Balancing pH For Better Health

When your pH (acid/alkaline balance) is consistently outside of normal range, disease nearly always develops. Some disease entities that might occur from pH imbalance are psychiatric illness, sluggish metabolism, overgrowth of bacteria or fungus in the body and cancer. Balancing pH can usually be done totally through the adjustment of diet.

For most people, the pH of saliva before meals should be about 6.8. This may be tested with pH paper that ranges from 5.5-8.0 for accurate results. Bacteria in the mouth (which produce organic acids) may cause the pH to appear lower (more acidic). If a low pH is found, you should do the following:

* brush the teeth thoroughly with salt as an abrasive,
* thoroughly rinse the mouth with 1% hydrogen peroxide (1 part 3% hydrogen peroxide and 2 parts water) without swallowing any hydrogen peroxide,
* thoroughly rinse the mouth with water and spit all of the water out
* test the saliva pH 30-45 minutes after the last mouth rinsing. The saliva measurement should be done on the 4th spit. Spit into the sink three times, and spit the 4 time onto the pH paper. Be careful not to touch the end of the paper upon which you spit as this could alter the results. A pH below 6.7 is too acidic, and a pH above 6.9 is too alkaline for ideal health.

To perform the test noted in this paragraph only, you must have an empty stomach and omit all homeopathics and supplements until this test is over. Eating a fruit after testing your pH and rechecking you pH one hour later will help you define whether you need to eat more fruits and vegetables, or more fish, chicken, turkey, healthy oils, nuts, and seeds. If you move further out of range after eating fruit, eat a piece of meat with a plant enzyme. Recheck your pH 2-3 hours later. If it has come into balance this will signify that you require more animal source protein in your diet.

Once basic dietary changes have been determined by this technique, you should measure your pH before breakfast and supper and 1-2 hours after each of these meals for at least four consecutive days. During these four days, record all your pH measurements and the times they were taken, in a diary along with the time and amounts and types of all foods and drinks consumed. Once you have your dietary needs adjusted to keep your pH 6.7-6.9, continue to check your pH four times a day (one day each week so that you are sure that you are maintaining the proper balance). When you are symptom free, check your pH one day a month to assure that you are maintaining the proper balance.

Those who require fish or meat for their metabolic type would be wise to not eat raw or excessively well-done fish or meat because undercooking increases the risk of parasitism and overcooking increases the risk of cancer. It is best to take one or two digestive enzymes when eating meat or fish. (People who are initially vegetarian by nature and sympathetic in metabolic type, if exposed to excessive stress may exhaust their adrenal glands and change to a type of metabolism that requires more meat.)

If you cannot balance your pH in 1-2 weeks, it is important that you discuss the information that you have recorded with your doctor.

* Healthy oils for cooking are MCT and olive.
* Healthy oils for salads include walnut, flax, unroasted sunflower, unroasted sesame and almond.
* Glass and ceramic are the ideal cookware. Stainless steel may be used occasionally, however when acidic foods are cooked in stainless steel, nickel is leached out of the cookware.
* If one is not in iron overload, a black cast iron skillet may be used occasionally. Do not use aluminum, teflon, silverstone, or any other type of cookware.
Don't be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all human understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7
