Eudora sat on one of the couches in the common room. She'd applied a light eye make-up and lipgloss. Her hair was pulled up, at least it was out of her face. It wasn't a complete updo, but it did the trick. She was nervous. There was no reason to be, she'd met her future husband before-in passing. It was before her parents had arranged a marriage for her though. She'd received the letter telling her that she was engaged from her parents, while she was spending time with her friends. Shortly after that she recieved the letter explaining the benefits of getting to know her future husband.

Nashton. He was her age, and completely emotionless. There was nothing there. Nothing at all. Eudora sat stiffly, if she was as emotionless as him this would be easier. As it was Eudora sat and felt her life slipping out of her grasp. She wouldn't be able to date, nor would she love who she married. Tightening her grip on the edge of the couch she looked around for Nashton. Surely he wouldn't be late?

They disappoint, They disappear, They die but they don't. They disappoint In turn, I fear. Forgive, though, they won't...

Nashton walked into the common room, still in his school robes. He'd had an interesting day. Some part of him felt.. good? He guessed it was good. As close to 'feeling good' as it could get for someone who was perpetually emotionally stunted? Yes, sure.
Eudora was here. He'd almost missed her. Oh.
They were supposed to be meeting tonight, at the request of, and for the respect of their families who would be joined together shortly after they graduated. The thought alone seemed tiring and unnecessary. Disdain. That was the best way to describe what he was feeling. If you could call it a feeling.
He sat down next to his wife-to-be on the couch. Respectively, in manner. He wasn't really into any kind of physical contact, even less so with a person he barely knew, and was being forced to be friendly to him. Well, at least he wasn't alone in this case. "What is the topic that was suggested for us to discuss tonight?" Get straight to it. The sooner they started talking and acting nice nice to each other, the faster the could go on with their separate lives like the miserable people they were both bound to be forever.

Eudora wasn't surprised at Nash's lack of emotion. This was the exact reaction she had thought he would have. The reaction that she would have to deal with for the rest of her life. There was no beating around the bush with Nash he just went straight for the facts.

"Our families. It was at the top of the suggestions from my parents, what about yours?" Dora looked at Nash in all of his uncaring glory. He wasn't terrible to look at, at least he wasn't hideous, that was a plus. She tilted her head and studied him for a minute wondering if he what he was noticing about her.

"The same." Nashton spoke without missing a beat. He hadn't really looked at the things that were suggested for them to talk about, just that they should. What Eudora's parents had suggested wasn't far from what his parents would have. The girl wouldn't know the difference.
"You look nice." He complimented. Girls liked to be told they were pretty. It tended to make conversations with them easier to sit through when they thought he notices, "I like your hair." Like a record. These were the kind of things he'd been taught to do his whole life. Be nice to girls, especially pure blooded one s that might end up being your wife. He'd failed at that the first time they'd met. Oh. Maybe he'd apologize for that later, once they played enough date nights. He was unsure why she was staring at him the way she was.

Eudora nodded. "Okay. You have how many siblings?" Dora looked up at the man who going to be her husband. Nashton's father wasn't known for being monogamous. Not that her family was known for being the best pureblooded family around. Pandora was the cause for that ship to sail. Dora hadn't heard anything about his family in a while-not since that Hufflepuff caused a scene in the Great Hall. "Also, the terms of how our family will run should be discussed." No sign of emotion leaked into her voice.

Dora offered a smile to Nash, perhaps this wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to happen. "Thank you." Dora touched her hair, and allowed her hand to falter over his. She made the effort to bring her hand back to rest beside her. He should be the first one to make physical contact. Not her. "You look-" Dora faltered in her compliment to him. "The same as always." She gave him another small smile. It didn't seem like he'd remembered their date.

"Six." He answered, "Legitimate. There are many more that aren't, which I'm sure you've heard." This was part of the reason that a match was needed. Nashton's mother was particularly desperate, wanting to remain in the good graces of the Yaxely family, as Lor McAdams had been terrible, managing to sleep with anything that had breasts and a heartbeat, likely. "Twenty-four illegitimate. Mothers range from the purest of blood what are probably considered the lowest of muggles." Hopefully she wasn't expecting him to sugar-coat things too much. Nashton had to put more effort into saying things nicely than normal people. Everyone else seemed to know how to be kind inherently, he had to force it. Honestly, to the boy, it was like the most undesirable chore he ever could have been cursed to have to live with his whole life. He would probably enjoy his fingernails being pulled out with pliers more. But things were what they were.
It hadn't occurred to him yet, that the girl may be at all concerned about him following in his father's footsteps. If it was a concern for her, it would be best if she would mention it one of the times they were to get together, even tonight wouldn't be too soon.
She thanked him. Customary. Was she trying to touch his hand? The boy was unsure how he should react. It was usually the man who was the first to do something even as small as that. She should have no qualms about him being disrespectful here. However, if she was looking for affection in any way, she would likely be starved for life. Poor, poor girl.
She attempted to compliment him, he forced a smile. It was probably, as always, terrifying to look at, "Thank you." Once again, customary. He didn't mind looking normal.
"As for how our family will be run." He shrugged, "I figure mostly how you are used to a family being run." It would be easiest for her that way. Nash was able to adapt, seeing as he really didn't care much about anything, anyway, he could just go wit.. whatever.

Eudora stared at the ground shocked. Six siblings and twenty-four half siblings. Taking a deep breath Pandora nodded. "I have heard, I never knew the extent;but I'd heard the rumors." Dora shook her head, was she not good enough to be married into a respectable family? "So we need to do damange control on your name?" That seemed like the best thing to do, or at least that's what Dora thought.

Eudora looked at Nash, they were to run the family the way she was used to it being ran? "How generous of you." Dora watched as he didn't react at all to her hand. Nothing. Perhaps he was shy? That's what Dora was hoping, although she had a feeling that wasn't the case. She had the feeling that this was how it would be all the time.

Nash's smile looked unnatural. Startling was putting it kindly. "Nash sweetie, please don't take this the wrong way, but your smile is terrifing." Eudora patted his hand in a comforting way. Everything about this date had been customary up until this point. "You don't smile often do you?" Eudora's voice was full of concern, it would be a long marriage if he didn't have a sense of humor.

"Not on my name, but on my father's." He was very indifferent in tone, like usual, "Infidelity is not a thing you will ever have to worry about from myself." Or.. well.. any kind of any fidelity. Nash was sure that he was uninterested in sharing a bed with any other being in general, even if it was his wife.
"It shouldn't be too difficult. Children will only be a factor if you chose to have them, so you will only have to worry about the servants, and house elves- if you are accustomed to using them." His family had quite a few house elves, but not every pureblooded family used them. His mother had needed to acquire many as Nash grew, seeing as the ones that attended to him often found themselves having a sock or a mitten handed to them directly from him. Nash didn't know what it was like to be free in life. He'd always kind of been locked in his own prison of no emotion and pureblood control. To see the look in their eyes when they were set free? It was often just to get a glimpse of happiness; something he rarely witnessed as a child in his home, and had been very intrigued by.
Nash nodded at her observation, "I hear it's generally unpleasant to look at." It was forced because it was unnatural for him to smile in general, so, the smile itself was always unnatural. He was not offended by what she said in the least, "I am told often I should practice it more in the mirror. I think that is a waste of time and energy." Especially when everyone arranged everything for him, like his marriage. "I apologize for the sight." Though it was something she'd need to get used to.

Eudora took a deep breath. Damange control was what she was good at, it was the sole reason Pandora hadn't been disowned. "Often times pureblood families hold children responsible for their parents actions. You are no different. I will not marry into a family that has a tarnished name from the generation before." Eudora said all this as if she was discussing the weather, a pleasant-if forced smile was upon her face. This time she really did reach out and touch Nash's hand. "I will hold you to your word."

Nash spoke as if they had a choice in whether they would have children. The two teenagers didn't have a choice in who they were going to marry, and they certaintly didn't have a choice in carrying on the McAdams' name. "House elves...we had some in the past, very devoted little things aren't they?" Perhaps his hadn't been, but from what Eudora could remember they were always very kind and helpful.

Nash had no sense of humor. None. Eudora's heart fell, and she nodded listening to his apology. "Perhaps if you were to smile more in day to day life. That way it's not a waste of time, but you're still practicing?" Dora offered a shy smile.

Nash nodded his head. Eudora reached for his hand once more as she acknowledged his promise. It was true.. but if she wanted children, they would never be his. She touched his hand and he seemed confused, "I am accustomed to having it be myself who is to reach for your hand first. I haven't done that yet." He wasn't exactly scolding her, either. More like he was curious as to how she would have forgotten such a simple rule? If she wished to break them, he would actually feel a bit more comfortable being open with her about certain ideas he wanted to express, so that they would happen outside of the boundaries that had been set by their ancestors. Once they were married, of course.
"Seemed more like slaves to me, mostly." He shrugged nonchalantly. At least they had been in his experience. Still, there was a fascination with their joy as they were set free for him. There were two specifically that had been with their family for a couple generations. One had been moved to his brother's care. Nashton doubted Adrian's ability to care to be kind to a house elf, but it was none of his business. He'd given up setting them free long ago once it became common knowledge that he was the one doing it. There was quite a harsh punishment for it. Nash would be glad to never have to experience such a thing ever again in his life.
"Perhaps if I had a real reason to smile throughout the day." That was highly unlikely.

Eudora stared at Nash, heat flooding her cheeks. Everything from earlier today seemed to wash down on her all at once. The Kahn girl's words rung loud and clear in her head, everyone seemed to think she was weak and stupid for getting herself into this mess in the first place. But Pandora needed Dora to be the 'good' child, the one who obeyed. If only to keep her parent's attention away from Pandy, away from the fact that Pandy had turned into everything they despised. Eudora wasn't doing this to better herself or her family, but for her sister who still needed protecting. Dora was stuck between a rock and a hard place.

A slow tear rolled down her cheek, and she just stared at Nash. Why was it so wrong to hold her future husband's hand? "I'm sorry. I didn't realize we were following the courtship rules to a tee." Eudora had long ago let go of Nash's hand.

Eudora stared at Nash, "You don't find any joy in the day, or anything funny ever?" Eudora reached over and grabbed her bag perhaps a potion would help out Nash's sense of humor. Pulling out a book Eudora scanned the book for something to help Nash. Nothing was mentioned about helping someone find a sense of humor.

Somehow or another, he had said something that made Eudora upset. She expressed her reason for it, then, and he relaxed. The boy had not even realized that he'd gotten tense at the sight of her crying. She'd pulled her hand away. Would it make her feel better if he held her hand? "I apologize." He said, once more, this time reaching for the hand she'd retracted. He'd found no real reason for her to cry over what he'd said, but if it would make her feel better, then that's what he'd do. It wasn't really so much that he cared for her to be or not to be upset, but rather, just to duty. As her soon-to-be husband, seeing the girl cry reminded him of seeing his mother cry, and he didn't really want to have an unhappy household. He must have said something particularly uncaring. He didn't need to make things worse for her than it already was.
"I find joy often in the day." He responded, "If there is something you could say I'm fond of, it's observing people experiencing emotions, and joy would likely be my favorite. It's a foreign thing to me."
They were talking a lot about himself. Maybe talking about her family would get her to not cry. It would be good to change the subject. "And why has your family decided to give mine the honor of marrying their daughter off to someone like myself?" Flattery worked well, very often, it seemed. He decided that now couldn't hurt, right?

Eudora felt Nash's hand on hers and offered a small smile towards him. "It should be me appologizing. I'm the one who wa www.out of line." He was trying at least to make her happy, that much was obvious. Swallowing Eudora quickly wiped at her eyes, before showing Nash her full attention. He seemed to have tensed up for a moment, and Eudora wanted to make sure he was okay. She studied him for a moment and decided that he was obviously not physically hurt, nor did he look distressed for any reason.

Eudora listened to him, and her heart went out to the boy. Did he not feel any sort of emotion, ever? Was it so bad that he watched others to gain an understanding of emotions? Eudora frowned slightly, but only nodded as Nash spoke about watching joy, never expirencing it himself. "Nashton?"Eudora was worried for her future husband. This was not normal, not normal at all.

Suddenly Nash was offering a compliment to Dora. Once again Dora's cheeks tinted pink with a blush. "Thank you." Dora turned and faced Nash full on. "It's a mutual honor." Nash's father may have tarnished their family name slightly, but the McAdams were still better off in the pureblood society than her family, which is why she was engaged to him.

Dora blew air out of her cheeks. Nashton wanted to know about her family. "My parents are married, there are no other children besides my twin. The only slightly discomforting thing about my family, is the amount of people they disown." Eudora stared down at her hand, Pandora would join that list of people. Eudora turned and faced her future husband.

Nashton really didn't know how to respond. It just wasn't what he was expecting from her. "Apology accepted." He said, tone careful and presentable. There was no sense in insisting, it really had been her fault, and he didn't have the energy to go back and forth. It wasn't going to make this conversation any easier, anyway.
"Joy, and happiness, are easy. People are more agreeable while they are in those moods." This was all probably very obvious to Eudora, who likely experienced the different levels of joy. "I have a more difficult time with anger and sadness. Not because they move me in any way, but because people who are sad or angry tend to take it out on those around them, and it creates more problems than solves them." Like his father had, in protest to his arranged marriage, created twenty-four illegitimate children. There was no logic in such rash decisions. Nashton was often thankful that he didn't need to experience emotions for that reason, but he also knew that from an outside look in, he could offer no real solace to those around him who did. People like his mother, who cried often because of her husband's lack of love and respect for her. Nash, even as a child, could not comfort the woman. He didn't know how to, and when he tried, his mother could see right through him and to his extensive training. It was like they'd known from birth that there was something seriously wrong with him, and his own mother would reject when he attempted to comfort her. Though Nash never gave up simply because it was the proper thing to do, he knew that he himself would never understand the way someone normal would,
She blushed again. It was mutual? Though he had no reason to suspect her of lying to him, he seriously doubted it. His family was broken, and they needed to rise and act as though they were still intact and would continue to grow strong.
Disown. Yes, he knew about that. His family did things like that as well. It seemed it was always for reasons that might not need to matter, but somehow they did. He figured that he might misunderstand their actual reasons, but to disown five of your own children, even to someone who cared very little if at all about the people around them, seemed slightly ridiculous. Did everyone do that? "People like your sister?" One thing Nashton was was observant. McKelvey was a halfblood. If the Abels insisted on arranged marriages between purebloods, he doubted that they were pleased about the Ravenclaw and Griffyndor being together. That was, if they even knew.

Eudora nodded as she listened carefully, taking mental notes on everything Nashton said. He didn't feel emotions. Swallowing Eudora nodded again. "You don't feel any emotions, so of course it's easier to deal with happy emotions." If it was his expirence to only know emotions by those around him, then he wouldn't know how good it felt to scream into a pillow, or laugh over a joke, or cry. Eudora felt terrible for the boy. Nashton was highly intelligent, he would know that he was different, and being different in a pureblood family was never easy.

Nashton nodded when she mentioned disownment. Obviously he would know of it, most pureblood families did. She looked down at her hands, then snapped her head up when Pandora was mentioned. Of course Nashton would know of Pandora's reputation. It didn't change the fact that Eudora became very cold. "Pandora is not disowned." At least not yet. Eudora started to add more onto the statement but stopped herself.

Nashton nodded at Eudora's statement. She was right, though probably knew it from her experience of dealing with the anxiety that came with being around unhappy people. It would be deeper, something that Nash knew he could not begin to grasp.

The tone of her voice seemed to alert to him that she was annoyed, "I apologize." He responded automatically, "It was not my intention to offend you, or your sister." The Ravenclaw didn't need to hear anymore to know that Pandora was keeping her relationship a secret from the Abels. That being the case, Dave McKelvey Jr. would not be someone to mention if he came into contact with their parents. "I'm sure she knows she should be careful." Not that he cared much. Though if the twin was known to be a blood traitor, that may be enough for his mother to break the engagement.

What else were they to discuss? Children. They were still children. It seemed ridiculous to have to be discussing these things with her now. "Though it's expected of us to continue this line," It was a shame that this conversation was necessary, "I don't plan on sleeping in the same room with you, let alone bed." That was simple. "I do not expect you to be happy with that arrangement, so I will encourage you to find happiness elsewhere." He knew he had no desire to have children at all, nor take part in anything dealing with making them. He figured it would be best for him to come out and say it from the beginning. Things like this could be nasty to learn much later on. If she wanted children, and to have them respectfully, then she might have some luck getting herself out of this marriage. "I am willing to raise any children that come from you as my own." If she wished to stay, though he couldn't imagine why she would.

Eudora was slightly surprised when Nashton appologized. The girl looked down at her lap, not wanting to let Nashton see her surprise. Numerous times she'd had that emotion used against her. Part of her wanted to nod and say she forgave him, but a bigger part kept her head down.

Eudora listened carefully as Nashton practically told her she was revolting enough to never want to sleep with. Logically Dora could understand that it wasn't really Nashton's fault- it probably had something to do with his lack of emotions. He continued to say that Eudora should find comfort in another man's arms. Slowly Eudora looked up. "And when they get to be our age? When they find out you're not their father?" Eudora shook her head and sighed. The older Abel twin had always assumed she would have children, but if that was the only way she wouldn't. "Or if they don't have dark hair and dark eyes? How would we explain that to our families?" Eudora covered her face with her hands. This situation was the absolute worst thing that could have happened. Dora wasn't dumb, she understood Nashton wouldn't love her, but she had hoped that children would be in her future. Nash had made it clear that children were not going to be in the picture.

Those were good questions. Ones that Nashton currently did not have answers for currently. The children did not have to attend Hogwarts, they also may not do the study that they did today by the time their children were their age. He also didn't know if Professor Schultz would have a job here still, or even be alive. Especially after the amount of lies that had been unearthed about many of the powerful pureblooded families earlier in the day. "I doubt we'd ever have to worry about such a thing." He responded simply, confident in the pureblood community's ability to strike down an issue when it came along. Though nash found himself very often opposed to the views of the families he came from, there were some good things to having supposedly pure blood.

"Genetics are a different story. However, there are lighter haired and eyed people in my family tree. Are there some in yours? " That would easily take care of that. "If you do not, we could adopt a baby or however many you would like. We could fake each pregnancy. If they happen to be squibs, then that is what they are. It is not uncommon in my family for that to happen." Or theirs, as the Abel twins had only recently discovered that they were both witches, and not squibs themselves. That would give them more time to pretend a child still could be a witch or wizard.

There would be a difference in the way that a child would be raised if they were a squib than they had been in his home, however. In his own lack of care and love, he felt confident in Eudora's ability to support a child in such a situation. To have been looked at as a failure for so long by her own family, there was no doubt in his mind that the girl would be an understanding and helpful to any child that might not make the cut. It wasn't like they would have chosen it. It was too bad that Nashton had no pity for squibs, himself. The only ones that he had ever known had been nothing but miserable and hateful towards him.

Like he'd chosen to be a wizard while they would never be.

"Is there anything else you would like to discuss?" He pulled his hand away, "Or are we done for the night? I have some work to do." Like they hadn't been on lockdown earlier.

Eudora sighed and shook her head. It may be a petty thing to Nash, but Eudora wanted her child. Her own flesh and blood, a baby of hers. However, now was not the time to convence Nashton of what she wanted. Instead of bringing up her wants, Eudora kept quiet and listened to his hairbrained scheme of faking pregnancies, and adoption. "There are no blonde people in my family; at least none that I know of." With so many people being disowned there was a high chance that there was a blonde person in her family that she didn't know.

Eudora looked away when Nash pulled his hand away. He was so blunt, straight to the point. At least she wouldn't ever have to guess at what he meant, or wanted out of her. Slowly Eudora shook her head. "I can't think of anything else. I'm sure there will be other dates to talk about what we've missed." Eudora folded her hands on her lap. "Go do what you need too. Goodbye Nashton." Eudora grabbed her bookbag and began reading the potions book that she had checked out the library. Already Eudora was beggining to plan a way to allow Nashton to feel his emotions.

HIRP now has a Common Knowledge, Recent Events, and Rumours thread, which contains all the information that your characters should know having grown up in our world. Please be sure to check it out and feel free to use the knowledge in character. If you have suggestions for minor characters who might be well known, please contact a staff member.
