As usual, Saturday mornings were reserved for muggle schoolwork. Specifically this year, Mille had decided it would be grammar. She was already deciding that 12th grade grammar was officially boring as all heck. "I suggested getting the fun book, but no, we had to get the really boring book for Mille to use on beautiful Saturday mornings." Mille muttered under her breath. She didn't care if this book had gotten the best reviews and only took ten minutes per lesson. That was ten minutes longer than she wanted to spend on it. When a character named Sam showed up, Mille pressed her quill so hard into the paper she tore a tiny hole in it. You really need to get over him, Mills. Seriously. He's not worth this. And the part of her that momentarily thought he used to be needed to be squashed. Painfully. |

Chaska had only just received his permission form for Hogsmeade this morning. He had needed to sit through an entire week's worth of hype, worrying he'd be the freak who couldn't go too - his parents had needed an inordinate amount of convincing. Inordinate, a word Chaska had only learned because he was living with a tower full of nerds. A predicament, yet another on his rapidly growing vocabulary, he would not have been in were it not for one Mille Osset. Chaska had been sure to thank her for guiding him around, as it seemed her aversion was only to clinics and not the medicine provided. Chaska might have been more hesitant to hasten Mille's recovery had he known the consequences of his actions. Mainly: A near uninterrupted string of chatter. "Bonjour mademoiselle Zombie Girl," When speaking in French, Chaska was always sure to imitate his father's accent so that everyone would know Chaska was being cynical and not pretentious. Chaska sat next to Mille, one arm draping over the back of the sofa as he leaned her way. It was in the hopes of catching insight into what was causing her aggravation. He withdrew in disgust, as he was no stranger to learning multiple curriculums, "There is no way to make grammar fun." That wasn't entirely true. Chaska had learned a lot about grammar in his pursuit of Italian and French. Edited by Chaska Godard, Jun 2 2015, 10:36:06 PM.

While Mille could not claim to know French (at all-- even if her familiarity with Latin made it sound familiar), she at the very least knew what Bonjour mademoiselle meant. Of course, two could play at that game. "Salve, domine boy-who's-oxter-is-currently-embracing-the-sofa." Unlike certain individuals, Mille owned-- and used-- a word of the day calender. Nerdy? Quite. But Grandfather always said the sign of a great mind was a large vocabulary. So she read the calender. It was kind of interesting anyway. She groaned and tilted her neck to the side, producing an angry pop. She'd woken up twisted in the sheets this morning. "My sister swears by the fact that this only takes ten minutes per lesson." She told him. "I think it could be put to better use as a sleep aid. Or maybe a voodoo doll." She stole a glance at the hole she'd created in one of the sheets. Perhaps it would be a good therapy tool. writing the name Sam on it and going to town. "Why aren't you downstairs for Hogsmeade? I would think that would be the highlight of your stay in middle-of-nowhere, Scotland." |

Chaska raised his eyebrows at Mille. Was she trying to be clever? To confuse him? He'd never give her the satisfaction; whenever Chaska walked into a room it was with the express purpose of appearing more bored than anyone else. So they'd know he was too cool to be here. "You'll have to use Zombie Girl's attacco speciale to claim her knowledge for yourself." Chaska suggested, as if Mille eating her sister's brain was a feasible option. Chaska had no idea how a book could be used as a voodoo doll. He wasn't paying enough attention to see where her quill lay, and if he had been he wasn't likely to have made the connection. Mille was being weird, and instead of allowing himself to look confused, his eyebrows rose. This happened around Mille a lot. Hogsmeade, he would need to hurry if he was going to make it. Chaska was starting to wonder if the entire thing was a bit passé, since so many people would be going. "Everywhere has a middle of nowhere," Chaska shrugged, "E tu? Why aren't you going?" |

Mille started to laugh and shook her head. "Not worth it. I love my sister to death, but she's a business and pharmacology major who pulls a shit ton of hours at a pharmaceutical company and the rest of her time associating with prissy, arrogant bigots. I can think of many brains I don't want to go on a trip on, but Caroline's happens to be one of them. Not to mention it's my sister, which would be weird as all heck." And was Mille the single biggest dork alive? She was currently referencing an old tv show that her sister had liked. Mille rolled her eyes. She may have been outdoorsy, but she was a city girl through and through. "And yet it still exists." Her expression became fixed, and she wrote answers in her grammar book with renewed enthusiasm to avoid looking at Chaska. Three years after being open about it, a lifetime of living it, and she still wasn't entirely comfortable explaining her home life to people. It hadn't exactly come up yet with Chaska. And she didn't expect already, because in the public eye a bit as she was, she wasn't exactly well enough known that anyone with eyes would know who she was-- especially anyone who didn't live in Europe. Chaska went to Salem originally. "My family is kind of.....rich." She admitted. "More than kind of, actually. Rich enough that I'm kind of a kidnap risk." She shrugged. "I'm not actually allowed to go to Hogsmeade unless I use the buddy system. And since all of my friends are on dates..." She held up the book. "Grammar it is." |

"To death," Chaska emphasized, though Mille blazed straight through the irony. "A morte." With a different inflection, he could say the same in French. That was the nice thing about languages with the same origin, he supposed. At least, Chaska supposed they had the same origin. It wasn't as though he had taken the time to study linguistics, though he had entertained the possibility once he had graduated from... whatever they were doing at Hogwarts. Chaska wondered how someone could hang around prissy, arrogant bigots without inheriting some of their traits. Some people might have been sympathetic to Mille's plight. Chaska just found it funny. Well, not really the kidnapping part. More the "buddy system" part. How incredibly juvenile? Didn't she claim to be eighteen. Certainly she could fend off any would be kidnapper. Worst case scenario, she opened her mouth to talk. Anyone would think twice before subjecting themselves to such torture. A low chuckle rumbled in the back of his throat, strangled there to keep his reaction to a cool minimum. Chaska couldn't look at her for fear of laughing harder. His arm retracted from the back of the couch to wrap around his ribs. "I'll never believe you're older than me." He grabbed the grammar book from her and tossed it over his shoulder, as though it weighed a lot less than it did. The book landed on the spare cushion of the couch, "You'll come with me," Chaska was informing her, more than suggesting, "Show me around." His strict visage cracked, "I'll be your buddy, pal." |

Mille rolled her eyes. "I'm not a zombie, anyway." She told him. "Moot point." "Yes, yes, go ahead and laugh." She muttered. At least he hadn't done anything weirder or more offending than Chaska usually did. "In the muggle world I have a body guard. So does my sister. Grandpa just wants a warning system in case someone attempts to do something stupid." Exceptionally stupid, considering though Mille was tiny, she was also stronger than she looked and had enough self-defense training to kick a would-be kidnapper's ass three ways from Sunday. "I mean it's not likely but you know....be prepared and all." She pushed his shoulder. "And I'm telling you, my birth certificate says 2015." She blinked. "You're sure? There are plenty of single, extremely good looking women in this school who would love a piece of the 'sexy American boy'. You could probably get a date with any one of them. Far be it from me to stand in your way." She blushed faintly. Not that Chaska wasn't attractive (because he was. Very) but.....never mind. She wasn't one to stand in the way of a friend's love life. Probably because she didn't have one. |

Mille would never be a zombie with that attitude. Chaska thought Mille, more than most muggles, had lucked out on getting accepted into Hogwarts. Imagine going through all the teenage drama with the added stigma of a bodyguard. Mille already had to deal with her freakishly infantile features. A bodyguard would have ruined her. Although, as she was planning to spend her weekend studying grammar anyway... He laughed, as she shoved him and rubbed his shoulder absently, "Io non ti credo." Chaska reiterated, in Italian. Just to solidify the point, not because he was pretentious. Petra Morganstern was not among those women. (Not because they were both American.) Chaska would give anything for the courage to actually ask her out, except his comfort in not having been rejected by her. His heart beat faster at the thought of seeing Petra at Hogsmeade, and his stomach dropped at the thought of being seen with Mille. Maybe this hadn't been the best idea? Surely Petra Morganstern wouldn't be intimidated by someone like Mille Osset. Not that Petra would even think twice on the matter... Right? "You expect me to ask someone out between here and the Entrance Hall?" The thought was an amusing one, almost as amusing as her having called him sexy. Chaska was going to hold onto that one for awhile, hit her with it while she was least expecting it. Sexy. "Is it a challenge? You can bring your grammar book along in case someone says 'yes'." Mille shook her head. "No idea what you just said." She shrugged. "There are plenty of single women in this school who probably wouldn't mind an escort. You could even find one at Hogsmeade for all I know." She sighed. "Far be it from me to be a cock block. It's probably not news to you, but I don't mind giving up my social life because I don't have one. Not since August, anyway." And great, tears yet again were forming in her eyes. Mille looked away. "Sorry...." She wiped at her eyes. But it's been a shitty morning. My ex is the absolute biggest dumbass...." No matter how many times she told herself that, it didn't make it hurt any less, or make her any less angry. Edited by Mille Osset, Jun 5 2015, 10:52:35 PM.

"Aren't you a bit young to be dating?" Chaska couldn't help commenting. It was a running joke at this point, practically the only thing they had in common. Chaska's face contorted uncomfortably as he realized Mille was crying. Tears weren't his strong suit, "Please, uh, don't..." "I'll have you know I take the buddy system very seriously, so get it together and join me or spend all day learning grammar," Mille was right, Chaska was liable to go out and have a good time regardless of if she was there. That didn't mean she shouldn't come. Besides, he'd feel sorry leaving her here, looking all pathetic... |

Despite herself, Mille groaned and rolled her eyes. "Do you seriously need to card me, Chaska?" She asked, grabbing her pineapple printed, duct tape wallet out of her tote bag and opening it to the I.D. window, and setting it on the table in front of her companion. "Read it and weep." She wiped the tears from her cheeks again. Mille was so far beyond done it wasn't even funny anymore. "I'm good, just....you know what? Screw it." She grabbed her wand. "Accio book." The book returned to her hand and she stuffed it in her bag. "So, you want a tour around Hogsmeade, Mr. Godard? I'd be happy to oblige." |

"You've got pineapples on your wallet," Chaska snorted, he grabbed for Mille's wallet and admired how truly atrocious her ID photo was, "It's clearly a lie, anyone can make a fake ID," It was clear, at this point, that Chaska wasn't going to believe anything Mille said, "Although I don't see why you'd have used such a dreadful picture." Chaska's eyes sparkled as he watched her, "Perhaps not the most photogenic?" Chaska was nearly hit in the head by Mille's book, it didn't register, for a few moments, that she had decided to come. Plus, and this was really more important, she had stopped crying. "That's the spirit," Chaska agreed, pulling himself off the couch and extending his hand to her, "But it's Godard." He rolled his eyes, like he didn't particularly care, before grinning. Edited by Lisbeth Elliot, Jun 8 2015, 04:52:39 PM.
