There are only a couple of spaces left, would be nice to see a few of you represent Haverhill.

Interesting indeed. I'm liking the look of the comp system in place. Assuming there are still places, and that I can get there, I might have to bring a 0 comp Dark Eldar army over.

Just thought I would give a report of yesterday's Tactical Assault tournament run by Grant over at Bury Wargamers club. There was an excellent variety of armies fielded and the level of painting skills were mindblowing! Prizes included boxes of demons, new Imperial Guard (I just can't call them 'Astra Militarum'!) , and an amazing first prize of a Space Marine strike force worth £140. Strangely enough it was the wooden spoon (with some chocolate Cadbury eggs) that was most coveted. Strange indeed...
There were three rounds with differing missions with night fighting, mysterious objectives and secondary victory points (as well as spot prizes in each round for events such as first failed leadership, first player to be tabled and first to take first blood).
First up was "Custom Relic with kill points" - Hammer and Anvil deployment, with my Crimson Fists Space Marines up against an Eldar force.

As expected when I go up against someone known as "Dream Crusher" I suffered a defeat. Results were 22pts to Eldar, 8pts to Space Marines. I took the relic early on but was unable to hold it due to the weight of fire being aimed at me. On the bright side I did take down the Wraithknight!

Second round was "Data Leakage" - Vanguard strike deployment up against a Necron force.

I found this particularly challenging as the necrons can re-animate at end of each phase. My tactical troops couldn't take enough warriors out and went down quite quick and although my assault squads denied some of the objectives from the necrons they were not scoring units.
Result 18pts to Necrons, 0pts to my marines. D'oh! That wooden spoon was in sight!

Third and last round was Emperor’s Will and Crusade - Dawn of War Deployment with my Crimson Fists up against Space Wolves.
Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of this match.
The dice god finally woke up and I started rolling decent dice. I also managed to wrong foot my opponent drawing troops away from objectives and a highlight for me was my librarian using puppet master to take control of the long fangs to destoy a rhino carrying a squad of grey hunters. My land raider then fired on the long fangs almost wiping them out. Just because I'm nice like that!
Result 16pts to Crimson Fists, 0pts Space Wolves.

The prizes were awarded out to the deserving participants, whilst I could only look on in admiration (and a bit of envy?). The main prize was awarded last....That highly sought after wooden spoon!
At least I didn't come in last as I placed 14th out of 16.
I wasn't too worried about it as this was my first tournament against some high calibre players. And friends were made too, so all the better.
Everyone was really friendly and although I was the only one 'flying the flag for Haverhill' I was made to feel really welcome and I hope to see them all again soon.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank Grant for all the hard work he put in to organise the tournament and run it smoothly.
Well done mate, you should be proud of yourself.

I would recommend to all our 40K'ers to get involved in the next tournament if possible, I think it's around 6 months away if I heard right.
Bring it on!!!!

Thanks Al, glad you enjoyed yourself.

We will of course post up on the Haverhill forums when any further tournaments are announced.
