Our scene opens not at the Futura, but at the Orange County building in downtown Orlando, where Zach and Jennifer Janson, the wiliest couple in all of Central Florida (and that is saying a lot) were giving their presentation on their construction project. "This resort will be catering to the high echelon rich," Zach stated, "it will also be an adult resort." "What about Children?" one of the commissioners asked, "Universal does a good business with children too, not as much as Disney, of course, but we do have a children demographic too." Zach and Jennifer smiled slyly, they knew that answer. "Well, madam," Jennifer said evasively, "I am sure we would have some kind of child care around there, but as we said, this is catered to the adults, and children don't come into the plans of what we have. The Maxim will be the utmost in luxury, and in adult entertainment." "We'll talk this over," the Comission chairman said, "and we will get back to you on this." Jennifer and Zach walked out, bouyed by their success. "They bought it," Zach gloated, "and I don't think we have to worry about not being approved." "So, we have to wait for the decision," Jennifer said, "but I think our extra insurance worked out wonderfully!" Prior to the meeting, Jennifer and Zach had offered a couple of the more pro-development commissioners some money to sweeten the deal to their side. Once more, the Jansons stooped to chicanery to get exactly what they wanted. Meanwhile, Sarah Jo was getting ready for lunch. Aaron and Aidan were coming too. Rusty was taking care of the budget for the month; Libby and Mary Lynn were at Central Casting taking care of some PR work over some announcement of a new resort for Universal. A few minutes later, Libby and Mary Lynn came in, there was disgust on their faces. "You won't believe what is going on," Libby said. "What is going on?" Marie Jensen asked. "Everything all right, Libby?" Joan Neuenworth asked. "We had just gotten out of a meeting with some of the PR people," Libby moaned, "and there is talk at Universal about a new resort being built." "So what?" Joan said, "Resorts get built all the time." "Sounds like you're more worried than anything," Marie said. "It's who is building it that has us worried," Mary Lynn pleaded. "Who?" Marie asked, dreading the answer. "Zach and Jennifer Janson," Libby groaned. "You're kidding," Joan said. "I wish we were," Mary Lynn said, "but we're not. They are awaiting approval from the commissioners, which seems certain." "Excuse me," Adam McArthur said, "I couldn't help overhearing, I am sorry, but I don't think we have anything to worry about." "We don't?" Libby asked. "I don't believe we do, either," Andrea Sherman said. Adam and Andrea were formerly married, and she had remarried once after their divorce, but the two remained close friends, "I know some people at Universal, and I still own a resort there myself. I can see what is going on." Just then, Sarah Jo came up, as Aaron and Aidan came too. "Hello there, Daddy," Sarah Jo smiled at her parents, "hello there, Mom." "Hello sweetheart," Andrea smiled, "are you all ready for lunch?" "We are," Aaron smiled. Aidan was excited. "Where are we eating?" Aidan asked. "I made a reservation at the Crystal Palace in the park," Sarah Jo grinned. "We figured that Sarah Jo could make the reservation," Adam smiled at Aaron, "since she does work here." "Daddy," Sarah Jo laughed. The five went to their lunch. Meanwhile, Joan received a phone call. "Futura Resort, Joan Neuenworth," she said. "Ms. Neuenworth," the voice said, "this is the head of the Orange County Commission. Do you know of a Jennifer Janson?" "I knew her as Jennifer Atherton," Joan said, "is something wrong?" "Perhaps," the commission chairman said, "we have reason to believe that she and her husband paid off a couple of the commissioners to get approval of their resort." "You know," Joan said, "I wouldn't put it past them to do that. Jennifer was always a reckless woman. Whenever she wanted something, she never let anything stand in her way, no matter who it was." "Then it is as I thought," the commissioner said, "there was bribery and corruption used here." "Jennifer and Zach will be angry, not that that bothers me," Joan said, "how did you find out about this?" "Andrea Sherman called me," the commissioner said. Joan smiled, if anyone could stop it, it was surely Andrea. "So, does that mean the request will be denied?" Joan asked. "Absolutely," the commission chairman said, "at the meeting, I will deny the request, and also have the two commissioners who took bribes removed from their posts at once." "Very good," Joan smiled, "thank you for calling." Joan came out of her office, a smile on her face. "I don't think we have to worry, everyone," she said. "What happened?" Libby asked. "The resort that Jennifer and Zach want to build," Joan said, "won't be built after all. Jennifer and Zach pulled some bribery on some of the commission." "Why does that not surprise me," Marie sneered, "she is such a prima donna." "Not to mention that husband of her's," Mary Lynn said. "This could well spell a major setback," Libby grinned, "and that makes a good case for us." A couple of hours later, Andrea, Adam, and the others returned from lunch. "What is going on?" Andrea asked. "Your influence was felt and worked out," Joan smiled. "I see the call came in," Adam grinned. "What call?" Sarah Jo asked. "Something happened at that commissioner meeting," Joan said, "you had heard about the planned resort called Maxim that Jennifer wanted to build?" "Oh, that," Sarah Jo said, "a place of overindulgence, for the already overindulged and lazy rich!" "Well, it may not be built after all," Andrea said, "I know some people at Universal, and they found out some things about Jennifer and Zach." "What did they do?" Sarah Jo asked. "Bribed some of the commissioners to get their votes," Mary Lynn said. "This time she's overplayed her hand," Sarah Jo said, "we should have her and Zach arrested!" "When I talked with the commission chair," Joan said, "it seems like there will be some arrests. The two commissioners, and perhaps Jennifer and Zach. Not sure on the latter, but the former will most assuredly be arrested." Meanwhile, Jennifer and Zach received the call. "We're sorry," the commission chair said, although he wasn't sorry at all, "your request for building permits for the Maxim have been denied." Jennifer glared at the telephone, "How dare you!" she hissed. "Don't you take that tone with me," the chairman snapped, "I know what you two did." "You can't prove any of it," Jennifer snapped. "I can," the chairman snapped back, "and I will." Zach took the phone, "You can't talk to my wife like that," he roared. "I don't have to take your abuse either, Janson," the chair snapped, "you may think you're wealthy and all that, but you're as mortal as the rest of us! And don't be surprised if you get arrested for bribery!" The chair then hung up the phone. "Damn him!" Zach sneered, "Who does that fool think he is?" Just then, there was a knock on the door. "Orange County Sheriff," the deputy yelled, "you both are under arrest!" Jennifer sniffed, "For what?" she looked down on the deputy. "Bribery," the deputy said snapping handcuffs on Jennifer. "Get your scummy hands off of me," Jennifer snapped. "Release my wife," Zach roared. "No," the deputy said, "you're under arrest too, Mr. Janson." Both were marched out of the Peabody and taken to the Orange County Jail. "I'll sue this county," Zach yelled, "and your entire department!" "Ah shut up!" the deputy snapped. "You don't dare talk to me that way!" Zach yelled again. A few minutes later, the two villains were bailed out and they were back at the Peabody. "Those peons," Zach sneered, "I will show them!" Jennifer smiled evilly, "They will indeed, darling," she said, "and I know how we can do that!" "How?" Zach asked. Jennifer had a nasty smile on her face, "That chairman will never lead a commission again!" she said gleefully. (camera fades to black!) |
