If you are working out regularly, you will need some carbs (Phase 2) in oreder to function and have energy. Doug says athletes, children, pregnant or nursing mothers all need to start with Phase 2. You will still progress due to activity. Sweating is important.
(you can post in the exercise section and let us know what you are doing and how it works!) :D

As far as which Phase 2 carbs are better, depends on your body. Some can tolerate rice but not wheat or wheat and not oats just depends on you. See which ones bother you or don't! :D I can deal with all of them at this point.

Phase 2 beans are any beans and peas. I have noticed when I eat a lot of beans I get heart palpatations - just a few, so I don't eat many of them.

Phase 1 you can have green beans.
