Dave strode onto the quidditch pitch with two brooms slung over his shoulder. He'd brought out his Nimbus and retrieved one of the old practice brooms in preparation for his lunch date with Elandri, also carrying a satchel full of food that he'd nicked from the kitchen. Dave took a deep breath as his heavy boots crunched through the snow. Thankfully, the sun was shining bright, and though the air was chilly, the sunlight reflecting off of the snow made the day seem warmer than it actually was. All the same, Dave had remembered to bring his cold-weather flying gear, which included a cover for his face, thick protective gloves, and a fuzzy hat. When he finally crossed the pitch and reached the bleachers, Dave threw down his satchel, gear, and the second broom, leaving himself with nothing but his Nimbus in his hands. Like he'd done a hundred times before, Dave swung his leg over the broom, and within seconds, he was soaring high over the pitch. The cold air stung against Dave's exposed skin on his hands and face, but it invigorated him at the same time. Taking a moment to center himself, Dave focused on the sounds, sights, and feelings he was currently experiencing. He wasn't exactly sure when he'd started practicing this technique, but it had done wonders for keeping him grounded in the moment and not worry about the past or the future, albeit, not entirely. After all, it would have been impossible for Dave to forget that Elandri was due to show up soon. Perhaps thinking just a little into the future wasn't all that bad. |

The morning had felt like it had dragged by. At a snail's pace. It had been painful. Elandri had always enjoyed her classes but with the prospect of learning to fly and having lunch with Dave McKelvey on her mind it was very difficult to put up with the minutes passing so slowly. She'd done something she never imaged she'd do in school - she'd packed up early, her legs bouncing in anticipation for the final minute of class to pass before bolting for the door, pulling out her woolen hat, scarf and warm gloves as she raced down the corridors towards the grounds, dressing warmly as she went. The cool air was a welcomed relief in comparison to the relative warmth of the castle. She took her time to get down to the Quidditch pitch, making sure she didn't trip on the way. She stopped in the hall leading to the field, her hand resting in the cold wall as she caught her breath before straightening up and walking into the field, her eyes focusing up onto the figure suspended in the air almost instantly. Dave. "Hello there!" she called, feeling like an idiot for not being able to come up with something better but grinning from ear to ear as the familiar fuzzy feeling in her stomach at seeing him again fluttered to life, the memories of the night before flooding back. Dave felt a jolt of excitement when he spotted a familiar silhouette crossing the quidditch pitch beneath him. He did a quick lap around the pitch on the back of his broom, gradually diving lower toward the ground. He slowed his speed as he approached, not wanting to scare Elandri by barrelling toward her at a breakneck pace. "You made it!" Dave hollered when he got into earshot of his quarry. He pulled up beside Elandri as she walked, expertly dismounting his broom and matching her pace in one fluid motion. Gripping his Nimbus in one hand, Dave moved toward Elandri and wrapped his other arm around her lower back, then pulled her toward him. "Hey. Do I know you from somewhere?" he joked, smiling down at the girl exactly as he had the night before. Elandri's eyes were much more vibrant in the daylight. "You must be new," Dave went on, trying his best to remain serious, "because I definitely would have noticed someone as cute as you before now." He smirked. His comment was a slight jab at himself, as he certainly hadn't paid Elandri any attention before yesterday, but now that he'd gotten a good look at her, Dave couldn't peel his eyes away. |

"I wouldn't miss it for the world!" she called back, watching him with a look of admiration in her eyes as he slowed and landed, her face splitting into a grin as he approached her. It was very hard to tear her eyes off of him with how confidently he moved. It was, for lack of better words, beautiful. Elandri came to a stop in front of him, his arm enveloping her in an embrace like they had shared the night before. Her arms wrapped about his waist as he spoke. For one fleeting moment she felt slightly self-conscious but it was drowned out instantly as she laughed and shook her head. "Well I'm awfully glad I made such a lasting impression," she said between bouts of laughter, her eyes alight with amusement as she looked up into his handsome face. He'd been stunning by firelight last night and it had been difficult to not notice it, but now, with such bright sunshine and such a lovely day it was very easy to notice, especially the endless blue of his eyes and the way he smirked which very few people could pull off and make look dashing. Elandri was doing her best to keep her eyes off his lips especially. They'd been in her dreams that night. "So, what plans could two apparently total strangers have for now?" The girl asked, smiling broadly and stepping out of his embrace, taking his free hand in hers. Edited by Elandri Brooks, Aug 28 2016, 03:58:32 PM.

Dave couldn't help but laugh a little when Elandri took his gloved hand in her own. There was something humourous and innocent about holding hands despite wearing winter gloves. It was awkward and endearing, but it was the little things like this that made new relationships so exciting. Perhaps Dave and Elandri would look back and share a laugh about it one day. "Well, I was able to escape from class a few minutes early on 'prefect business', but what I actually did was duck down to the kitchens to grab some hot food for us before the elves sent it up to the tables. Did you mention that you'd been to the kitchens before?" Dave asked, nodding his head toward the bleachers where he'd left the satchel of goodies. He casually slung his broom over his shoulder with his other hand and lead Elandri across the pitch. "I thought we could hang out and snack for a bit before we get to the actual flying," Dave explained. "I try not to fly on an empty stomach because it takes a lot out of you, but I wouldn't eat too much," he went on with a quick laugh. "I remember one time in fifth year we had a new recruit throw up his dinner when he was going in to score. He didn't get the quaffle into the hoop, but he got James pretty good." Dave exhaled sharply. That was one of the first and only times he'd ever seen James genuinely embarrassed, and of course, the other Marauders hadn't let him live it down for at least a month. As Dave and Elandri closed the distance to the bleachers, Dave pulled away for a moment to set his Nimbus aside and took a seat. He began unwrapping the food. "I wasn't sure what you like to eat, so I grabbed a bit of everything," he explained, then pointed his wand into the bag to summon a collection of food containers, which arranged themselves into a perfect grid on the wooden bench. Pleased with his handiwork, Dave hummed to himself and grabbed a couple of french fries. |

Elandri blushed lightly and smiled as Dave laughed in such a carefree manner. It made the nervousness subside somewhat as the level of comfort she'd felt the night before slowly returned as they walked mitt in mitt to the bleachers. "Well I'm growing still... hopefully... and snacking during exams is always fun." she said with a grin. She also enjoyed just spending time down in the kitchen at times. The elves, while very subservient and submissive in their ways seemed very friendly so long as one avoided certain topics which she'd made sure to do. It was interesting to try and see the world through their very large saucer-like eyes. She listened as he spoke, her smile broadening with what she was learning about his best friends and having to take note of a fundamental rule for flying apparently. At least she knew to eat and let it all settle before flying! "Yeah, it would be better to avoid the .. uh.. chunky fireworks!" She said, immediately wanting to slap herself for saying something so gross. It was out there though. She took a seat on the opposite side of the small boxes he'd brought with him. Elandri was pleasantly surprised with the options. Much to her dismay her stomach growled audibly, making her shut her eyes for a moment and fight off an embarrassed smile. For such a small and skinny girl she did have a large appetite but was determined not to over eat after what he'd said. She picked up a few chips as well, eating them one at a time as she looked out over the pitch and the sky before over at Dave himself, studying the boy's features. "I'm surprised I got any sleep last night - was so excited for this... Speaking to Rachel last night just made today seem even better." she blurted out before smiling again and taking a deep breath. Chunky fireworks. That had caught Dave off guard. He laughed heartily, both at Elandri's choice of words, and her mildly awkward delivery. Dave could handle crude humour, but it seemed so much more out of place coming from Elandri, which only made it all the more entertaining. "That's actually a pretty good description, I'd say," Dave admitted, not wanting embarrass the girl; the last thing he wanted was for Elandri to feel that he was laughing at her. "James was pretty mad, and since then, we've enacted a rule that no one is allowed to eat at least a half hour before practice. My favourite part is explaining why," Dave went on with a grin. The vomiting chaser story was one of the only things Dave had on James, who was otherwise squeaky clean. Dave sighed slightly at the mention of Rachel. He supposed it was only a matter of time before the subject was brought up again, especially as neither Elandri nor Dave could avoid the girl forever. But what did Elandri mean? The two had spoken? Dave raised an eyebrow and probed for more information. "Last night as in after you got back to your room?" he asked for clarification. Dave was surprised at the idea that Rachel and Elandri had confronted each other already, as both girls seemed very avoidant when it came to conflict, though perhaps it was too early to judge Elandri just yet. Dave had conveniently avoided the Great Hall that morning, fearing an interrogation from Julianna about why Rachel was upset. It generally didn't take long for the elder sister to find out that something was wrong. "Was everything alright?" Dave wondered. He couldn't imagine Rachel getting aggressive or saying anything mean, and he couldn't imagine how the girls had any time to speak at all given that they shared their room with other people. |

"Oh I can see how that would be highly amusing!" She said while laughing. It hit home pretty hard that that was something that would stop after this year for the students who'd be joining the team. Then again, perhaps the next generation would find something amusing for themselves. Elandri was determined not to let the fact that this year was the end of a whole era, she was determined not to let it ruin her mood, and especially not let the fact that she'd just realised they had limited time to spend together dampen her spirits. She was just going to enjoy every day as it came, and make the most of each moment. Elandri nodded when Dave asked where they'd spoken. Her expression was relaxed and carefree, devoid of any of the overwhelming stress she had felt the night before when she'd run into Rachel. "Yeah, I bumped into her in the restroom and we had about as good a talk as one can imagine I suppose - I don't know how these things usually go. I've never been in this sort of predicament before, but she ... She at least seems okay with this." Elandri looked away from his eyes and focused on the bench between them, her hands wringing about between themselves to warm them up before she started playing with the hem of her thick winter coat. "I didn't think I'd run into anyone that late at night but she was getting ready for bed and it just felt right to... going to sound so childish... but ask her permission? It sounds incredibly weird, sorry..." Elandri smiled sheepishly and bit her bottom lip for a moment before looking up with a slightly worried expression on her face. |

Hearing those words didn't make Dave overtly happy. In fact, it was kind of upsetting, but as always, he did his best to hide his feelings. The last thing he wanted was to be seen as weak. The corners of Dave's lips dropped slightly. He had a lot of love for Rachel, but right now, he couldn't help but feel frustrated at the girl for getting him into this predicament. Why was it Dave's fault that some girl had a crush on him? He'd never done anything to lead her on. In fact, Dave had hardly paid any romantic interest to Rachel at all. She just seemed more like a younger sister than anything else, even if she did have a certain beauty about her. Dave rolled his eyes subtly. He hated not being in control, and the idea of Rachel's crush having an impact on his romantic prospects frustrated him deeply. What if other girls had stayed away because of how obvious Rachel's near-obsession was? Dave wanted to kick himself for letting it go this far. He'd never bothered to shut it down because the way that Rachel looked at him fed his ego in a significant way, and if he was honest with himself, he'd always seen her as a potential romantic partner... in the future. Dave exhaled, realizing that he'd been brooding in awkward silence while Elandri waited for a response. He blinked for the first time in nearly twenty seconds and felt a cold sting in his eyes. "It is weird, but mostly just annoying," Dave blurted, and he regretted his choice of words immediately. He didn't want Elandri thinking that he was talking about her. "I mean, let me rephrase: I don't like that someone I'm not with could have any say about who I can and can't date. Would you have backed off if she'd not given permission?" Dave asked. The thought was nearly unbearable for his teenaged brain, which was currently high on the newness that Elandri brought. "Because that would just suck. Is that how people think of me? Am I just the head boy who happens to be Rachel's property?" Dave bit his tongue. He sounded frustrated, but he didn't want Elandri to think it was her fault. He wanted this to work so badly, and the thought of Rachel's childish crush getting in the way was infuriating. |

The seconds seemed to drag by so slowly they felt like hours as she waited for a response of any sort. She'd had to look down after a moment because she couldn't bear to look at Dave any more while he seemed to brood over what had been said and his own thoughts. What had she done? Elandri was starting to panic just a little, her mind swimming with ideas of how she could backtrack and fix something that she was quite certain she had broken at this point. She desperately wanted to apologise for having even brought it up, but she couldn't bring herself to dare talk. Her throat had seemingly closed up, dried up - she couldn't get a word out. Elandri slipped a foot away from Dave on the bench and swung her leg around so she was facing towards the pitch, her elbows resting on her knees and her eyes firmly fixed on the floor. The pang of guilt was greater just doubled when he finally did speak. Her heart felt as if it had been clenched by a fist; she had to close her eyes and hold her breath to keep everything she felt on the inside and not let it out in the most embarrassing way she usually did. 'I'm sorry... I'm so sorry...' she said, in her head. As he continued to speak, she realised the situation he'd been put into by everything, but there wasn't a chance in hell that it was going to ruin things if she could help it. His concluding question made her frown and look over at him. She wasn't sure how to respond to him about his questions. "I don't think anyone thinks of you that way... At least I hope not..." Elandri stood slowly and shuffled closer to Dave before taking a seat on the bench below him, taking his hand on impulse and rubbing his knuckles with her thumb. "I wouldn't have backed off. Because, I do like you - you make me happy, and I want to get to know you. No one was or is going to get in the way of that... for so long as you want that, if... if you still want that." She let his hand go and clasped both hers together. "I'm sorry for even engaging with her as far as this goes... I just didn't want there to be anything weird between her and I considering we share a room and well, I'm sure you know how utterly bitchy people can be at times. I don't know what I was thinking - I really am sorry." Elandri took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a moment. |

It didn't take much for Dave to suddenly share some of Elandri's guilt. It wasn't her fault, and the way that she spoke brought him a lot of hope. She was so kind and understanding, and was only looking out for everyone's best interest. Elandri's thoughtfulness and the fact that she cared about a stranger like Rachel and her feelings only helped to make Dave more attracted. Ariella would have never cared, and Sirius probably wouldn't either. Dave stared at Elandri and smiled when she moved closer and took his hand in her own, rubbing his broad, rough knuckles with her tiny fingers. She seemed far too sweet to be true, and yet, here she was in front of him. Dave moved down to the next bench to sit directly beside her. "No, I get it," Dave said, taking on a lighter tone as he placed an arm around Elandri. "I got so caught up in my own problems that I didn't even think of how awkward it might be for you having to live with her. I'm sorry that I didn't consider that, and I'm glad that you want this as much as I do." Dave placed his free hand on Elandri's leg and playfully squeezed the spot just above her knee before taking one of her hands in his own. |

"It wasn't your problem to worry about, Dave. You don't have to apologise for anything," she said quietly, grateful that he was so close again, that he'd wrapped an arm about her. She sighed softly and rested against him ever so slightly, enjoying the added warmth he provided. "It's like you said last night - it shouldn't be your job to make everyone else feel happy." Her cheeks were burning slightly both with the cold and from the flustered feeling she felt as Dave squeezed her thigh. It felt foreign, incredibly pleasant and nerve wrecking all at once. She happily squeezed his hand when he took one of hers. Elandri managed a smile again, her head resting on his shoulder. "I really do want this; so, I suppose the only people who can come between us is ourselves... and our food is getting cold." she concluded with a laugh, reaching forward and pulling one of the boxes off the bench and placed it on both their laps; crumbed chicken, and took a piece for herself in one hand. Dave smirked. He'd so often gotten caught in the trap of overthinking virtually everything. It was a bad habit that he'd yet to break, and he had no idea where it had come from; it had simply come as a package deal with the rest of his teenaged angst and hormones. Laughing gently, Dave pushed his anxieties from his mind and did his best to focus on the here and now. He focused on the warmth building between Elandri and himself, which ran in stark contrast to the crisp, January air that hung around them. It was almost as if there was a special kind of energy between the two beings that seemed to defy nature. "You're too nice for a guy like me," Dave declared with a laugh. He reached down and tossed a few fries into his mouth and smiled as he chewed. Elandri was right; the food had become cold, but Dave had his fill, and he was ready to fly. He stood up and raised his arms over his head, stretching as if he'd just awoken from a deep sleep, but really, he was finally ready to have some fun. "Let's get to it, then." Dave leaped down from the bleachers and took a deep breath, suddenly feeling very limber. "How comfortable would you say you are with flying? You said it's been a while?" he asked, looking over at Elandri. He'd grabbed a practice broom from the school's storage for Elandri to use because he knew it could be dangerous to get her on his Nimbus right away, but he had an idea. |

Elandri felt her cheeks turn a few shades redder at his remark, a retort of "nonsense" wanting to bubble up instantly. She smiled though, shaking her head ever so slightly as she decied to go for the more witty retort of the two that came to mind. "I'll let you know if I ever choose to believe that." she said, smiling lopsided as she watched him in a carefree manner, eating a few more chicken strips - they could be ice cold and partially frozen and she'd still have scoffed them. Dave's sudden movement caught her off guard as most quick movements seemed to do, her immediate response being to stop what she was doing and look at the person in question. He seemed quite ready to get going and she wasn't going to complain. He'd warned her not to overeat and she'd have done just that if he hadn't moved to get up. She swallowed quickly and wiped her fingers on the bottom of her pants discretely before hopping up as well and following Dave onto the pitch. The butterflies were swarming uncomfortably once again - she was grateful she'd not had much to eat. "A good four years, yeah. I wouldn't say I'm comfortable - I can only remember the basics. Maybe it'd be best to just... treat me like a complete noob and start from scratch! Treat me like clay, you know? I'm a lump of clay for you to mold into a flying machine... Or disaster." Elandri's tone was light and excitable but there was a definite undertone of nervousness and even slight dread. Now that it was actually happening she was terrified. She'd always been a perfectionist with anything she did, and the thought of totally failing at flying was almost unbearable. She had as good a teacher as any now though. The girl had complete faith in his skills, after all. "So, how're we going to do this?" she asked, her hands rubbing together as she bounced nervously on the balls of her feet. Dave stood tall and rubbed the bottom of his chin, which was rough with the prickly stubble of early manhood. A mildly devious grin came across his face. "Well, I was going to say I could take you through the basics, have you float around on the practice broom for a bit, then maybe take you around the pitch a few times, but what's the fun in that?" Still smirking, Dave tightened his flying gloves and felt their familiar warmth against his fingers. He quickly pulled out his wand and took one of Elandri's gloved hands in his own. "But first, let's make sure you don't lose any of your digits to frostbite," Dave murmured. "The air gets ten times colder when you're whipping through it at breakneck speeds, and numb fingers are not good if you want any hope of being able to stay on your broom." "Here," he said quietly, whispering a quick spell while aiming the tip of his wand at Elandri's gloves. "My gloves are made for flying in cold weather, and they're enchanted to keep my fingers warm, but this should do just fine for you," Dave explained. He soon did the same thing with her scarf, then wrapped his own over his nose and mouth, leaving only his eyes exposed. He waited for Elandri to do the same before continuing. "Anyway, instead of doing all that boring stuff, why don't you climb onto my broom with me so you can reorient yourself with being in the air?" Dave suggested, though it was clear that he wasn't about to take no for an answer, as he quickly retrieved his broom and began to mount it, but shuffled forward to make space for Elandri behind him. "Hop on and hold on tight," he instructed, then quickly added with a quick laugh, "I promise I won't go upside down too many times." |

Dave had managed to make Elandri go from relatively calm to nervous in the space of a few short seconds. Elandri was mute with shock as she processed what Dave was saying, trying her best to remain composed as she thought of any excuse to shoot his plan down. Her mind was drawing a blank though. She couldn't think of anything as she held her gloved hands out and let Dave enchant them along with her scarf. She followed suit and wrapped her own scarf about the lower half of her face all the while wondering if her winter clothes would keep the cold out completely. The thought passed as quickly as it came as the girl chose to rather just enjoy his apparent giddiness as he explained everything to her with as much enthusiasm as ever. It eased her mounting nervousness slightly, but not enough for her to remain completely muted. "Are you sure you want to drop the kid gloves and go straight for the big league?" She asked quickly, stifling a nervous laugh as she watched him mount his broom, nervously climbing on, her stomach feeling as if it'd dropped out from under herself. Elandri wrapped her arms about Dave's midsection. "Wait what?! What do you mean upside down; you're going to scare me off flying for a while if you do that!" Elandri squeaked, completely forgetting the practicing and going straight to her being expected to hang on to him for dear life, (while it did hold quite a few positives) was a frightening idea. She wasn't completely serious about being scared off from flying though. It would certainly shake her to her core for a short while, but if there was one thing that Elandri was not, it was a coward. She would take on the seemingly gargantuan challenge again if they decided to do this again after today. "If this goes well, can we try the boring stuff?" The girl laughed nervously, glad to be out of his line of sight, smiling despite herself as she enjoyed holding him close and the warmth that radiated from him. She was trying with all her might to ignore what little of his scent she could smell, her head swimming just slightly. There were definitely positive aspects for this rather frightful arrangement. "Am I holding on too tight? Just tell me if I am." She said absentmindedly, her arms locking a little more firmly about him. She wasn't going to fall off today. |

"Absolutely," Dave answered confidently. What point would there be to flying if the goal wasn't to make it to the big leagues, after all? Although Amelia had always been the dreamer of the dangerous duo, the pressure of graduation had begun to weigh on Dave. Both of his parents were famous and successful, and who was he? Who would he become? Dave Jr. had no special powers or talents to fall back on besides being bear-sized and hard-headed. He had no interest in teaching or healing, so his path into adulthood would be completely uncharted. At this point, flying seemed to be an easy way out. "Just relax and breathe," Dave insisted. His voice was stern, but calm, collected, and gentle at the same time. Smirking, he slipped his non-dominant hand in toward his torso and gripped one of Elandri's gloved hands, which were draped around his midsection. For a moment, Dave's breath caught his throat as his heart and lungs fluttered with excitement. He could feel Elandri's chest pressed against his back, and though she was much smaller than him, the girl's embrace made Dave feel protected. There was a certain sense of irony to the feeling, and it made him feel giddy. All at once, Dave squeezed Elandri's hand and pushed against the cold ground, quickly feeling the earth move away from him. His Nimbus handled the weight of an extra person with grace, though Dave knew that it would be less maneuverable and harder to balance. Even if he'd given Elandri the impression that she was in for some high-flying acrobatics, Dave wouldn't dare try anything dangerous. Not too dangerous, that is. Dave squinted as he pointed his broom toward the endless sea of blue. It was a cloudless day, and the winter sun shined through the heavens unadulterated, which made it hard to see. Nonetheless, he pushed forward against the rush of cold air and bright sky. "You're not afraid of heights, are you?" Dave asked as he leveled out the broom and decreased its speed. Peering toward the castle, Dave could see that he and Elandri were roughly level with the tip of the highest tower. He gripped the girl's hand tight and breathed deep. |

Relax and breath... She took a deep breath and let it out, but struggled to relax for a moment. Relax and breath... Relax and breath... Elandri decided that was going to be her new mantra when around the boy. She felt nervous, but not scared. As soon as she felt his gloved hand over hers she knew that she'd be alright. The feeling of weightlessness was instant as he kicked off the ground. Elandri hadn't felt the feeling in ages, not since her parents had taken her on holiday back to where they'd come from. But it had been the opposite then. Almost. Airplanes had nothing on brooms. Elandri had shut her eyes tightly and buried her face against Dave's back, her arms wrapping about him tighter. It had taken every ounce of self control to not wrap her legs about him as well. She couldn't even bring herself to imagine what kind of danger that would put them in. She'd made certain to grit her teeth and not make a sound. It was only when Dave spoke that she realised that the feeling of them ascending had stopped. She didn't know how high up they had climbed, or where they had headed to. Was she afraid of heights? "I don't know... I haven't opened my eyes yet." She admitted with a laugh, opening her eyes and removing her face from Dave's back, looking out over the castle, the landscape, and finally the pitch below them and the grounds. "Wow," she whispered quietly. It all looked far smaller from up here, and much larger at the same time. The feeling that she was going to fall made her head spin. Relax and breath... she took another deep breath and rested her cheek against his back once again. The feeling faded slowly, thankfully. "I could live up here... stationary." the girl said, laughing quietly. This wasn't something she'd forget. And if she ever had the chance to fly again after this, this would be her goal. Reaching such heights on her own, to enjoy the view and the feeling of freedom and power that came with it. Edited by Elandri Brooks, Apr 1 2017, 12:47:13 PM.

Dave laughed, wishing he could see Elandri holding on for life with her eyes locked shut. He took another deep breath of the frigid air before speaking again. "Sometimes I wish I could fly without a broom," he shared. The thought had slipped through Dave's mind and onto his lips almost subconsciously. He chuckled in spite of himself. "Maybe I need to change my answer from last night, about being an animagus. Being an eagle would be pretty cool... but maybe not. Too Ravenclaw." Dave exhaled through his nose. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to represent his mother's house. Enjoying himself, Dave tipped the nose of his broom downward and began a very slow descent. He thought that the initial takeoff would be more than enough excitement for a while, instead electing to take Elandri on a more scenic (and relaxed) ride. As the pair hovered over the Forbidden Forest, Dave pointed. "Back there is where the centaur territory starts," he explained, tracing an imaginary border with his finger. The forest went for quite a distance in several directions, and was significantly denser toward its middle, where the trees grew tallest. "My dad usually doesn't push too hard about me not getting in trouble, but if there's one thing he was completely serious about, it's that you don't mess with the centaurs. I'm pretty sure he knows that my friends and I get up to mischief in the forest, but he's always cautioned me about that part in particular." Dave frowned slightly. Part of him had always wanted to delve deeper into the forest, but the sensible part, however small it was, always stopped him. The centaurs were not above killing wizards who encroached on their territory, and the last thing the Marauders wanted was the centaurs to find out about Remus. Dave assumed that finding a werewolf on their lands would cause an uproar. Coming back to the moment, Dave stopped his broom as he rounded out a turn, which pointed him and Elandri directly at the castle. They were still high above the forest, and Dave wished he could somehow turn around and see his companion. He squeezed her hand affectionately in lieu of that. "So, is it all you could have imagined?" he asked. |

Elandri couldn’t help but smile at Dave’s sudden exclamation. ”I don’t know, I could see you as an eagle. Though, yeah, perhaps it would be too Ravenclaw. Maybe an owl? Your night vision would be ridiculously good.” she commented. ” I wouldn’t mind being a owl at all. But I don’t know if I would ever want to be human again if I could fly like this. Could totally eat a vole and be happy with life…” Her small ramble came to an end shortly after that comment. Her arms tightened about Dave again as the broom turned, however slowly. The movement had caught her somewhat off guard and for a moment she had feared that it would have been the start of their ‘lesson’. Much to her delight though, he was taking it nice and slow. She didn’t relax her grip though, not till they had come to a stop. This time, however, she had been able to at least keep her eyes open. She'd been peering down at the ground as they descended, imagining what it would be like to push the nose down and dive towards the tree line. Elandri was glad though, that that was not the case. She'd eventually get to that point on her own perhaps... one day. The girl looked out over the forest, her eyes following Dave's finger to where he was pointing. The centaurs were definitely not the crowd that anyone wanted to get caught up with. ”Your dad certainly isn't wrong. Though… now I have to ask, what do you you all get up to in the forest anyways?” she asked, peering down at the forest below and trying to find the spot where she had seen Fikk. Surely they would have seen the bear if they spent enough time in the forest. Her thoughts shifted to the bear, and her stomach clenched into an excited knot once again as the realisation that she'd been so close to him washed over her again. It was the warmth of Dave's gloved hand over hers though that brought her back to their current high perch. The urge to be able to hold his hand again was almost unbearable. Instead she just enjoyed the feeling of his hand over hers, contemplating the question for only a moment. Elandri rested her chin on Dave's shoulder and hummed quietly. ”Bit shake on the take off, but it's more than I could ever have imagined. It's absolutely amazing up here. I get why flying can be addicting now. This has really made me want to take it up and learn, however slowly. And maybe one day, one day we can take a flight together. I like the idea of that. I'm sure I could convince my folks to get me a broom eventually. They still find it highly amusing that brooms are used for flight. ” she said with a half a laugh. ”Is there a limit to how high or far out we can fly? Is there a barrier to prevent students getting out via broom?” |
