Minister for Magic

There wasn't a single trace of doubt in Stephanie's expression as she stood in the middle of the pitch with the eyes of the wizarding world trained on her. A strong, confident mask held back the pressure of boiling blood as she contemplated her next move. The Swedish minister seemed suspiciously concerned with everything that had gone on, and Stephanie couldn't help but wonder if ulterior motives were at play. "Risk, Minister?" Stephanie repeated back to Booker as she turned to him. Alex was young, and Stephanie was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for his foolishness. No one had been harmed, but he would still be called to answer for his actions, which implicated him as supporting the terrorist group. "I see no tangible risk in allowing the game to continue. Your son will play, and the aurors will take him into custody when the match concludes." Just then, a series of pops indicated the return of Merida and Alex. Stephanie turned away from Booker without another word and approached the young auror and her captive. Auror Hastings appeared with a third pop. "Madam Minister, they're—" the man spoke quickly, presumably wanting to relay the fact that Merida and Alex were no where to be found, but he cut himself short when he spotted the duo and returned to Stephanie's side in silence. "Mr. DeWitt," Stephanie greeted the young quidditch star, who was gracious enough to greet her properly, unlike his father. Stephanie had never been the type to allow herself to be charmed, but she couldn't fault the boy for recognizing the precariousness of his position. "I think it goes without saying that you have some things to answer for, but I feel it would be foolish of me to pull you from the game when there's apparently so much at stake," she confessed. There was a very specific intent to her choice of words. "With that said, I am willing to allow you to play on the condition that you understand that you will be taken into custody as soon as the game ends, win, or lose," Stephanie went on to explain. There was no mistaking the seriousness of her tone. "The aurors are erecting an anti-disapparition field around the pitch and will be prepared with brooms if you attempt to leave at any point. I am willing to give you the chance to explain your actions upon the match's conclusion, and I assure you that, if you do not come peacefully, you will never play quidditch in the United Kingdom for as long as the ministry holds power." Stephanie cleared her throat, still holding her head high as she made direct eye contact with Alex. Her words were not meant to be threatening, but it was important to relay the severity of the consequences if he chose to disobey. With her lips pursed, Stephanie drew her wand and casually flicked her wrist, banishing the restraints from Alex's arms. "Make your decision, Mr. DeWitt, and make it count," the minister urged him, and she turned and began to walk away as the crowd burst into cheers. |
