Hope. Death. Anger. But not love. Never love. Kenna did not love. She loved her family, yes, but not young teenage love. She just didn't get it. Why would people run around in love, so happy when love is nothing but a lie? Shrugging, Kenna locked the thought away and focused on her homework. She had of course, finished herbpotions homework with ease; Now she was working on her arithmancy. It didn’t take long to finish that either, so she looked around the common room lazily. No one else was there. Sighing, Kenna lay back against the couch and looked up at the ceiling. Bored, she traced the couch with her fingers, letting the fibres fray and spike slightly at the heat. She had to concentrate unfortunately, despite it being just something to buy time, because she didn't think the head of house would really appreciate her burning down the couch. Plus, she didn’t really feel like being hunted down for being an elementium. She saw a couple burn marks form on the couch, and carefully pulled away. When Kenna started burning things, she knew that she was concentrating too much on her ability, that or she wasn’t concentrating enough. It required balance; perfect balance.

Imogen walked into the Ravenclaw common room with slight relief, she had been down to Hogsmeade early and had gotten everything she wanted. Now she could come back to the common room and relax until the ball that night. Imogen didn’t have a date or anything, she didn’t really plan on going to the event, and she was thinking that it would be nice to have the common room mostly to herself and possibly Monica. The thought of seeing Noah and Allison happily dancing and kissing made her want to throw up in the punch. Even though she spoke to him now every so often she still couldn’t get over his little love nest. A dull pain sprung to her thigh, she pressed her fingers over it and sighed. It was as though her body wanted to remember Noah saving her. She frowned, grabbing her bobble with her fingers and yanking it out of her hair. She pushed her bobble into her pocket and quickly sat down in one of the single blue chairs. Imogen dropped the book onto her lap and pulled out her bottle of water taking a quick sip. Screwing the bottle cap on Imogen looked to the girl sat on the other sofa; she offered a smile as a hello and then looked to the cover of her book. Where was Monica? |

Kenna noticed a girl come in, and instinctively shuffled over to cover up the burn marks on the couch. When she saw the girl offer a smile, Kenna weakly mirrored it back. She recognized the girl from classes, she was the same grade as her. "Hello." Kenna said conversationally. "I'm Kenna." she went on to say. She knew it would be polite to offer her hand to shake, but she was afraid that her hand would still be heated. It had happened before and left people suspicious, so now Kenna just masked it up as if she was someone who just didn't like shaking hands. Out of the corner of her eye, Kenna noticed another burn mark and shifted her homework onto the spot, grimacing a bit when the paper crinkled a tad at the leftover heat.

Imogen looked up from her book as the other girl said a hello. Imogen didn’t really expect to be spoken to but at least this girl seemed friendly, a lot of the Ravenclaw types weren’t too interested in small talk. “Hey” Imogen said back, leaning back into the chair and crossing one leg over her other. It was more than warm within the room so she took another sip of her water, maybe it would cool her down. Imogen recognised the girls name and nodded, she was in her year and in a few of her classes. They didn’t run in the same crowds though. “I’m Imogen, you alright? Seem to be shuffling around a lot.” Imogen smiled and watched the girl before turning to her book and opening it up. Inside there were doodles and a list of what chapters she needed to read, a lot of the list was crossed off though. She smiled; she would be ready for the exams when it was time. She had to ace them, there was no second option. |

Kenna nodded when the girl said her name was Imogen. Kenna immediately stopped shuffling when it was brought up. ”No, I’m fine.” she said quickly. It’s not look she could say, ‘Sorry I burnt the couch and am trying to hide the marks’. Not really something you bring up in a conversation. ”So what subjects do you take?” Kenna asked conversationally, wanting to get off the topic of her shuffling. She had been able to avoid questioning when the elementium control office came in, because she hadn’t told or shown anybody. She had burnt people accidently before, so they might be suspicious, but there was no evidence against her. And she wanted to keep it that way. She sat up straight, trying to make it less obvious that she was hiding something, but in the process accidently sent her homework flying onto the floor. Damn my stupid clumsiness she thought to herself as she subtly looked at the exposed burn mark on the couch. She wasn’t surprised if the girl also noticed the wrinkles in the homework that had gone flying. |

Imogen watched the girl for a few moments before slowly nodding and looking back down to her book. “That’s good then.” She quickly commented with a slight smile, her head was elsewhere though. Stuck on the thought of her aunt and new found cousins and well… new found family. She had spent most of her life thinking she had no family, that she was an orphan with no aunts or uncles and now she had a grandfather and more than one aunt and on top of that they wanted her to go into the ministry and find information about her missing other aunt. It was all so much. At one point she had wondered whether to tell anyone about her ability, but then she realised that she aunt wasn’t someone she could trust. The woman was on the dark side of everything, she had even heard the woman speaking about murders to her grandfather. Her family were stuck in the foundations of old pureblood living, while she was raised as an orphan with no blood prejudice. But the thing was that her aunt knew this and knew she had been raised in a different environment, so what did the woman plan for her? Imogen was jolted out of her thoughts by a simple question. She paused, her nails digging into the book before she closed it. “What don’t I take is the real question…” She let out a half-hearted laugh. “Most things really, it would be too long to list. I only took off one or two lessons.” Imogen shrugged and smiled. “I don’t take ruins or muggle studies, or astronomy. But everything else I do. What about you?” |

The door to the Ravenclaw common room flew open, and Jane Holloway barged inside, shopping bags from various Hogsmeade shops hanging off her arms. Her blonde hair was piled atop her head, a pair of black skinny jeans on her legs and a plain, white t-shirt on her body that was so big it hung off her shoulder. Immediately, her eyes fell upon the two girls in the room, busy in conversation. Jane sipped from her smoothie cup and burped. "Hey," she greeted them, trudging forward on aching feet. She collapsed onto an armchair, heaving a great sigh of relief. "Anything going on?" She asked breathlessly, crossing her legs. "I just got back from Hogsmeade. Went shopping for the dance tonight, ya know?" She grinned mischievously. "Dean bought me all of this stuff. He just loves me." Jane usually wasn't the type to brag, but most of her life had been spent envying girls that were richer, prettier, skinnier than her, so she felt entitled to gloat once in a little while. As long as she wasn't an asshole about it, right? "Any of you girls going tonight?" |

Kenna couldn't help sighing in relief when Imogen didn't notice the burn or crinckled paper. "Transfiguration, Arithmancy, Charms, Potions, Defense against the dark arts, Ancient runes and Care of Magical Creatures." Kenna listed. The only ones she didn't think useless or that she sucked at. Save for magical concepts, but she couldn't be bothered. And then a blonde burst in. Kenna didn't even have to ask to know who it was, or even who Dean was, considering they were constantly all over each other. In all honesty, the girl sort of annoyed Kenna, but she wasn't mean or anything. Just a bit annoying. Kenna shrugged when Jane asked if they were going to the ball. "I don't have anything to wear. Nor do I have a date." she said simply. The first part was a lie- she did have one pretty dress that her parents had insisted on, though she hated wearing it. It made her look like a girly girl. The second part was defiantly true- she didn't have a date nor did she want one. |

Imogen nodded as Kenna began to list her classes with ease, there were a lot there and it seemed as though they took most of the same classes. It wasn’t too much of a surprise though seeing as most people were sorted into Ravenclaw because of their drive and intelligence, although there were a few people who didn’t do well on the academic side of things but did extremely well at creative practices. Everyone in Ravenclaw was intelligent in some way; that was just how it was. Jane suddenly burst into the room with bags galore. Imogen smiled at her and shook her head. “Nothing I know about.” Imogen quickly replied uncrossing her legs and shuffling in her seat so she could lean in to the other two girls. She went on about Dean, her boyfriend, and Imogen just nodded along as though she had opinions on the pairing. She had heard a lot about the Draper family from her aunt, she said they weren’t to be trusted. But Jane seemed happy with Dean so Imogen wasn’t going to go and make some offhand comments; there was no need for them. “I’m not planning to. I don’t think it is my sort of thing.” Imogen shrugged and smiled. |

"You don't need to have a date to go!" Jane replied to Holly enthusiastically. She wrapped her pale lips around the straw and finished off her drink with an obnoxious slurrrrrp! "I don't know why girls have to feel obliged to go out with someone." The statement was slightly hypocritical on her part. "I think the point of these dances is to bring people together. A.K.A., you find someone to hook up with there." That was the purpose, wasn't it? Meet a stranger and then undress for them a few hours later. Teenagers were numb to deep connections. She pouted. "You guys are seriously no fun," Jane joked, kicking her feet up onto the arm of a chair. Her limbs ached from an unfamiliar fatigue; she wanted to sink into a scalding hot bath and relax in a bliss trance until the dance. Her outfit for the event was a simple white dress that clung to her plump body like a warm embrace. She thought the color of white made her resemble a starchy, fat cow, but Dean insisted it agreed with the golden color of her hair. Jane trusted his judgement wholeheartedly, and so she allowed him to purchase the garment so that she could wear it for him. How long until he had to pull it off? She would be counting the hours — and the drinks. He promised he would spend the entire night with her after he dealt with Moreau and their small business, to which Jane vowed to turn a blind eye. Her own personal bottle of rosy champagne laid tucked in the vast depths of her trunk. "I mean, it's not like a fancy shmancy thing or anything," she continued, smacking her lips. "I'm pretty sure you can wear whatever you want. It probably doesn't matter." She didn't know why she was attempting to persuade her housemates to attend, but a small part of her didn't want the girls to miss on the opportunities that life had to offer. For instance, Jane hadn't had a boyfriend since third year, which wasn't as serious as she perceived it to be, but she would always count him as her first love. Then, in the fourth year, Jane's brother passed, spiraling her into a deep depression that triggered an enormous weight gain. Jane swelled to the size of an elephant, and the boys avoided her as if she carried the dragon pox virus. Never again would she experience the vain bliss that accompanied a young couples' love. Until fifth year, when she shrugged off a few pounds due to her incessant sadness, and the opposite gender took notice. She was Dolores Draper before Lolita: A hungry, passionate fiend that bedded boys (and a girl!) with a simple flicker of the tongue. The names and the faces were lost in her drunk haze, but she learned to accept and love that part of herself. She admitted it: She used to be a whore, but she had loved it. How many people would willingly spit the truth? And, as if to relieve her from her suffering, in the beginning of her sixth year, Dean Draper took notice of Plain Jane, a girl trapped in a woman's body, and made her his queen. She had seized the moment. That wasn't to say she wasn't insecure of herself. She still weighed more than most of the girls in her house. She wanted to be as beautiful and dainty as Imogen Nott, or as delicate as Dolores Draper, or as immaculate as Alexandra Dupont. She saw herself as a beast that belonged to the Forbidden Forest: Her breasts were the size of pumpkins, her hips wider than the width of a door. Every time Dean touched her, she shrunk into herself, afraid that he would caress a pouch of fat and pull away in disgust. But he never did. "Hell, borrow some of my clothes if you want. There's enough to go around." |

Kenna nodded in agreement with Imogen when she said it was not her sort of thing. "I second that" she added quickly. Kenna made a bit of a face when Jane mentioned 'hooking up'. "Er... I think I'll pass up on that part..." No way was she hooking up with some random boy at the dance. "Na, it's fine. Besides, if I have to go, then I refuse to go unless in a kneazle themed onesie." she said dramatically, smirking. That would actually be a cool prank, if it didn't mean she would be publicly embarrassed. Holding back a laugh, Kenna leaned back and stared at the ceiling. "Plus, knowing Hogwarts, I bet one gallen that someone will probably die." She had come to deal with the fact that Hogwarts was basically a death trap, it just made it more interesting.

Imogen shrugged at Jane, it wasn’t so much of wanting a date it was just seeing so many couples all over one another. Most of them were so obnoxious, as though just because they have a significant other it means they are the god of matching people up. It seemed like most of them liked to give out unwanted advice, Imogen wasn’t really up for the ‘oh you’re so pretty you can get boyfriend’ speech which more than one girl at the school had given her. It got boring. Imogen let out a small laugh when Jane proclaimed that she was no fun. “I’m just not the hooking up type, flirting on the other hand…” Imogen let out another laugh leaning her head forward and then leaning back up to laugh a second time. Her hair almost flipped backwards, it fell against her shoulders. “Honestly I should be fine; I don’t really have anyone to speak to there.” Imogen smiled, she would rather not see Noah there with Allison. Plus the thought of actually being in a relationship didn’t appeal to her in that moment, not with everything else going on. Kenna was speaking about a onesie of some sort and Imogen recognised the term, it wasn’t something which her orphanage would allow so she really know the point of them. But when the girl mentioned death Imogen leant back in slight shock. There was a pause. “I wouldn’t joke about death; a lot of people here have lost someone.” Imogen said slowly, looking down to her fingers and pressing her nails together. Maybe for her it wasn’t as bad; she only knew the pain of growing up alone with practically no one. The orphanage never counted as family, but people like Jane who had lost a relative when they were old enough to mourn it could trigger something. |

"Yeah," Jane agreed with Imogen's statement. She fell silent, unsure if she should continue on the topic, as she herself had lost someone as well. Anxiety struck her chest. "It used to happen a lot, but it's slowed down, which I'm glad it did." Living in fear was not a way to live. People in unstable environments did not thrive. Death was indifferent to age, gender, person.... If it was going to happen, it is going to happen. Jane shook the morbid thoughts from her head. "Things seem to be going okay now that the creepy Yaxley and the pretty young Malfoy have taken over," she commented, bobbing her foot. She didn't dare mention that night, where Hell had embraced the castle. Jane and four others had witnessed the death of a fellow student, and Jane would never forget the way his face paled when his soul escaped his body. She had received counseling as a form of readjustment, but after talking about it redundantly for months, she could not release it from her memories. "It's like something out of a fucking horror movie, right? Suddenly the bad guys are good and the good guys..." Jane laid her cheek on her shoulder, pursing her lips. "Don't do anything." She snorted in laughter. "Oh my god, wait, do you guys even know what I'm talking about? Do you know what a movie is?" |

Kenna realized her mistake as soon as she saw the girls' reactions. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean it that way..." she said quickly. Kenna sighed. "I guess it's just that Hogwarts is suppose to be the safest place in the wizarding world, and yet it isn't really... Livin up to that standard." she said, taking extra time to carefully chose her words. Kenna scoffed slightly at Janes movie comparison statement. "I do." Kenna nodded. She never really watched a lot of movies growing up though, she was too busy helping her family on the property. "It does feel that way sometimes though. Ironically, here in the wizarding world, those monsters out of movies do actually exist." Kenna stated. Whenever she actually had watched movies, they were always horror movies. And now she was living in one.

Imogen glanced over at Jane and nodded slowly, everything seemed to be going at a snail’s pace right now. It was a good thing on the one hand because nothing drastically mad was happening, but at the same time it felt so normal. Hogwarts wasn’t meant to be normal, it was meant to be exciting with magic flowing from every crack. She turned back to look at Kenna, she shook her hand and smiled. “It’s fine, don’t worry about it.” Imogen turned back to Jane as she spoke about Yaxley, Imogen had seen the family during the big wedding. They seemed… unusual. Imogen thought that her own hidden family was a bit crazy but them… Yikes. She let out a small laugh when Jane compared the situation to a horror movie. “Hey, I might have grown up in an orphanage but we did get out every so often.” Imogen snorted and let out another small laugh, all she could imagine was those over the top crappy horror movies with over the top screaming and bad special effects. But that wasn’t anything like what could happen here, the thought silenced her for a moment. “We have talented professors who can help protect us and all that stuff.” Imogen picked a hair from the sofa and flicked it away onto the floor. “And the whole elementium deal…” She paused wondering whether she should have mentioned it. She still wasn’t sure what would happen to the second generation elementium if they were discovered, it seemed as though no one was too worried about it. The ministry knew that the powers weren’t as great at the first generation and it seemed that the sisterhood didn’t care much about it. “What do you guys think about it…” Imogen gulped, why did she ask that? |

Sometimes Jane forgot that her peers came from different familial backgrounds than she did: Jane was from America, Boston to be exact, where her parents raised her with high expectations as they had came from little to nothing and worked themselves to the bone to make a perfect life for the Holloway family. Imogen Nott had come from nothing but the broken shambles of an orphanage. Born with the grace of an important surname, only to be forgotten as a lost soul, left in the distance. Though Jane had heard through the grapevine that new relatives were popping up, and suddenly the girl wasn't so lonely anymore. She looked up when her dorm-mate mentioned elementium. What about it? There was first generation, and rumors circulated that there was a second. This Jane knew to be true, as Jane's best-friend, Carmen, had the light. That was all Jane knew. If there were more, who could they be? Could they be sitting in this room in that moment? Could Jane be one of them? She chewed on her lower lip. People were killed over it. Was it something to actually be envied over? Jane shrugged. "I don't know," she conceded, "I've only heard rumors and stuff. I don't know if there's any in the castle besides the professors. I think it would be cool to have, but it's not something for me." Jane paused. "I don't want to live my life in fear knowing that people would want to kill me for my power." |

Kenna nodded when Imogen mentioned the professors but then froze when Imogen mentioned the elementium. Subconsciously, she moved her hand to cover the visible burn mark. She breathed steadily, trying not to show how much the word affected her. She stopped and listened to Janes response. Kenna paused for a second, carefully structuring her words so that it would seem she was not speaking from experience before replying, "I don't think it would be really fun to have elementium powers. Being hunted for one thing. But also the fact that it can also be emotion sensitive" Kenna paused. Crap, I think I went into to much detail. She felt the couch fibres prickle slightly under her hand. "I think w-they are misunderstood"

Imogen didn’t expect much of a response from her question; it was something which was awkward to ask. Something which she never really spoke about with people other than Monica, maybe her little outburst of the question was telling her that she needed to speak to others about this. Only Monica knew of what her ability could really do, no one else did. Imogen gulped and leant back in her chair as the water beside her began to shake slightly, Imogen calmed herself and cleared her mind. The water stopped shaking. Her eyes snapped to Jane as she shrugged. The girl had supposedly only heard rumours about this, Imogen slowly nodded. Dean’s sister was an elementium, maybe she knew more than she said. Living in fear wasn’t something which Imogen focused on, maybe she was just naïve or oblivious to what people did to those with elementium abilities. Her head slowly moved to look at Kenna as she seemed to panic slightly; Imogen raised one eyebrow and looked down. “I know there are second elementium, there are some in the castle.” Imogen nodded. “I just… I just know that.” Imogen slowly said not taking her eyes from the ground. After a moment of silence she moved her head up. “I heard during the attack some girls used elementium like abilities. That’s why the Malfoy man is here, the ministry one. He is interviewing people about it.” Imogen reached her hand out and traced her nails along the side of her chair. “I don’t think people realise the power we… these people could have.” Imogen ignored the slip up, maybe if she did the others would too. |

The room sort of fell into a tense atmosphere, as if someone had told a hilarious joke and Jane had missed it. Something was underlying the silence between the three girls and Jane could taste it. She stared at the floor as the girls presented their views on the elementium situation, and Jane wondered who else would be an elementium. What if Dean was an elementium? He seemed like the ice type. And Jane, if she could choose, would be the water to go hand in hand. Her eyes averted to Imogen as the girl fumbled with her words. Freudian slip? Jane raised an eyebrow, but knew it wasn't her place to question it, especially in front of other people. "I really doubt they'll be strong though," said Jane, allowing her stands of golden hair to fall over her face. "I mean, look at Jordanna and Bellatrix. They're practically like gods and no one can really match their power." Either that or they weren't prepared to step forward yet. "I wonder who would be second generation though," the Ravenclaw mused, twisting her lips. "Probably purebloods. Of course." |

Kenna was thankful no one noticed her own slip-up, but she noticed Imogen's. Kenna looked carefully at Imogen. Was she one too? She couldn't help but shake her head at Janes idea of elementiums being pureblood. "No, there are muggleborn second generation elementium too." she said. She quickly added, "At least I think there are." Sighing, she glanced over at Imogen in wonder. The girl had almost said 'we' too. Kenna wasn't going to ask in front of Jane, of course, but maybe she would later. "It's not safe for them to come forward yet though. Especially not while the ministry is here trying to catch us at the act" she said, not noticing her own slip up.
