Despite the heavy snowfall and the bitter cold, this was the place that she enjoyed being. Elandri Brooks sat cross legged on the cold stone floor between one of the many arch ways, her back hunched as her hand, and thick graphite pencil (from a muggle shop) worked with careful smooth movements as she sketched an image of owls sitting in the courtyard, though there were none, into a sketching book that her parent's had sent her as an unexpected gift before they'd gone off for the holiday.

It was early evening, and the light was slowly dimming all around her, making visibility somewhat difficult, yet she was determined to finish what she had started, glancing up every few moments to take in more detail to add to her sketch. While she wasn't particularly good, her work didn't look too bad - it was still a relaxing way to spend her time, and one that didn't involve anyone else. She was certain it was supper time though, but the hunger pangs, while they were present, weren't bad. Missing a meal wasn't the end of the world anyways, she had a few snacks hidden under her bed in a box in the dorm room.

After a while her mind wandered, her hand stopped moving and her eyes merely lingered on the bench which had a nice little mound of snow on it. Biting her lip, she placed her sketchbook and pencil on the ground beside her, standing slowly and dusting the seat of her jeans off before stepping into the snow that blanketed the ground of the courtyard. It was a rather sudden determination that overcame her, a silly smile taking over her features. She’d always liked the snow, clouds, rain and cold over sunshine and warmth. The world around her seemed so much more beautiful on a dark day.

She surprised herself even as she turned and fell backwards into the snow, giggling quietly as her arms and legs spread out and back in before she just stared up at the dark grey sky, smiling to herself. Despite her trousers and jacket getting wet, her spot in the snow angel was surprisingly comfortable - cold but comfortable.

//Wasn’t sure how to end it - leaving it open ended but I hope you can think of something. Let me know if you want me to add something.

Umbridge herself could say that she felt good despite the discomfort around her. Short legs scurried across the cold walkway as she headed down the path. She was dressed in a fluffy black cloak (ubiquitous pink cardigan draped around her shoulders), smirking all the while. She was determined to make the most of the nonsense that she'd had to endure that day.

No way anyone was going to see her flustered, MacGowan least of all. Umbridge was under no obligation to help the girl any further. She was out of control and was going to have to face the penalty and take her licks like a man--no, like a woman.

Umbridge was feeling pretty proud of herself. Today MacGowan, tomorrow maybe Osborn; that boy was the patronizing sort, and Dolores was not about to be made a fool of by some...some...uppity, sly, condescending, insensitive little mudblood!

Umbridge had just come out for air, hoping to collect herself. She took a deep breath, eyes closed. She hadn't been watching where she was stepping...

She'd closed her eyes and blocked the world out, the quiet early evening sounds the only soundtrack to her thoughts. Thoughts of how, despite the cold and how wet her clothing was slowly becoming, she was thoroughly enjoying the chilly breeze, the few new snow flakes falling and how each breath felt as if she was breathing in little needles.

Even though she'd had to stay put over the holidays, she'd thoroughly enjoyed herself. School was starting soon, and of course that meant she'd not be able to enjoy these sort of quiet moments with so few of her fellow students around. Of course, as soon as school began she had a new goal for herself. One that was rather daunting to have to think about. The mere thought of putting herself out there to make friends set her stomach in a knot.

Before she could dwell on this though, the very sharp pain of someone treading on her earned the stranger a startled yelp - El's hands flew up to try and push the person away so she could scramble to her feet, missing completely. She could only see the black of a cloak, the bright pink of something else. "Getoff!" she squeaked at that same instance. "Didn't you look where you were going?" she asked with a tone of utter astonishment. Whoever this was obviously hadn't been watching where they were going... The idea that it could have been deliberate passed through her head for a mere moment, though it just seemed too dramatic.

Umbridge took a deep breath of cold, crisp, refreshing air. It felt...new. It felt as though she was on top of the world. She'd been pushed around long enough, tried unsuccessfully to worm her way into the elite, only to be rebuffed. Screw them! Umbridge would make her own way, with her own intelligence and cunning. She felt calm and in control in this. She was confident: 2034 was going to be the year of Umbridge! The other Slytherin like to think that they rule Hogwarts? Dolores was going to be running this place one day! Screw Osborn, screw them all! She was a strong, powerful, independent, beautiful woman and this was the start of her empire! She was on top of this! On top of it all! The earth moved beneath her feet!

--Wait a minute. Umbridge felt herself wobble. The earth really was moving beneath her feet.

"Getoff!"

"Oh--woah!"

Uneasy shocks radiated from her lower gut as Umbridge felt her equilibrium shift downward.

"Eeeeeuuuuuhk!" she shrieked.

She saw the horizon, and saw that it was moving upwards above her head as the ground rose to meet her.

"Uff!"

The landing knocked the wind out of her. She'd barely managed to throw her hands in front of her in order to keep herself from smashing her chin on the cold, snowy ground. She winced in the snow, not yet able to take a deep enough breath to clear her cognitive functions of the shock.

When she was finally able to take more than a shallow breath, she groaned. Despite that fact that she was wearing mittens, her hands felt like thousands of little knives had punctured them. Something--or someone was still underneath her legs, and shifting violently.

"Didn't you look where you were going?"

"Uh...nih...."

Umbridge slid away before turning around to see one of her classmates on the ground. Now wasn't the time to show incompetence.

"...Yeah."

Her buggy eyes narrowed till she resembled a lizard ready to strike at a juicy insect. Brooks was one such insect.

"Here," she asserted, holding out her hand so as to help Brooks to her feet, "But you know: You should not have been lying there in the snow. You were positively asking to get stepped on."
