Brookes morning so far had been less than interesting, but more relaxing than your average Hogwarts day. She had gotten a letter from her father asking for her to send any information she got about the wedding back to him. He wasn’t a ministry official, but the information could have been useful for his next book. Brooke made a mental note to write down whatever she heard about it during the day and owl it back to him on the night. But surely when the student actually returned she would get some actual details on what went down and the traditions. For now though she was able to enjoy a day away from the studying and stress of exams. She had somehow ended up walking into Madam Puddifoot's, which probably wasn’t the best decision due to the fact it was Valentine’s Day. But Brooke shrugged it off it didn’t matter that she was alone here. Who cared? Slipping onto one of the only tables available she pulled out a newly purchased novel and opened the pages up. She couldn’t help but sniff the pages and smile, new book smell was always the best. She assumed that it would probably be present in amortentia potions. Ordering a cup of tea Brooke waited for the drink to arrive as she started her new book, ignoring the sloppy kissing noises of couples around her. |

Lisbeth entered Madam Puddifoot's more than a little hesitantly. It was the stupidest place to go on Valentine's Day... when you didn't have a date. On a positive note, literally no one she knew would step foot in this dainty ass tea shop. Or whatever it was. All of the tables were taken? Except for one... which had a Ravenclaw girl about two years her senior. It would probably be really presumptuous to go up and sit with her? She was, after all, sitting and reading... Surely there was somewhere else Lis could grab a bite to eat without getting approached by Beck, Billie... or having to see Ryan and Castor. "Hey," She greeted the older girl, after having been told the approximate wait time for a table, "Bet you'd just kill to have an ipod and a decent set of earphones right about now." What were the chances that this girl actually knew about those things? Probably pretty slim. "Can't be easy to read with all the mackin' going on around you." Or with some stranger talking your ear off. "You know they couldn't given me an exact wait time on a table here, seems all the couples get a bit caught up... Or something." This was stupid. Yet somehow better than going to The Hippogryph, or The Three Broomsticks. It wasn't like she was asking to sit, she could probably get a sandwich to go, or something. She just felt awkward standing waiting for the waitress, and talking with this Ravenclaw didn't seem like it would be all too terrible? Lis was trying to be a bit more outgoing. She had been once, hadn't she? Now she second guessed herself at every turn. |

It was a difficult task, attempting to read while couples whispered and giggled around you. But Brooke fought on against the noise of lips locking and glasses clinking together. However it seemed impossible to make it past the first page without a noise distracting her and throwing her off the scent of the story. Brooke looked up from her book to a younger girl and offered a smile. “Hey.” When she mentioned an ipod Brooke nodded quickly, her mother had mentioned this in passing before. Although Brooke had never used one or seen one in the flesh, she knew what one was. Just about anyway. “I just want to bash some of their heads together and ask them how long they think it will last.” Brooke allowed herself to smirk just a little bit, wondering if any of the couples overheard her comment. “Come sit with me then, if anyone asks this is the second date and it isn’t going too well.” Brooke winked before letting out a small laugh. She wondered what the sense of humour of this girl was like. Picking up her tea, she took a quick sip before placing it back down on the table and closing her book. She could read later, the longer the silence lasts the more awkward it could possibly become. Silences could be comfortable, but Brooke found those type of silences came with a mutual understanding or friendship to back it up. |

Oh, that was sort of scary. Almost like Billie, a little. Lis looked out around at the couples and shrugged. Earlier in the year, this would have likely been her. No, it wasn't like she'd had an actual boyfriend, or anything. Just guys using her for one reason or another. It seemed one couple had overhead the older girl. The one guy looked to his boyfriend and they scowled over it for a few minutes, muttering something along the lines of 'bitter hag' before deciding they were far too happy to be concerned by it. Lisbeth shook her head and almost laughed. "Watch it, they'll chase you out with heart tipped pitch forks." What? No kidding? It certainly seemed a better offer than getting a sandwich to go and finding some empty bench to eat it on. Lis's lips twisted into a slight smirk as she sat across from the older girl. Clearly it had been meant as a joke... Right. "Not going well, just my luck," The Slytherin remarked, as Brooke closed her book. Her bright eyes followed the motion of the older girl's hand, scanning the title of the book before flitting back up to eye level. "Are you just not interested in younger women?" This seemed like a fun game, she was willing to play along. Besides, it wasn't as though they had anything else to talk about. If things weren't going well between them, it probably had more to do with the fact that they didn't even know each other's names. |

Brooke looked over to the couple who were muttering about a bitter hag, obviously her. But she just smiled and turned back to the girl in front of her, she was the sister of one of the Gryffindor boys. Brooke didn’t know which one; they were all the same to her. Throwing themselves out there and acting with pride, plus they all had booming voices which tended to get on her nerves. There were a few exceptions, like the Weasley boy in the year above. He was more interesting. “Bitter hag eh? Making judgement on others opinions obviously roots from a deep insecurity about their own relationship.” Brooke sipped her tea, it may not be true but it would surely ruffle their feathers. She laughed as Lis’s remark, nodding her head then leaning forward on the table. “Well it could change.” Brooke shrugged, this was becoming interesting. Brooke wouldn’t remember speaking to a Slytherin girl before, many of them seemed a certain way which made them very unapproachable. But today all those girls were gone and now she could converse with other Slytherin girls who could have been otherwise isolated. “I don’t know what I’m interested in. Going along with the whole romance thing.” Brooke waved her hand around, ordering another tea and almost knocking a cup from a girls hand. Instead of apologising, Brooke turned back to Lisbeth and grinned. “Maybe the younger girl isn’t for me. Is the older girl something for you?” |

The Slytherin smiled a little sheepishly, unsure of the interaction between the Ravenclaw and the two boys she was mocking. Lis was quite judgmental herself, or had been. The two boys didn't seem to realize that Brooke was still talking about them. "The more they cling onto each other, the more insecure they are." She agreed, unthinkingly, but only after it became apparent that the couple wasn't paying attention to them. Or, were pretending not to pay attention? Lis thought about her parents. They didn't seem to see that much of each other, and certainly not alone. Their marriage certainly seemed to be a strong one... but what did Lis really know about either of them? "I guess I'll know how I'm doing if you pick the book back up." The Slytherin laughed and shrugged. It really wasn't that important? Lisbeth wondered how someone could be unsure of their interests. There were quite a few thing that this particular Elliot was uncertain of, but not what she was interested in. The younger girl grimaced in fear as Brooke nearly swatted a cup clear out of someone's hand. "Nothing quite so specific," Lis admitted, trying not to think how her mother was the sort to wave her hands about and almost knock something over. (Though she would apologize profusely.) She managed to order a sandwich before the waitress disappeared. "I guess I like people that make me nervous." Did that make any sense at all? That grin made her a bit nervous, but most human interaction tended to give her slight anxiety these days. "I hear it's possible to not be interested in anything at all, or anyone," Lis shrugged, wondering what that would be like, "But I haven't met anyone who was...n't?" |

Brooke nodded, it was the truth though. Insecurity is something which is shown through actions and expressions, even though someone can claim they are confident the twitch in their eyes or the face they walk with their head bowed down speaks for them. Words can lie; expressions and body gestures have more of a truth to them. That was why controlled people were untrustworthy, there is hardly any way to tell if they speak the truth or are trying to deceive you. Ivy glanced back over to the book and let herself shrug, she could read that when she got back to the common room. Conversing with a Slytherin was much more interesting at this current moment. “You’re doing well so far.” Ivy complimented with a small smile. She received another cup of tea and thanked the waitress. She looked down to her nails and decided that she would need to paint them green when she got back, at least he gave her something else to do for the day. Brooke then nodded. “Withdrawing yourself from society and social interaction is common for people going through something, or people who are a closed book.” Ivy answered, she then let out a small laugh and shook her head. “God, I sound like my dad. Bloody hell.” Ivy shook her head and then shrugged. Part of her was glad to sound like her father, but then on the other hand it made her feel old. And feeling old when she was only sixteen was not a good thing. |

Lis grinned a little brighter than she had since entering the shop. It was a silly thing, no doubt. Likely just good manners on her part, or politeness. Still, the Slytherin found herself rather admiring this older girl's poise; her general attitude of disassociation. She just seemed so uninterested. Bored. Or maybe Lisbeth was reading a little too much into it. The Slytherin wrapped an arm around her stomach; having some experience to which Brooke was referring. It was only recently she had started to force herself back into social interaction. A tentative smile at the Ravenclaw's laughter. "At least your father sounds half intelligent." Lisbeth attempted to encourage, though her tone was slightly sardonic. She rarely ever sounded like her father, who was all zen and optimism. Lis supposed she was more like her mother, and every once in awhile she would bubble about in a similar manner. Although, no one ever wanted to be like their parents. Except Beck, who seemed to idolize both of them... somehow. "I thought someone who was a 'closed book' was the sort of person you didn't really understand, even after having spent time with them." Lis was an open book, her emotions on her sleeve plainly for all to see. "Mysterious people." Her tone was a bit more impish, although her expression turned a bit more disgusted upon realizing that Castor fucking Grengrass was one such person. "I guess it's sort of fun, though. Not knowing everything about someone." Lis paused, her tongue ran along her upper lip in brief embarrassment. How very like her mother. |

Brooke nodded in agreement, her father was rather intelligent. Although he had to be for the job he did. Ivy sometimes wondered whether her father would prefer to write more fiction books, but he was much like her. A thirst to knowledge and the need to write down everything he discovered shoved him firmly into the non-fiction books. And it started with the student books, maybe when she graduated then he would be writing reports for higher level learning or something like that. Brooke wouldn’t be surprised. “He had to be to be a textbook author.” She laughed. “A lot of people are like that though. But with different subjects.” Brooke raised her eyebrows before bringing the freshly hot tea to her lips. She sipped it from the cup and then placed it back down onto the table. “Some people will talk for days about their relationships and emotions but then never utter a word about their families or goals.” It seemed more mysterious with those who didn’t speak about how they were feeling though, but that was just as mysterious as someone who never spoke about their families. In Brooke’s opinion anyway, which was probably different to the girl in front of her. But that was what made conversations interesting, a difference of opinions and the sharing of thoughts. |

An author. Lis was no writer. If anyone could write, it would be Ryan, who always had her nose stuck in one book or another. The Slytherin wasn't particularly fond of reading, it required far too much stillness. Drawing was the same, but normally she just scribbled on her notes during class. The few times she'd deliberately sat down and actually drawn something, her tattoos for instance, had been less fun. It wasn't ever something she wanted to do with her life. At least she knew what she didn't want to do. Now, if only she could narrow down the countless possibilities. "Anything I'd know about?" Was he a writer for the magical world? Or the muggle one? Brooke had nodded when she'd mentioned an iPod, but... Lis smiled a crooked smile at the waitress when her food arrived. Everyone was mysterious? No, she didn't believe that. Beck wasn't like that at all. The Slytherin's eyebrows drew together momentarily. Or was he? No one really seemed to understand his infatuation with his girlfriend. If Lis had to guess, she would pin it on his pride. Although that was her more cynical nature. Obviously there had to be something there? "Sometimes people don't have goals to talk about," She murmured, before catching herself and grinning, "Some people don't talk about themselves at all," Those were few and far between, "I wonder if it's because they don't care to sway people's opinions of them." How nice it would be, to not care what people thought of you. "I guess that wouldn't make much sense." There were plenty of reasons people wouldn't talk about themselves. Assuming that they were somehow self enlightened was ridiculous. |

“He writes textbooks which are usually in Hogwarts; you’ve probably used a few.” Brooke said, finishing off her tea and then ordering herself a chocolate muffin. Her stomach was now growling and the smell of food which was circling around the little café. She ordered another tea to go along with the muffin, knowing that she would probably need to dash to the loo at some point. Especially if she went for a fourth cup after the muffin. Looking over at Lisbeth’s food, Brooke felt her stomach growl again. “I guess not.” Brooke only had the goal of finding out about the wedding, and that was because of her father’s research. She didn’t feel like thinking into the future and about her current goals at that moment, so she didn’t. She just listened to the Slytherin in front of her and nodded every so often. “It could be that.” She paused. “Or they could be very private, or even worried about sharing their own opinions and likes and such.” Although Brooke liked to give off the appearance that she didn’t care, she knew that somewhere inside she actually did. This girl was interesting, and Ivy cared about whether the girl found her the same. It wasn’t something that she liked to think about though, especially seeing as she could be quite blunt at times even when thinking through what to actually say. So she just nodded. “Unrealistic as well, I suppose.” |
