Even if you don't speak or understand a foreign language, you can probably tell which language is being spoken. For example, you can tell whether someone is speaking Chinese, German or Italian, without actually understanding a word of it. I've always found that pretty amazing, but what has really interested me, is how English would sound to someone who doesn't understand English.

Sounds a bit like Simlish. It feels like I should understand the dialogue, but I can't actually point to what they are exactly saying.

I always, ALWAYS forget about this site and wind up coming back to it months later. So I still think everyone's like 16 years old or something (like back when Nubi first started a forum).

Yesterday I was an extra in a film involving around 1000 people that was shot in Piccadilly Circus in London. Apparently it was the second largest film production held in Piccadilly Circus. Second to the last Harry Potter movie, I think. Someone even covered it for CNN's iReport. The film is called 51 Degrees and it is a disaster movie about a meteor about to hit London, told through the eyes of a German documentary producer. Or something like that at least.

Here's a rundown of my scene:

Me and 1000 other people had to rush to the centre of Piccadilly Circus and look towards the neon lights on the buildings (which display adverts from TDK, Hyundai and occasionally the news). Then we were supposed to start screaming and panicing. Apparently the signs were supposed to say "Meteor is due to hit London in two hours".

I think the movie will be pretty corny, but it was very fun to run about and act like a madman for three hours.

When '51 Degrees' hits the cinemas (which apparently it will), make sure to check it out. Look out for a skinny guy running about in a blue and white striped hoody.

方威兴奋地说：“你知道我为什么这么高兴吗？你以为我是为了订单吗？错，那个订单我还真没有放在心上。刘丰出事是近在眼前了，刘国峰凭借他那个贪官爸爸开宝马住别墅，他失去贪官爸爸这个靠山就一文不值了。真玄啊，赵颖幸亏没有嫁给这个家伙，否则一辈子不就毁了吗？”</p]

周锐摇头拒绝：“你先别急，现在庆祝太早，经信银行还没有任何消息呢。另外我也没有时间，我明天晚上要和骆伽见面。”</p]
方威奇怪地看着方威：“黄静一走，你就频频和骆伽约会，你有点不对吧？要是我娶了赵颖，就哪儿都不去天天在家陪她。”</p]
周锐看着方威决定不再隐瞒：“我要让骆伽尽快出国。”</p]
方威被他的话吓了一跳：“你打算告诉她？千万不能啊，这后果很严重啊。”</p]
周锐低头沉思着说：“自从知道泡泡龙的来历，我就开始担心骆伽，翻来覆去睡不着啊，我是她这世界上唯一的亲人，不能让她出任何的意外。我不会告诉她经信银行的真相，但是我一定要让她走。”</p]

阳光从窗户照射进来洒在肖芸的脸上，她此刻还躺在家里的床上。自从与陈明楷公开冲突之后，她已经很少去公司了，现在干脆在家里躺着，她不害怕也不担心，反正公司不可能开除自己，怀孕就是好啊。自从方威和李朝东打赌以后，肖芸将信将疑地等待着好消息，这个消息应该来自陈刚，他已经结束了在各个省市的巡视，崔行长让他重新加入了项目小组。肖芸连睡觉的时候都将手机放在枕边，每次铃声响起，就兴奋地看来电显示，可是没有一个来自陈刚，她只好一次次地将手机扔回枕边继续等待。肖芸索性打开音响，忘记公司里的争斗和订单的输赢，给婴儿听音乐，促进宝宝发育。</p]

Having written a paper on female representation in video games for my gender studies class last year, I found this alternative take on gender representation in games quite interesting.
It's my impression that the body of literature on gender in video games doesn't actually consider this argument at all.
Moviebob's take on this has a lot of merit actually. He doesn't so much go into the consequences of or the trend to portray female characters as heavily sexualised in the way of body or dress design, as much as he points out the way character poses inform us about their personality and how there seems to be an obvious bias towards male characters in the industry.
He only gets about 5 mins for his videos, but what he brings to the table in this video seems to be fertile grounds for further research into this matter.

Food for thought, anyway.

So... how is everybody? What's up? Tell us what's been going on in your life, or at least the parts you want to share. What did you do this weekend? Play any new games? Keeping up with studies/work?

Essentially, rant. About yourself. About life. About your annoying neighbor. About politics.

If you have me added on Facebook, then you'll know how close the London riots are hitting home. I can smell smoke right now.

Here's a summary of all the shit that I have witnessed or heard since last night:
-My area in South London took a real battering.
-Last night I saw about 40 hoodlums walking past my house.
-The area near my workplace is (rumoured to be) destroyed.
-Local cinema which is significant to the area has been destroyed.
- Cosmos (the best Asian restaurant in Surrey) has been burnt down
- Tiger Tiger (the best damn club) has been burnt down.
- Favourite mall has been raided.
- The hoodlums have torn up Camden market and have apparently raided a zoo. Not too sure how true the latter is. If a lion eats one of them I might laugh.
- And they've destroyed my local market place.
- Biggest hospital in my borough? Yep, it's been raided.
- My local electronics store was destroyed. Funnily enough, one of the looters was an employee who was caught by the police whilst they were still in their work outfit.
- They have burnt Camden Underworld. One of my hangouts whenever I'm in Camden. This shit just got even more personal. >:-(

Quite a lot of my friends who I either grew up with or went to sixth form with have partaken in the riots. They're bragging on Facebook. One of them even took a picture of himself with his stolen goods. That picture is now going viral (moron).

And we're also getting a heap of white middle class drunken twats who are using this as an opportunity to get some excitement in their lives. My friends saw them raiding a few corner shops.


I'm going to take some pictures of my area tomorrow. But I am slightly worried that there is a high possibility that I will be mugged. Normally I am not afraid of being mugged in my neighbourhood because the local hoodlums rarely ever mug local people (it's like an unspoken rule). But a lot of chavs and mandem from other boroughs in London are walking through my neighbourhood and have been robbing people. Why can't people stop being *heads?

It's wierd. I hope it's not just me.

The new location just kinda sucks. I can't tell where everything was actually posted anymore.

So, I really love Mirror's Edge but I thought it was kinda far out. Surely that kind of stuff is impossible and an exaggerated version of Free Running aka Parkour. After watching this video I'm kind of blown away by the human body and strength. Sure, some of the stuff in Mirror's Edge is still way out there, but most of it seems possible.



This video is just sick. I was prompted to look it up after a friend talked about parkour. I've always liked the idea and I used to be really active outside, pouncing on everything. But not anymore. T.T I think I'm going to start getting back into shape. This has inspired me.

I'm going to go run up a wall now.

So, last night around 12am I was just minding my own business and working on HotN. I see that Ashura is online and I drop a message in the Chatbox. Not five seconds later the power goes out. Damn you Ashura...

The wind picks up and I grab my ipod for a light to go in search of a real flashlight or some candles. Well, it turns out we suck at being prepared because I can't find a freakin' flashlight and my dad has the only lighter in his room. He's asleep and I don't feel like entering his territory. But I remember seeing a couple lighters in his truck. I poke my head outside and decide its better I not go out there. Not raining yet but the wind is scary.

The wind starts howling like there's a tornado outside and this prompts my dad to get up and light some candles. For about two minutes I'm like O.O with my back against a wall 'cause I think a tornado really is about to hit.

The night continues with rain and lightning and 80mph winds until 5-6am I think. It started between midnight and 1am. All I have is a dying ipod and virtually no light. Now, I'm not afraid of storms and after that brief pick up in wind I wasn't worried at all. But no matter how hard I tried I could not sleep. I was so incredibly bored. I alternated between playing a few minutes of Rocket Bunnies on my ipod, brainstorming ideas in my notes app on my ipod, and trying to fall asleep.

As it starts to get light out I go and look outside. Looks like a bomb hit all the trees in my town. Giant limbs were everywhere. One smashed into our dog pen. Later, at 9am, right as I was starting to drift off my friend comes to check on me because I don't have a cell phone she can text. We go and drive around. Entire trees are uprooted and fallen onto houses. I just thought it was a bad storm until I saw the highway signs and trees knocked over. Our power has been out since then and might take 48hrs to get back. (I've gone without power for a couple weeks after Hurricanes)

Man, I almost died of boredom though! Our house was fine though. My dad's fiancee's new car NEARLY got smashed by a huge limb. My friend was out in the storm looking for an open storm shelter and says "I thought I was going to die!" Of course I was sitting in the dark the whole time thinking "I'm so bored, power come back!"

Now I'm sitting at my dad's fiancee's house using her netbook (which is hard to type on) and trying to stay amused. Hence why I'm typing all this up. I'm lonely. T.T

tl;dr Don't blame you. Huge ass storm hit last night. Lotsa damage to the trees and power lines. Everyone seems to be okay. I've gotten virtually no sleep. I almost died from boredom (not the storm).

I'll post some pics of the damage once my friend uploads them!
