Sweden vs Ireland; Year 4 - Day 16 - QWC - Day 4 - 12pm

“Yeah, Gwen it is.” was what greeted Pat's question and what followed was Gwen's gasp which slightly shocked the young man as he was taken aback by the action unfolding before him in the game as Sweden scored the next goal among all the hustle and bustle.

“GOAL FOR SWEDEN!”

“Who are you supporting?” Pat was asked, still slightly confused by all the action going around him, usually of course he would have had his father beside him to answer all questions, guide him on who to support and generally make the occasion feel more comfortable for Pat.

"Erm" Pat stuttered, "I'm not too sure, I was leaning towards Ireland, but then I leaned back towards Sweden, I think...I think it's because people have said I look Swedish in the past...but then...sorry I'm blabbering!" Pat then decided to copy Gwen's clapping technique, hoping that it was the best technique for not quite knowing whom to support in the wild sport.

Gwen nodded her head as he spoke, the guy seemed to have no idea on who he should support and Gwen felt in a similar position. She wasn’t’ sure whether she should be supporting Ireland or Sweden. It wasn’t like she an alliance to either of them, so she decided that she would just watch the match and cheer for both teams. “Just support both then.” Gwen reasoned as she glanced at Pat and then turned back to the game in front of her.

“I think the England match will be more interesting.” Gwen admitted as she turned around to see where her grandmother and Imogen had gotten to. The two of them had disappeared around the same time and Gwen wouldn’t put it past her grandmother to be a bit nosy.

Pat listened to what Gwen had to say, keeping one eye on the game at the same time as when she spoke, he like his fellow Slytherin had also no idea on who to support in the game going on before them. Quidditch was a massive part of Pat's life, yet without a team support it seemed lacking to him, perhaps it was his short attention span that caused this, something that had affected him so often during his studying days, leading to bad levels at Hogwarts and even Muggle school before hand.

"I agree, the England game should be really good, I know which team to support in that one!" Pat said enthusiastically to the girl. "I think that makes the game much more interesting when you have someone to back. How have you been enjoying the tournament so far?"

Pat followed the eye movement of Gwen and looked where she was also looking, it was when he did this, he realised the sheer amount of people all around the two Slytherins at the game. It was such a beautiful sight seeing all these fellow wizards and witches but at the same time it was very daunting, all Pat really knew is that he was glad he found someone he knew, albeit only slightly from encounters in classes and in the Slytherin dorm room, but it was someone in among the big crowd

and I will take what is mine

Somehow, the sound of Antoine's rough, guttural French was calming to Carmen. She hardly spoke with her family anymore – Poppy didn't even know how – but their home was still nestled into the Mediterranean coastline, a quiet oasis. The towns nearby, full of sun and so different from Paris, buzzed with excited choruses of French. Occasionally, a tourist's sweet accent caught Carmen's ear and she turned, smirking; she missed those days, remembering times when things weren't complicated but, rather, comforting. Carmen sighed, shaking her head as Antoine finished speaking.

Where could she begin? She had no idea where to start. “Mais... Antoine,” Carmen began quietly. “Ce ne était pas Daisy qui a brûlé l'école... Right?” The world was burning in a capacity that a simple girl like Daisy Fitzroy could not conceive in her wildest dreams. There was more happening...

And Daisy's Vox stunt was the perfect distraction.

“There is more to this story, I promise you,” said Carmen quietly, and then she was glad that those around her couldn't notice Antoine and Carmen, alone in their worries and troubles. “Can you talk to Merida about this? Or do you guys, you know, not mix work with pleasure? It's probably easier that way.”

Addie's eyes stayed trained on her best friend as she spoke, nodding along faintly. "That's a bit of a surprise, I thought you and Tinsley stopped talking in... third year? Something like that, anyway," Addie murmured, shrugging her shoulders. "Ian, I suppose? That would explain my lack of invite, seeing as he's a fugitive and all." The young woman's voice held a teasing lilt to it.

Honestly, she couldn't blame him. The Elementium registration hadn't sat well with her either, but she preferred being able to have a real life to being on the run. Then again, had she really had a real life these past years?

"Not that I'd ever actually turn him in, which he knows. But, don't tell," she smiled faintly, pausing and looking thoughtful.

"Partially. I decided I'd pop by and lend a hand in case anything else went wrong. Knowing the World Cup, it's bound to. Mostly though, I'm here to see you and some others if I can find them."

Addie rubbed the back of her neck absently, watching Emma still. "I received an interesting owl from Albus Dumbledore the other day," she paused. "Asking if I'd consider stepping in as Deputy Head."

I SEE A BAD MOON RISING

“Well, he proposed to her in front of a whole group of people and the cat's totally out of the bag, but I'll bet he's got some ties at the Ministry to see him through it,” rambled Emma, thinking of Ian. He had come a long way from being the scrawny boy of his youth with a weird accent, but Emma still couldn't imagine him as a person when he left Tinsley's shadow. Emma frowned slightly. “We're a dying breed. Between everyone going missing in action... good luck finding anyone but me and Dave around here. Oh, and Jess. She's around. But, you know...”

It wasn't the same. None of it was. There were faces completely slashed out of history, their names no longer echoing power but, rather, whispered cemetery markers. There had been a time when Emma felt strong at their sides and, now, it became painfully aware of their absence. Maybe she should have gone to Tinsley's wedding, after all...

Addie's voice gently tugged Emma free from her thoughts. “Thank God,” sighed Emma, visibly relieved. “Listen, if anyone can do that godforsaken job, it's you. For Christ's sake, Precious Hindert – well, she got married but, like, whatever – did the damn thing. Seriously, I think you should take the job, Addie. For one, you can be closer to us and see Carmen graduate. And two, if I have to go back to that castle as Deputy Head I will literally kill myself.”

It wasn't funny, but it was a little. Emma cracked a smile. “Or worse. I'll go find Xander after all these years and join his traveling band. Please, Addie. Don't make me do it.”

Jessica stood with one arm crossed against her chest with her elbow resting on her forearm and her chin resting on her hand. She stared at the match which was taking place in front of her, it was certainly dramatic and she had hardly heard anything from the England team who were dotting around behind her. They were all nervous, it was plain to see. Jessica turned to look at them as Sweden scored another goal.

“Do you think we have a chance?” Mabel Garrott called out as she turned in her chair. She had her hood up to cover her face. Jessica had expected at least one of them to speak up, but she was met with a defeating silence. Jessica sighed and stepped back to turn and look at the others within the booth.

“Of course we do. If you go in thinking like that then we’re fucked.” Jessica said firmly as she stepped forward and observed all of their faces.

“We’re gonna get hurt though.” Primrose said, her attitude was worse than most of the student that Jessica had taught. Jessica nodded her head and stepped forward again, all Primrose did though was sigh dramatically and roll her eyes. “Fuck it, we should go practice this is depressing.” Primrose got up from her chair and walked over to the nearby table, she picked up a piece of parchment which had scribbles all over it about strategy and included information on the other team.

“We will soon, we just need to see how these guys are playing. They seem about as ruthless as Russia could be.” Jessica turned back to the match and looked out into the crowd, somehow a familiar face jumped out from the nearby stand. Emma and Addie? Jessica hummed to herself and then looked back out to the pitch, she had other things to think about.

"I figured as much," Addie murmured with a gentle sigh, rolling her eyes as Emma began to speak again.

"What a glowing review, how could I not want the job?" The auror grinned faintly, eyebrow raised. "Lucky for you, I've already accepted."

It certainly would be nice to be closer to the few people she could still count as friends. There'd been so many deaths and disappearances, not to mention just general falling out of contact. It'd be good for her.

Besides, Addie wouldn't be surprised if she had her hands full at the school as both an auror and deputy head.

I SEE A BAD MOON RISING

“It's like Christmas morning!” shrieked Emma, clapping her hands. “You hear that, Orion? I'm stealing your beloved employees.” Still sitting, Orion pretended not to hear her and leaned forward in his seat, eyes pointedly watching the game. “You know, sometimes I wonder why I bother to keep Orion around. He's been a great help with Poppy, but at what cost?” She snickered at her best friend and his stoic face, turning on her other best friend. Addie, Addie, Addie. Emma couldn't actually believe that she was standing here, having this conversation, but, somehow, she always knew it would happen.

“As long as you don't disappear like Hellius,” smirked Emma, remembering her strange encounter with the... thing that he was. Bleh. “I'm not going to tell the girls, Addie. I'm going to keep it a secret, and I think you should too. I'll send them on a wild adventure, just wait. You'd be surprised what gossip can do to their brains. They'll go off on these investigative adventures just to find out the new Deputy Head. Let it be a surprise on the first day of term whether you've accepted or not. I just need to see the look on Carmen's face. Until then, maybe I'll tell her that Jordanna Bauer has accepted the position.”

If you couldn't joke about your classmate-turned-sociopath, what could you joke about in the world?

“But honestly, someone like you is probably, you know, better to handle what's going on,” sighed Emma, lowering her voice. She leaned over her seat, closer to Addie. “There's a reason I didn't go the Auror route like you did. It's just so much, Addie. I don't even know how I'm standing, to be honest. Between Fortionde... if anything happens to Hogwarts, I can't deal with any more blood being on my hands.”

Not again.

Addie couldn't help the chuckle that escaped her lips at Emma's glee. "I wouldn't go so far as stealing," she glanced over to Orion. She was still an auror, and she'd certainly still act in that capacity if she needed to.

Addie shifted her gaze back to Emma, amusement clear on her features as the woman playfully berated her friend, who proceeded to ignore her. A strange look crossed over Addie's face, just for a moment, as Hellius was mentioned. She could feel her stomach twist, her chest tighten at his mention. Addie and Hellius had become incredibly close near the end of school, and then he, just like Tristan, had disappeared.

The young auror had looked for him, but had had no luck. It was Tristan all over again. Addie had spent a long time wondering whether it was worth becoming close with anyone, if they were just going to disappear.

"I don't plan to," she smiled weakly, nodding along as Emma composed her plan of keeping Addie's appointment a secret. It certainly would be fun to see the look on Carmen's face on that first day of school. "Try not to have too much fun misleading them," Addie chuckled faintly, sticking her hands in the pockets of her jeans.

The young woman fell silent, a strange, melancholic look passing over her features as Emma spoke. "Sometimes I feel like it's the only route that was left open to me," Addie admitted softly, running a hand over her face wearily. "I'm jealous, you know, of the life that you and Dave and some of the others managed to have. And I guess that's really saying something, because I know it hasn't been easy for you, Em."

She'd lost so much, but she still had so much as well. She had a family, a life with them. It was something Addie had only been able to dream of.

"I've missed you... But I'm scared to go back, to walk the grounds and halls where everything went wrong. I'm not sure how you do it. It's pretty amazing," she smiled weakly, meeting Emma's eyes.

Behind Carmen Gray-Winters and Antoine Belrose, Thomas White sat contemplatively, a red plastic cup brimmed with butterbeer in his left hand, Petra Nefertari to his right, scribbling away in her notebook. He didn't pay attention to the happenings around him; Carmen and Antoine's whispers went unnoticed. Unbeknownst to them, Thomas wore an identical red band to Alexander DeWitt's under his jacket.

Thomas rose the cup to his lips. Things had been tricky for the passed few days. Anyone was liable to arrest, which made the unity between the Vox Populi closer. Without his brothers and sisters, Thomas would be nothing. "There it is," Tommy's eyes brightened at the brief flash of red on DeWitt's arm. He rose his cup in salute. "There we are."

"I have no doubt in my mind that there's going to be a band of aurors waiting for him in the locker room after the match." Petra stated bluntly, slamming her palms onto her notebook. She sighed, aggravated. "It was a clumsy move. But it's publicity."

"Tell me about it." Tommy said, jumping up from his seat to catch a fluttering parchment in the wind. He sat down, his eyes hungrily scanning the message for any new information. Daisy Fitzroy's black eyes glowered back him. "There's a reward," he huffed, unimpressed. "Conspiracy. Ha."

I SEE A BAD MOON RISING

Emma squeezed Kane's hand tighter and tighter until she was forced to release the pressure and support herself. Images of Emma slapping Bellatrix for being the basic cardboard cutout of a complete and total loser were flashing before her eyes, quick and palpable. Emma imagined her grabbing at her wiry hair, pulling her face down into the ground, Bella's pleas shrieking into the night... a lonely tear trickled down Emma's face and she slowly made her way over to Addie.

Emma didn't know what to do. Addie and Tristan had always been Emma's friends, Addie one of Emma's best girls on the planet. And now, to see her broken... Emma couldn't possibly know what to do. Instead, Emma's small hands gently ran through the golden strands of Addie's hair softly. Emma stayed quiet, except for the brief sniffle she tried desperately to stifle.

In the bit of Emma's stomach, she felt emptiness.

"We'll find him, Addie," she whispered very quietly. "Please don't be so upset. I'm so sorry."

Emma wasn't exactly sure how she had done it, but she only assumed it had something to do with her children. When Emma looked at Carmen and Poppy, she saw a small sliver of herself – they were pieces of her soul, wholly and completely. Working within the hallowed halls of Hogwarts, at first, had been terrifying. She could only nod yes under the piercing gaze of Dumbledore's kind, twinkling blue eyes. Everything felt different; the ghosts of her lost friends haunted those corridors, but she had fought for this. All of them had fought for the ground the castle sat on. All of them had fought for each pillar, each floor, each small window and each murky window pane. Emma would have given her life then, and she still would, but when Carmen and Poppy arrived, something changed.

The darkness grew light. The shadows weren't quite as stretched or dark, ominous or maddening. There was a hope inside of Emma's heart that she was not aware could exist – she thought she had left it long ago, trapped in the past.

Emma continued to pet Addie's head softly as Belleford speaking. As her words rang into the silence, Emma stopped, somehow frightened at the cold stone statue that Addie had become. Emma gently reached for Hellius, closing the gap between them with her small hand. It reached for his, and applied a bit of pressure."Take care of her, please," Emma murmured. "She's my best friend."

“We belong there,” said Emma, and her voice tracked. “You know, as hard as it always has been and as hard as it will be, we were always meant to go back.” Emma's eyes were glassy; even drowning under the weight of their emotions, they would always find themselves at those tall, looming doors. “It's not just a place where things went wrong. Not to me, now that I look back on it. Hogwarts was – is – our home.”

Emma sighed. “I'm happy you're back, Addie. We need you around here.”

Gwen nodded her head, it was obvious that most people from the school would be supporting England. Although there were quite a few American students at the school, she began to wonder who they would end up supporting seeing as they lost to England. Then again there were students from all over at Hogwarts, it was amazing that the school didn’t teach any other languages or something. Gwen glanced to Pat and shrugged. “It’s been alright I guess.” Gwen hadn’t really done much during the tournament, and she supposed the wedding didn’t count for much.

Gwen spun around to look at the crowds, two people jumped out to her. She almost smirked. “I spy two fellow housemates.” Gwen said raising her eyebrows and then turning back to look at Pat. “Petra and Thomas are up there.” Gwen shrugged and turned back to the game, they were stood just behind Carmen who was pretty close to where Gwen and Pat stood. She glanced at them for a moment but then began to wonder where Mags was right now. And Anatoli for that matter.

And Imogen. Where was everyone hiding? Gwen hummed to herself.

Pat listened to Gwen, It's been alright I guess." she said. Like himself, Gwen didn't seem to be enjoying the massive tournament and daunting atmosphere around the place that had been home to wizarding sports fans for a while now. For Pat it was very much about adjusting to young adult life more at that time in his life, rather than being confused at the Quidditch tournament right now. Albeit it being his first tournament without his dad being there due to work commitments with the Ministry of Magic it was also the other changes in his life right now. He had just finished another year for him at Hogwarts and now had set himself a challenge at trying to make more friends within the school; you could say this was an adjustment period for the young Slytherin, one that could not be avoided.

It was then when Gwen pointed out two of their fellow students and housemates, Pat followed her look as she named them as Petra and Thomas. More fellow Slytherins who Pat recognised but wasn't completely sure what they were like in person, as just like the girl with whom he was currently conversing with, he had only met them in passing and was yet to really know them properly.

"Ah Petra and Thomas, I think I remember them" Pat said, despite not being one-hundred-percent sure about his statement. He then noticed a quizzical look on Gwen's face as she looked around the arena studying the crowd, followed by a hum that matched the expression. "Looking for other people? Pat asked, "Who else have you seen at the tournament?"

Antoine nodded, what Carmen said was true. There was no way that Daisy could have blown up the school. Daisy was too focused on preaching equality, and not on the actual physics to be able to do that much damage.

Leaning back he gave Carmen a look. Antoine was not not the kind to be willing to admit to allowing anything to ruin his pleasure. Let alone business. "Nothing ruins pleasure." Back to the light hearted easy topics.

"I'll talk to her, but what she can tell me is probably of little or no use. Trivial. " Antoine knew Merida took her job very seriously, and he'd already gotten her in trouble once. Plus he wanted to make sure Carmen understood that Merida wasn't completely involved in this. Whatever he did, he did alone. He wasn't about to chance Merida's career over this.
I just wanna say, I remember conversations, before I gave up on me
and if it's any consulation I remember everything

And you can't take that, no you can't take that away .
You were the one who saved me, and you can't take that away.

We belong there.

The young woman remained silent for a long moment, her mind wandering through the hallways of the school and the various ghosts it held for her. In the end, she supposed Emma was right. Hogwarts held just as many happy days, maybe more, as sad ones. The painful memories just seemed to stand out more.

We were always meant to go back. Maybe, somehow, everyone else would find their way back as well.

"You're right, of course you're right," Addie sighed, reaching out a hand for Emma's once more. "I'll do my best, thanks Em."

It was ten all, and the match was just getting started. Now it seemed the team were getting into their stride and Fiona found herself screaming for Ireland. She hoped that they would win, but as she looked out to the pitch it looked as though Sweden was ready to score another goal.

Olsen nabbed the ball the second the referee threw it into the air, the Swedish chaser zapped through the other players, she chucked the quaffle to Stenberg who reached out to catch it. But he wasn’t quick enough for Foley who swooped over and caught the quaffle. Before the Swedish team could do anything Foley had thrown it to Tierney who threw it at the right hand goal post.

“GOAL TO IRELAND!”

Ireland: 20
Sweden: 10

Fiona screamed, her brother and father screamed with her while her mother just laughed. The cheering from Ireland drowned out the boos and hisses of the Swedish fans.

The referee threw the Quidditch ball into the air and almost instantly the Ireland chaser Siobhan Breen swooped in to grab the quaffle.

Jessica watched as the quaffle was passed back and forth and between teams. She glanced around to her own Quidditch team and sighed. Most of them had now actually sat up in their chairs and were looking out to the pitch. “You guys can take note from these teams.” Jessica said sternly as she pointed out to the pitch.

Just as she looked back out, the snitch slipped back into view causing the crowds to go wild. Anton Borg and Ava O’Brien shot after it as the quaffle was thrown to Stenberg. But as he swooped along a bludger flew into his path causing him to swerve sharply to the right. As he did so, the quaffle slipped from his fingers and Conor Tierney was there to snatch the quaffle back.

As though in a fit of rage, Stenberg swooped over and grabbed Tierney’s broom. A loud whistle was blown and the teams stopped. The referee flew over and took the quaffle.

“Foul on Sweden for touching Tierney’s broom! Penalty goes to Ireland.” One of the commentators yelled, and it was met with angry boo’s from the Swedish fans.
Jessica turned back to her players and raised her eyebrows to them. They all turned to look at her.

“See, take note there.” Jessica said pointing to the pitch. Another whistle was heard, and Jessica turned around just to see the quaffle fly through a goal post. Another goal to Ireland.

I REFUSE TO BE FORGOTTEN

The snitch danced across the pitch, it even hovered over the audience for a while as people began to scream and point. The Swedish seeker was the first to notice the snitch and went darting after it, but he was followed quickly by the Ireland seeker. Kyoko looked out to the crowd and then to the commentators box next to her. She noticed how the commentators didn’t seem as perky as other matches, and she put that down to the interruption at the end of the England match. It was almost as though they were worried it was going to happen again, but Kyoko had her doubts.

Of course she thought there was something up with the world cup, seeing as Japan’s match had been moved to the morning after their evening match. Almost as though they didn’t want Japan to win, but they had won the match this morning and Kyoko felt as though that was a middle finger to those who changed the match.

”Ireland beater Cian Ward seemed to be aiming the bludger at the Swedish seeker!” Eddie yelled out. As he did so Olsen threw the quaffle at the Ireland goals, but keeper Saoirse Gallagher caught it. There was a collective sigh from the Sweden supporters. It only took a few moments for Larsson to get hold of the quaffle again, causing the Swedish supporters to begin screaming once more.

“Oh did you see that?! Larsson used a reverse pass to confuse the Irish chasers!” Eddie screamed once more, almost laughing at the event. The quaffle was passed between Swedish players and thrown towards the goal posts, but the Irish keeper caught it again.

Kyoko turned to those around her and noticed that they were watching with shock. None of them were wearing team colours, but the match was obviously more than interesting for the lot of them. A sudden scream from a nearby person alerted Kyoko to the match.

”AND IT’S A GOAL FOR IRELAND! BLIMEY!” The screams from the crowds were deafening, but as Kyoko looked up into the air she noticed that the Swedish seeker was diving down to the ground. He was followed by the Irish seeker. But as they got closer and closer to the ground, the Swedish seeker suddenly pulled up causing the Irish seeker to swerve to a halt just above the ground.

“Anton Borg almost got away with the Wronski Feint tactic there!”

Ireland: 40
Sweden: 10

Kyoko could hardly believe what was happening in front of her, the match was getting dramatic now and it seemed as though the teams were matched in different places. Sweden had tactics to get the snitch, but Ireland were able to score more goals. Kyoko realised that it all rested on the seekers now, so she began to jot down in her notepad wondering whether it would be worth writing articles for her own practice as well as practicing her own presenting roles.

Gwen clapped for Sweden as their seeker managed to pull off a tricky tactic. She then glanced over to Pat who said he thought he could remember Petra and Thomas. Those two did seem a lot quieter than some of the other Slytherin members. Then again Pat was rather quiet himself, Gwen only knew his name because they were in a lot of the same classes. She looked back to the crowds, she then shrugged.

“I’m looking for Imogen. She went to the bathroom a while ago.” Gwen paused for a moment. “She’d a Ravenclaw, I don’t know if you’d know her.” But Gwen assumed the guy probably knew her loudmouth cousin more than anyone else. It was weird how small the school could be, but there were so many students who Gwen had never spoken to or heard of. Another bunch of screams echoed around them and Gwen turned back to the pitch.

The Swedish chaser was weaving in and out of the Irish players as they threw the quaffle over to another player. But it seemed the Irish beaters had another idea, Cian Ward reached out and smacked the bat against the bludger. It was flying right into one of the Swedish chasers, who ended up spinning upside down on their broom. The crowd gasped while some cheered. But then out of the corner of her eye Gwen noticed the Swedish seeker was inching closer and closer to the snitch.

“ANOTHER GOAL TO IRELAND! They are on a winning streak it seems!” Eddie screamed, but all eyes seemed to be on the Swedish seeker who was a lot closer to the snitch then the Irish seeker was. The crowd screamed as the snitch flew over the stands, it was quickly followed by the two seekers causing a gust of wind to blow away hats and flags and even the litter that swirled at the crowds feet.

“Woah, that was mad.” Gwen commented with a small laugh. She turned to look at a bunch of people within the crowd who were now running after their hats and sunglasses. It was mayhem, but she was happy that she wasn’t distracted by the hilarious scuttling as when she turned back to the pitch events seemed to gotten dramatic.

Both the seekers were charging along the pitch, both of their hands outstretched as they lurched for the snitch. Both seekers toppled off their brooms and began to tumble on the ground as the crowd gasped.

“BOTH SEEKERS ARE HOLDING ONTO THE SNITCH! THE SNITCH HAS BEEN CAUGHT!” The commentator screamed out. “But who got it first?! The referee has gone down to find out who nabbed it first!”
