.
VIOLET: Yeah, right! Wait until tomorrow! You're popularity will be over by the second week of school!
(Violet starts to walk away)
BETHANY: You won't do it Violet.
VIOLET: Want to bet? I can be as stubborn as you are!
BETHANY: Because if you do, I will ruin your sister's status. Everyone in this school believes ANYTHING I say! I will make up a rumor about her and I WILL RUIN HER POPULARITY! Seriously. Remember Amber Wellston? She went from cheerleading captain to a miserable video game addict just because I didn't like the way her voice sounded. I will and can glady do that to your sister in less than a week! Besides, I want Cam anyways! Wouldn't it be a great couple, middle school quarterback and middle school cheer captain?
(Violet is now a little worried, but still strong)
VIOLET: U-um..
BETHANY: You know what? You choose which rumor HOlet, sorry I mean Violet.
VIOLET: Haha, very funny. NOT!
BETHANY: So you choose! Do you want bisexual freak, fake boobs, eating disorder-
VIOLET: Fine, stop! I won't tell anyone! Are you happy?
BETHANY: Yes, I am! You better not say a WORD to anyone, because remember I can choose anytime to make your sister's life a living hell.
(Violet rolls her eyes; she is sick of Bethany's arrogance)
BETHANY: This includes your rich parents too, k?
VIOLET: Whatever! Remember I have dirt on you too, Bethany! And believe me, THIS will backfire on you.
(Bethany laughs)
BETHANY (smugly): Leave. Go do homework or something.
VIOLET: Only to get away from you!

(While leaving, Violet mumbles her breath "Oh god, what the hell do I do?" While she leaves, the young man, James, Amber's brother, is stunned that it was Bethany who demolished his sister. Violet might not be able to tell anyone what Bethany was doing, but HE could!)

Scene Two: Cheers Beacon Hill. A quiet Dylan is sitting and planning on going to the Hampshire House restaurant upstairs. He sips a gin and tonic, a drink that had once been a favorite of his mother's. James, infuriated at what he had done, comes in.

YOUNG MAN: Are you Dylan Harper?
DYLAN: Yeah, who're you?
YOUNG MAN: My name is James. James Wellston.
DYLAN: What's going on?
JAMES: I wanted to let you know what was going on.
DYLAN: All right. I have a lunch reservation upstairs.
JAMES: I want to confess something.
DYLAN: What?
JAMES: It was me who gave Bethany Arthur your number. She paid me to tap into your cousin's contact list, and she's been bombarding you with texts calling you a slut.
(Dylan is furious)
DYLAN: Oh, she HAS, has she?
JAMES: Yeah, I just confronted her, and your cousin, Violet, was confronting her too.
DYLAN: Thank you, James, but I think you had best leave. Because I don't want you to be around when I confront Bethany.
JAMES: I am sorry.
DYLAN: Not as sorry as that little snip is going to be once I expose her and her lies once and for all!
JAMES: I am sorry about what I did.
DYLAN: A seventh grader spreading lies about me, and I don't even know her! At least you admitted what you did, James, this will go better with you.

(Dylan storms up to the restaurant. James feels relieved, but he knows now to not cross the Harpers)

Scene Three: Michael's townhouse. He is talking with Mr. Ronald Arthur, the father of Bethany.

MR. ARTHUR: I wish us meeting wasn't under such circumstances.
MICHAEL: I know, Ronald. I just got a call from Dylan, and he was very angry.
MR. ARTHUR: What happened?
MICHAEL: A guy named James Wellston went to the Cheers Beacon Hill and told him what had happened.
MR. ARTHUR: What was it?
MICHAEL: This Wellston character said he had been hired to get Dylan's cell number. For the last few days, Dylan has been receiving some nasty texts. Texts that he can't figure out where they are coming from, calling him a slut!
MR. ARTHUR: I don't recall hiring any one named Wellston, unless Bethany had.
(Michael's cell rings, it's Dylan.)
MICHAEL: I have to take this.
MR. ARTHUR: By all means.
MICHAEL (on phone): Dyl, what's wrong?
DYLAN: James Wellston came in and confessed it all to me. He had tapped into Jennifer's cell phone, and got my number, for Bethany Arthur to bombard me with texts calling me a slut!
MICHAEL: You don't worry about a thing, Dylan. Where are you?
DYLAN: Hampshire House. I will be at the house later.
MICHAEL: I will stop by later.
(Michael disconnects the call)
MR. ARTHUR: Sounds like bad news.
MICHAEL: It is. James Wellston confessed to Dylan.
MR.ARTHUR: I see. Well, you can be assured of this, Michael. Bethany will be SEVERELY punished for what she did to you and your son.

(Ronald storms back to his townhouse on the west side of Louisburg Square.)

Scene Four: Anyssa and Bryan's apartment.

BRYAN: That was a raw deal.
ANYSSA: How could that judge give her a SUSPENDED sentence for what she did!
BRYAN: Some would say judicial restraint.
ANYSSA: That is not what I would say. Far from it.
BRYAN: I know, darling. But, I have an idea.
ANYSSA: What is it?
BRYAN: I talked with Sheila and with Amy Smythe. Sheila and Allen and Amy and Cody are having dinner at the Top of the Hub. They invited us, want to go?
ANYSSA: A nice meal will take my mind off of today. That would be great. Let's get ready.
BRYAN: I will call Sheila and let her know.
ANYSSA: Thanks, honey. What would I do without you?
BRYAN: I don't know, sweetie.
ANYSSA: I do have a surprise for you.
BRYAN: What is it?
ANYSSA: I went to the doctor during one of the trial's recesses, and I found out something good.
BRYAN: What?
ANYSSA: I am pregnant!

(Bryan is so happy he takes Anyssa in his arms and they kiss passionately)

Scene Five: Top of the Hub. Sheila, Amy; Allen and Cody are waiting.

SHEILA: I just got a call from Bryan. They are on their way.
AMY: That is great.
SHEILA: He sounded giddy.
CODY: This is interesting. What is going on?
SHEILA: I don't know. Something is going on.
(Enter Anyssa and Bryan)
AMY: Well, look at YOU two. You got some good news, I take it.
SHEILA: Nyssa, I knew you were upset about the court trial, but you are absolutely thrilled now. The judge didn't change his decision?
ANYSSA: No, something ELSE made that seem unimportant.
CODY: What is going on?
ANYSSA: I talked with Dr. Stevenson, and it turns out I am pregnant!
(The crowd is dumbfounded.)
AMY: Anyssa, that is WONDERFUL!
CODY: Congrats.
SHEILA: Nyssa, that IS good news.
ALLEN: How far along are you?
ANYSSA: A few weeks along.
SHEILA: You should take some time off.
BRYAN: Already taken care of, Sheila.

(The three couples enjoy their evening together.)

(Voice of Greg Rikaart: "Harpers Falls will continue in a moment, here on ONtv.)

Scene Six: The Arthur townhouse. Located on the West side of Louisburg Square, almost midway between Michael's and Dylan's townhouses, Ronald Arthur lives with his wife, Chelsea and their daughter, Bethany. Ronald is infuriated after what had happened.

RONALD: Chelsea, where is Bethany?
CHELSEA: She is at Gisele Franklin's house in Cambridge, what's wrong?
RONALD: Can you call her and have her come home immediately.
CHELSEA: I can, but what is wrong, what has she done?
RONALD: Did we hire anyone named Wellston?
CHELSEA: No, not that I am aware of.
RONALD: It's as I feared then. Bethany had hired him.
CHELSEA: What are you saying, dear? You're scaring me.
RONALD: I just came back from Michael Harper's townhouse. He just told me that a James Wellston, which Bethany hired, tapped into his niece's cell phone contact list, got her cousin, Dylan's number, and has been leaving him some very nasty texts, mainly calling him a slut!
CHELSEA: That is terrible. Of course, I will call her.
RONALD: And right away too.

(Ronald waits to hear from his daughter)

Scene Seven: Dylan's townhouse. Barry is trying to coax Dylan out of his anger.

BARRY: I am sorry, sweetie. It took bravery on James' part to tell you what he did.
DYLAN: His honesty does him credit, love.
BARRY: I feel bad. Especially with what she had done.
DYLAN: I know. I can't even comprehend why she did that.
BARRY: You are the farthest thing from a slut that anyone can ever see.
DYLAN: Thank you, honey.
BARRY: I mean it. You were with your boyfriend for four years! That is not a feat to sneeze at.
DYLAN: I know, babe. I don't even know Bethany Arthur. She has no call to act the way she has.
BARRY: No, she doesn't. That is her idiocy.
DYLAN: I hope she is punished for what she did.
(Dylan's phone rings. It's another text.)
BARRY: Here, let me deal with this.
DYLAN: OK.
BARRY (texting): I know this is you, Bethany Arthur! I am blocking your number! If you call this number again, I will have you charged with harassment!
(Barry sends the text, then blocks and deletes Bethany's number)
DYLAN: Wow!
BARRY: Nothing to it, sweetheart.

(Barry takes his love in his arms, and the two kiss)

Scene Eight: Louisburg Square. James is walking along the East Edge, and he is sad. Sheila sees him.

SHEILA: What are you doing here?
JAMES: How is Dylan doing?
SHEILA: My cousin is fine, no thanks to you and that little brat, Bethany!
JAMES: No doubt I deserve it.
SHEILA: If it were up to me, I would have you locked up!
JAMES: I want to make sure she can't do that again!
SHEILA: She is a junior high student. We can't really do anything about it, except for her parents.
JAMES: Right.
SHEILA: I think they should know.
JAMES: I think they already do know.
SHEILA: I see.
(Enter Allen.)
ALLEN: What are you doing here? Haven't you done enough damage to my family?
SHEILA: He understands that. Look at the Arthur townhouse.

(The group looks)

Scene Nine: The Atchley Mansion. Hannah is on the phone to her brother.

HANNAH: That is terrible what she did to you, Dyl.
DYLAN (over the phone): Sounds like something is going on.
HANNAH: What?
DYLAN: Barry blocked the texts and the number from the person sending me the texts.
HANNAH: That is good. What else?
DYLAN: Violet found out who was doing it.
HANNAH: Who?
DYLAN: One of her classmates.
HANNAH: I am sorry, bro. What are you going to do?
DYLAN: My hands are tied. We're letting her parents deal with her.
HANNAH: Good idea.
DYLAN: I hope so.

(Hannah hangs up the phone.)

Scene Ten: The Arthur Townhouse.

RONALD: Bethany, come in here.
BETHANY: What?
RONALD: I had a nice long talk with Michael Harper.
BETHANY: Oh, them!
RONALD: I want to know ONE thing, Bethany. Did you hire James Wellston?
BETHANY: Why would I want to do that?
RONALD: Don't lie to me! James already admitted to what he had done!
BETHANY (stunned): What?!
RONALD: Texting Dylan Harper and calling him a slut. You know he could easily sue you for slander!
BETHANY: I am not lying!
RONALD: I believe you are. And I heard about your threats to the Harper twins. You think you run the school, but you don't run things here, my dear! Hand over your phone!
BETHANY: Excuse me!?
RONALD: As of right now, you are without your cell phone. Also you are grounded for a month. No excursions anywhere except for school!
BETHANY: You can't do this to me?!
RONALD: It's about time I took some responsibility!

(Ronald leaves the room, Bethany looks at the closed door and throws a pilllow at it as hard as she could. She then starts to cry.)

(Voice of Jennifer Gareis: "On the next Harpers Falls...")

AMY (to Cody): I can't wait for our wedding.

ROSEMARY (to Dylan): Barry did right in blocking that number.

WENDY (to Michael): Bethany seems determined, we can't count her out.
