Lisbeth wasn't sure why, but she had always preferred the courtyard to the student lounge. Maybe because it was closer to her common room... Still, she had only been coming here recently. Even after that night when Jason Voorhees had crawled from the shadows, intent on murder. Even after that last conversation she'd had with Robin. The Slytherin didn't relate herself to those things, how could she? Those things had happened to someone else. The memories were so distorted, there was no way they could have only been from earlier in the year. She would walk calmly across the floor to the seat that she always sat on. It felt secluded, placed in between foliage as it was. Almost like no one else was in the room with her. There was a spot on the floor that she pretended not to pause at every time, where she been met with a choice. Life, the universe had asked her, or death? Lis had chosen incorrectly and had been given a rare chance to try again. So why did she continue to wonder what her choice would be if the situation was recreated? Lisbeth didn't consider herself suicidal. Or even depressed, really. If there was a button, she sometimes found herself thinking, that would quietly erase her presence from the world, she wouldn't hesitate to press it. The Slytherin supposed it was a selfish thing. She knew that people cared about her, but it didn't really have anything to do with that. She didn't know what it had to do with. A cat brushed past her legs, giving new reason to the rapid palpitations of her heart. Proper reason. "Rook," Lis pulled the grey tabby onto her lap, "How do you keep getting out of the common?" How had she come this far without noticing him? He was just a kitten still, and purchased from that strange beast's shop... She wondered, sometimes, if he was smarter than an average cat. "I came here to review, not to walk back and forth between the dungeons." Her hand stroked absently through the soft fur. Rook seemed unperturbed as Lisbeth pulled a textbook out of her bag, even as the petting stopped so that she might hold the book properly. The warm glob on her legs seemed to chase away any negative thoughts, and she was thankful for it. |

Booker made his way outside. He wasn't feeling particularly hungry right now, and was looking to avoid the stifling feeling of the great hall for a bit. The Hufflepuff didn't mind people, normally. He figured everybody probably needed a break here and there, so he wasn't alone. Finding Lis when he came out wasn't all that surprising, however, seeing Rook with her was different. He hadn't seen the little cat since the Slytherin had bought him. "He's getting big." The boy commented with a grin growing on his face. He watched Lis pet the kitten, who hadn't noticed him yet. Booker got down on the ground, hoping to get the cat's attention. After a few moments, the boy laughed, "He is really loyal to you, too." The two of them hadn't talked much about the events that had led to Lisbeth buying the kitten. "You needed some fresh air, huh?" He finally asked the girl, having given up his attempt to call the cat over. He stood up and walked a bit closer to pet the him. Rook seemed to duck away from his touch, and Booker shook his head, "Maybe there's something wrong with him?" He whispered to the Slytherin, as if the cat could hear him. He didn't mean anything by it, cats tended to be finicky. Or at least that's what he'd heard. Booker had always been more of a dog person. |

Lis glanced up from her textbook as a familiar Hufflepuff approached. Rook had fallen asleep, but she noticed his ears twitch at the sound of Booker's voice. The Slytherin smiled at her friend, "It's going to be expensive feeding him, come summer." Since she would have to rely almost entirely on her allowance. (Her parents had yet to be informed that she had purchased a cat.) Still, they hadn't been terribly upset over the tattoo thing. Yet this was a living being, you know? A bit different. The Slytherin watched Booker crouch. He had Rook's attention, but the kitten seemed content where he was. That was strange for a kitten, wasn't it? Weren't they supposed to be energetic? "He just takes a bit to warm up to people, is all." Even to her. He'd been quite skittish when she'd picked him up, originally. That's actually what Lis had liked about him. "He curls up, right..." She laughed a bit as her head dipped to one side, a hand indicated her neck. Booker had approached, his hand hovering, neglected, over her lap as Rook cringed away. "Just some quiet." Lis responded, although her tone had softened so much that one might imagine she didn't want him hearing it. "I'm wondering if I'll be able to keep him from my parents, I think he might have learned how to open doors." The Slytherin confided, her tone an appropriate whisper. A hint of conspiracy danced behind her words. "He's so calm, I wonder what he might be scheming." Rook seemed to take Booker's hand into account, and hesitantly sniffed the tips of the boys fingers. |

Book nodded, "You think so?" He was still small, and it wasn't like cats got to be huge. Did cats eat a lot? Dogs ate a lot, especially while growing. "You think your dad really hasn't noticed him yet?" Book chuckled. He had a feeling that Professor Elliot was more observant than he let on. Maybe not? Maybe Booker was just used too used to men like his step father; obsessively observant, nothing got by Oleg Vetrov. That thought made him grimace little bit, honestly, Booker had been trying to avoid thinking about the Vetrovs. He was going to try to avoid them as much as possible this summer. Not that he wanted to impose on Alistair and Avery while they had their first child on the way. His.. half sibling. Something he should be happy about, probably, but really, it only made him feel a little bit lost. In the way, actually. Yeah. Avoiding both parties would probably be the best idea this year. "Shy little guy, huh?" Booker half smiled as his attention turned back to Lis and her kitten. He allowed his hand to remain there for a little while, in case Rook wanted to try to get to know him. "He might get used to that. And soon, he'll be really big. By next year you may be walking around like that, if you're not careful." He teased, pointing his finger at her crooked head. The kitten backed away at the quick movement, "Sorry, sorry." Book apologized, and the kitten continued to sniff his hand again. He barely heard her answer, "Whoops." He said with a grin, "I can go, if you'd like?" Rook had rubbed his face against Booker's hand, finally, and now the boy was scratching underneath the kitten's chin. From the low rumbling coming from the animal's little body, the Hufflepuff assumed that he liked it, "I think that Rook might be upset if you made me leave, now." He joked. "Oh hey, I have something to ask you." Could it wait? He should probably ask Cylas if he could hang around with them during the summer. The boy shook his head then. He didn't really want to impose himself on anyone, but he needed somewhere to stay, "Think.. your mom and dad would mind if I came around here and there over the summer?" Because.. hopefully he wouldn't have to stay all summer, really. |

"Well, I'll have to buy food and a litterbox... Litter..." Lis'd never had a pet before, and it wasn't as though her allowance was that big. She'd managed to save up enough for Rook, but that was from being excessively frugal and mooching sweets from her friends. The Slytherin frowned at the thought of her father. "He's got so much going on, I'm surprised he finds the time to wipe his ass." If he had seen her pet, which seemed unlikely as she tried to keep Rook locked inside her dorm, he had made no mention of it. Wasn't that something parents should mention? Getting a cat effected all of them, didn't it? She sighed, slightly and tried to stop thinking about it. Booker really had it a lot worse than her, like he didn't really belong anywhere. She could see it sometimes, in his expression, though he did an incredible job of seeming unphased by it all. Lis laughed at the thought of it and Rook jostled unhappily in her lap. "Maybe he'll stay small, and I'll carry him around on my shoulder." That wasn't likely to happen. She wondered at carrying a full grown cat around on her shoulder. "I'll teach him some English, and he can make fun of people as they walk by." Maybe she should have gotten a parrot. "I wouldn't dream of sending you away, dragon boy. I think you've almost breached second base." Rook had seemed to warm up to Booker quickly, perhaps there had been something particularly tasty about the Hufflepuff's fingers. Wasn't that a thought? The kitten had started to knead her thigh and she winced each time his claws dug into her. The text book was put down on the seat and a hand wrapped around Rook's paws to stop him clawing her. "Oh, so content. Sit down, dummy." First to the cat, then to Booker. Lis glanced up at Booker, signifying that he had her attention. The smile that followed his request was a little sad at first. But she realized she'd be bummed if she didn't see him over the summer at all. "I'd really like-" Lisbeth flushed a bit at the excited tone and quickly reiterated, "I mean, they probably wouldn't mind. They like taking care of people. Plus, there's about ten thousand movies I need to show you." |
