HIRP REBORN LEXICON
This is a lexicon for terms in Hogwarts Interactive Role Play. There are many objects, plot items, and terms that do not exist in the Harry Potter lore that feature heavily on HIRP Reborn. If you're interested in the generation one lexicon, you can view it here!

Requests for additional terms or entries in the lexicon can be sent to any of the site staff.

Azariah Amarath - Defeated June, 2014 by the combined power of the elementium. Also known as The Dark Lord, and the leader of The Knights of Walpurgis (see Knights of Walpurgis).

His mantra, "No Gods. No Kings. Only Man," spoke for his intentions to topple the government, allowing all beings on this earth to do as they will. A being of chaos, Azariah rarely moved against the government or the people himself. Instead, he attempted to prove his philosophy through the actions of his Knights and the reactions of the people.

Little has been discovered about Azariah's past. A connection has been made between Azariah and a trial for a man who had been sentenced with an inconceivable punishment: the removal of his magical powers. It is believed that without his own magic, Azariah found a strong connection to the Elementium, which is a magic of the physical existence itself (see Elementium).

Azariah himself has been confirmed to be hardly human at all, but a sort of conscious energy (much like the Higher Plane) in physical form. He was an avatar of the physical elements of the Earth itself--the elementium itself made into a human-like form.

Canon Characters - On HIRP, we allow people to roleplay all canon characters. We have characters from the Marauder era in with the same year as characters from the Potter era, we also have characters who have been gender swapped. Below is a list of characters who were a part of the first generation of HIRP, who are now adults, and canon characters in the current generation with links to their current character sheets if they are available. This list will consist of characters who have been made on the site or who cannot be made because of plot significance. Anyone not on the list can be made.

Some of these characters now have children, while others have sisters and brothers who weren’t in the books so if you are making a canon character related to some of these make sure to read their character sheets.

Old Site Character Sheets are coloured black.

Elementium - The magical ability to control the elements. The elements covered by this magic are fire, water, ice, electricity, air, earth, nature, light, dark, while the universal power gives governance over all. Each elementium is different due to the nature of the element it governs, as well as the due to the user themselves.

Elementium is a physical manifestation of pure magical energy that has crossed into the physical plane. With the destruction of the Department of Mysteries in November, 2010, the veil (see The Veil), a link between the physical and magical plane was destroyed, which created a rift, causing a burst of magical energy to spill through the physical word. This allowed Azariah Amaranth (see Azariah Amaranth) to imbue a select few individuals with the innate ability to influence the physical world, wherein which the individuals' personalities would dictate their aligned element.

It was later discovered that Azariah's destruction, as well as his attempt to reach the higher magical plane, left another rift in the physical plane for magical energy to seep through. Within a few years after Azariah's death, reports of children with minor elementium power began to reach the ministry, and a new commission was created to investigate. As it turns out, the magical energy that seeped into the physical plane created a mutation in the magic gene, which allows for elementium to manifest itself in anyone born to parents who were alive during the final battle. This new wave of elementium is also subject to the ministry's previous legislation regarding licensing, but it is not uncommon for parents to hide or attempt to suppress their children's potential abilities so as to avoid scrutiny by the magical world, which still does not trust the elementium as a whole.

The word "elementium" can refer to the ability as a whole, as well as a group of individuals with this ability (elementium plural, elementus singular). When referring to "elementium", one would be referring to the actual power of elemental control, while saying "the elementium" would be referring to the original group of witches and wizards imbued with this power.

Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration - When properly transfigured, a substance that has been conjured, enlarged, multiplied and so on should retain the same strength of properties as its original.

The Five Principal Exceptions
1. Food
Cannot be conjured, but may be duplicated, transfigured into, or summoned if it already exists. A duplicated, transfigured or summoned piece of food will carry on rot/etc. but there are no further repercussions.
2. Life
While creations that resemble living creatures may be conjured, a real creature is impossibe. One cannot make an object truly alive, nor bring back life.
3. Dead Tissue
Cannot be conjured, and is difficult to duplicate depending on complexity. It may be transfigured and summoned. Cursed/dead flesh can't be returned to life and may be resistant to healing.
4. Minerals
Cannot be conjured or duplicated. Other objects can be transfigured into something resembling minerals, but the result takes on the physical properties of the original object. It can be summoned.
5. Complex Objects
Cannot be conjured. It can be duplicated (subject to other rules) and summoned. Varying difficulty to transfigure into (and still subject to the other rules, ie: metal objects). Consumer items (sweets, books, clothes) and magical artifacts are enchanted to be impossible to duplicate.

The Higher Plane - A realm referred to as the "Higher Plane" by all who have a deep connection to the place. In actuality, all living things share a connection to this place. To the centaurs, it is the Unconscious Domain a place where all knowledge is stored, and all things are connected. It is from here, they believe that all seers receive their visions of the future, a place that can only be visited by them and a perhaps a few human beings, and only when in a trance.

It is believed to be the realm where all vanished objects go, and from where objects can be conjured. This would make the Higher Plane not an actual place, but a state of being. As quoted from Professor McGonagall in The Deathly Hallows, vanished objects go into "non-being, that is to say, everything."

Other than that, there is little more known or even theorized about this place. The veil, which stood in the Department of Mysteries on the lowest floor of the Ministry of Magic before its destruction--in which the veil was also obliterated--was revealed by Azariah Amaranth to be a doorway to this "realm". As the room which contained the archway was known as "the death room", and those who have seen death are said to hear "voices" emanating from it (as indicated in The Order of the Phoenix), it can be surmised that the Higher Plane is also the state of being into which the souls of the dead are taken.

The Knights of Walpurgis - A former group of Dark witches and wizards bent on the toppling of the wizarding government. The K.O.W. plotted the government's downfall and preached of a day when everyone is free to do whatever is they will and seek whatever it is they desire. Unlike the man around whom they rallied, Azariah Amaranth (see "Azariah Amaranth"), the Knights have been known to be violent and bloodthirsty.

The masks that each Knight wore not only serves as a disguise to keep his or her antics as a Knight from affecting their public faces, the masks hold a significant meaning to each Knight. Feeling that their "public face" and all the names, titles, and responsibilities their public lives forced upon them only belied their true selves, the Knights wore these masks to remove the "false identities" with which they feel they have been branded, often referring to his or her mask as his or her "true face".

The Knights of Walpurgis were named for "Walpurgis Night", the night opposite Halloween on the calendar.

Pureblood - A pureblood is a witch or wizard who claims to have only wizard ancestors. The term is heavily connected to a prominent group of wizard supremacists, who believe that someone with traceable non-magical ancestry are inherently inferior. This belief has seeped into the consciousness of the wizarding community as a whole. Many non-supremacists still hold the belief that purebloods are naturally more powerful.

Although it is strongly suggested that a purely magical ancestry is impossible, the pureblood ideology remains strong. Pureblood supremacists hold many of the positions with significant power, as well as having the wealth and influence to force any undesired people to resign. An example is former Minister for Magic Nobby Leach, who left his post due to a shady plot. It was widely believed that Abraxas Malfoy was part of the plot that made him leave his post prematurely.

The Squires of Walpurgis - A student organization started by Julian Kahn. The Squires were essentially a tool for the Knights of Walpurgis to indocrinate children, or, at the very least, create more chaos that could only serve to feed Azariah Amaranths message.

The Veil - An old stone archway was housed within an area of the Department of Mysteries known as the "Death Room". The archway has been confirmed to be the door to the realm of the dead, more specifically where the souls of living things go when they die. A few people, a rare few, have even reported hearing voices when standing near the veiled archway, feeling as though there are are people hiding just behind the veil. The veil itself is a complicated and ancient bit of magic designed for holding something back, but what no one knows--or if they know, they are not telling. The true purpose of the veil and the archway is known only to the unspeakables who work in the Department of Mysteries, and enchantments have been placed upon them so that they cannot divulge its secrets. (see The Higher Plane.)

In any case, the veil and the archway both are now gone, their secrets lost in the destruction the Dark Lord has left in his wake along with all of the Department of Mysteries.
