"It wasn't me," He said monotonously. Ted waved his wand, and the brown liquid swirled inside the cup. "I don't play games with little girls, Dolly." Ted hated being accused of actions he wasn't responsible for, and Dolores was a constant violator of that. He wanted to shove her off her chair for being dumb, but he knew better than to cause a scene.

"Looks like someone is really after you." said Ted as he raised the cup to his lips. He took a sip, the mint flavor leaving a fresh taste in his mouth. Ted scowled. He hated mint. "That's probably why those Slytherins were acting strange. They must have slipped that sugar packet to Madame Puddifoot and left in a hurry." He glanced at the building door. "Which is stupid. I don't know why they couldn't threaten you in person."

Collin smiled, his blue eyes shining with a real kindness very few people could bring out of him. He clasped the necklace, letting his hands rest against the nape of her neck as he did so. "We'll just say it's one of a kind," he said, laughing lightly at his wife's question. He closed the necklace, clasping it with a brush of a kiss. He was aware people were staring, but he didn't mind. Before he had time to respond at all regarding his career, his wife was swept up by none other than Don Draper. Collin clenched his fists as Precious excused herself, eyeing the man skeptically. Collin himself had no qualms against helping the man raise his daughter, though he did think it was rather more his responsibility, but Don himself made Collin uneasy. Especially to see him and Precious chit-chat out of earshot.

Nevertheless, he had to respect Don if only for Precious and Dolores' sake. It didn't help any that Theodore was beginning to look to him as a role model as well. He gave a half-hearted friendly wave back as Don faced him from across the room. If there was anything Collin was good at, it was appearances. Regardless, his teeth clenched around the dainty china containing his tea when he saw Don giving his wife the once-over. The cup cracked, a chip falling onto his saucer. He placed it on the side, not wanting to embarrass himself by attempting a simple mending charm that was sure to go wrong.

Naturally, he liked when people admired after his wife--she was someone to be admired--but Draper seemed much too... possessive. He could manage the wandering eyes of other men who could be put in their place by a mere cracking of his knuckles, but Draper seemed relatively unfazed by his physical prowess. It was something unsettling to say the least. As Don and Precious headed back over, Collin held his hands together in a polite manner but one that also seemed to say I wrestle with dragons, I can take your scrawny ass down.

He assumed Draper was one who would be more likely to attempt a battle of wits, though, and Collin despised those sort of people. Anyone that rivaled or outmatched him in anything he despised. Especially if they held it against him. Draper's smugness was more than enough to make him want to take matters into his own hands. Instead, he smiled and nodded as Draper exited, unnervingly watching the thrill it gave the children nearby.

"The dragons are ruthless as always," Collin said nonchalantly continuing their conversation. "Although it seems you have a few serpents of your own to deal with," he said, wordlessly pushing the broken teacup over to his wife. She was one of the only ones that knew of his Achilles heel for wand waving, but their shared abilities helped them both look stronger anyway.

FIRE PURE RISE

"What do you have against them?" asked Dolores as she rolled her eyes. "You're holding a grudge when they didn't specifically target you." Dolly sipped her tea. "Who do you think it is, though?" Her large, gray eyes flickered from wall-to-wall in the pub. If it wasn't Ted, Ariella, or Dolly, that left the rest of the student body of Hogwarts.

"Maybe you should go to your mom about it." Dolly shrugged. "She'll probably know what to do." Then, it clicked in her mind. "Or mine, since she does deal with potions and stuff." Lo set down her cup. "Or maybe do nothing at all. It was probably just a dumb prank."

"Well, I hope you continue to stay on top of your game. I don't ever want to receive news that my husband was consumed by an Ukrainian Ironbelly." sighed Precious, her blue eyes on his. "Ever." The thought of losing someone she loved so dearly forced the muscles in her belly to clench with uneasiness.

"Who, Draper?" She glanced down at the broken teacup. Her eyebrows arched and her lips pursed. "Collin," Precious' shoulders slumped. If there was anything she loved doing, it was playing the submissive with Collin to gain what she wanted. "Draper is an arrogant fool. He walks around as if he owns the place, but he can't even raise his own daughter by himself." Her eyes flickered to Dolores as she casually enjoyed a cup of tea with her friends. "Think nothing of him. I only speak to him about Dolores and nothing else."

The couple sat in silence for several seconds, simply enjoying each other's presence. What she wanted more than anything at the moment was to kiss him and run her hands through his hair. Collin and Precious liked to take advantage of their marital status, but because of his work and the beginning of the school year, they hadn't had a private moment since the start of summer. "Have you seen the prophet?" She asked quietly. Her finger pushed the paper towards him with Margo, Mitchell's, and Katriane's faces dancing on the front page. "There's an article about me being promoted to deputy headmistress," Precious lowered her voice to a whisper. "But the elementium are missing. What do you think of that?"

A fire that burns that bright is not meant to last.

Ariella's eyebrows gathered, her face wrinkled with frustration. "Yeah, Dolly. You're right. Just a joke. They probably set the timer for the time that Madam Puddifoot would bring over this mess." With a flick of her wand, Ariella sent the tea, still full, back to where Madam Puddifoot was standing; she smiled exaggeratedly before glaring fiercely at the older woman.

Turning back to her friends, Ariella rolled her eyes. "I'm bored. Isn't there a life we can ruin around this town? Someone we can blindfold and lead into the Shrieking Shack?"

"That Bella girl rubs me the wrong way," He licked his lips, chapped from constant biting. "You know her? She's in Slytherin. Bell Thornton, I think." It was a stab in the dark, but he never cared enough to know her full name. "She ... gives us a bad name. Worse than Dolly before she started being mean." He casted a side-glance at her, smirking as he stirred his tea

"I don't know about lead. I was thinking of dragging her by her ankles -" He paused to sip from his cup. " - or her hair. Whichever makes it easier." Theodore glanced at his parents, hoping they weren't listening to their conversation. Not that they would stop them, but he didn't want them to invite themselves to their little play date. "Maybe we can look for some Hufflepuffs to bag on." Teddy sighed, suddenly wishing that Max was there. He hated being surrounded by girls.

Collin took her hands in his again, their wedding rings clinking lightly together, as Precious assured him their relationship was nothing but professional. Collin had never doubted this, and he trusted Precious wholeheartedly. It was the arrogance Draper carried himself with that put his emotions at unrest. Did Draper really think his ulterior intentions were hidden? Even if he was just playing around, Collin did not appreciate his intrusion into their family. He didn't mind Dolores so much as he did the fact that she did not consider him to be any sort of guardian, meanwhile, calling his wife "Mother." When he was clearly not regarded as her father, that didn't bode well for appearance's sake.

His blue eyes flicked up to hers, meeting each other's gaze in silence for a few moments. He thoroughly missed her when he was away and she was at the school. Settling down had been hard enough for him, but not being able to see the woman he loved for the majority of the year was agonizingly difficult. Before her, he'd only dated people for a few months at most, and here they were, nearly fifteen years strong. That was something the onlookers could really be jealous of.

"No, I hadn't," Collin said, releasing her hands to unfold the paper. He'd been in more of a rush to make sure he'd gotten into first class on the way out than he had to read the paper. Never anything interesting anyway, unless the Wickhams were featured. He raised his eyebrows and smiled at the mention of Precious' promotion to deputy headmistress, but flipped the paper back to the front page at the mention of the missing elementium. "Was it...?" he asked vaguely, more asking for the answer than bringing any of his own theories to the table. He and Precious had been involved in the Squires of Walpurgis during their time in Hogwarts, and he knew the Hindert side of the family was more tied to it than his own, but things seemed to have settled down as far as he was aware. Although, aware was not the choicest word to describe Collin.

"Congratulations," he said, smiling politely and leaning across the small table to kiss her cheek. It was best to keep people guessing as to what they were talking about, even if they wanted to eavesdrop on the idle parts of their conversation. Collin knew from experience that bigger names drew more prying ears, and there wasn't a bigger name than Wickham.

"Thank you." beamed Precious. She found satisfaction in his pleasure. Collin's job was impressive to the outsider, and nothing rang louder ambition than his wife having a nearly equally prestigious career. Pride was what Precious felt when she had read the story in The Prophet. It had described her as a diligent woman, who wanted nothing better to support her son and her adoptive daughter. It gave the Wickhams a positive reputation.

"Do you remember Mitchell Kalvor?" She asked. Precious narrowed her eyes as she scanned her husband's face for any emotion. She could not recall if Mitchell and Collin had ever been friends, but the both of them were involved with Squire activities along with her. "I dated him before you swept me off my feet." Precious sighed. She internally debated on telling Collin about his fate.

I killed him in cold blood. She thought as she shifted uncomfortably in her seat. More than anything, she wanted to tell him about the Sisterhood meeting, and describe how Mitchell Kalvor's demise was humiliating and quick. She wanted to tell him of the Sisters' deep influence over Hogwarts, her assignment on Dave. But Precious knew that if she ever peeped about it, Jordanna would force her to dispose of Collin as she did with Mitchell.

Precious cleared her throat, removing any signs of guilt on her face. "Such a shame." She cocked her head slightly. "He was such a nice man. I wonder if he had a family." Precious swallowed the lump in her throat. "Could you imagine Teddy growing up without a father? Or a mother. I just.." She glanced at her beautiful creation, seated at the table with a disinterested look in her face. He was her progeny. "I can't imagine it."

Collin's eyes rested on the Prophet again, attempting to match the face and name up with his own timeline. "We were acquainted," he said, the face flitting through his memories at the occasional party and his time in the Squires. They had chatted infrequently, but he never counted him as a friend. Then again, Collin didn't really have friends while at Hogwarts. Other people were friends with him, but he would seldom return the favor. Mitchell wasn't quite at that level. Nevertheless, if he'd meant something to Precious, he could certainly feign some empathy to comfort her. He'd had plenty of practice doing that with people that mattered less in Hogwarts.

Collin raised an eyebrow in concern as Precious shifted uneasily in her seat. He had an inkling his wife wasn't telling him everything she knew about the day's headline, but he wouldn't pry. He'd realized since his time in the Squires that sometimes information was kept hidden for a reason, usually for his own well-being. What he should know would be told to him without asking, although, it didn't hurt to offer to console her. Collin looked at her, eyebrows raised in concern while his mouth dipped into a falsely understanding frown. Where was this coming from? He struggled to connect the disappearance of three elementium to the happiness of his own family. Although, he assumed it probably had something to do with the Sisterhood.

Keeping one hand on hers, he slipped the other under the table, resting it just above her knee. He squeezed it gently, their quiet display of affection veiled beneath the lacy tablecloth. "You stay on top of your game, too," he said, his eyes revealing more than he could permit himself to say aloud. Sometimes he felt Precious' job could be more draining than his own, which was saying something. He shifted his gaze to his son, indifferently stirring his tea. He couldn't help but notice his little circle was made up entirely of young Slytherin girls. He smirked approvingly. Theodore was certainly taking after him, socially. Even more fortunately, he seemed to have inherited his mother's brains.

If something were to happen to Collin or Precious? Collin figured Theodore'd still be fairly well off. He'd inherit the estate, the family's money, and surely someone could be coerced into raising him. As much as he detested the thought, Draper did owe them quite the favor... Collin dismissed the idea, turning back to his wife. More importantly, what would he do if something were to happen to her? He'd imagine his life would spiral back down into the disinterested, detached Lothario he'd lived as in school, only infinitely less satisfying. "We're untouchable," he concluded. It was common knowledge. They instilled a sense of respect into everyone, even without the knowledge of their darker deeds. You didn't get on the bad side of the Wickhams if you wanted to be them.

Fourteen years ago, she remembered the chilly March evening. She clutched the pregnancy test in her hands - it couldn't be true, she and Collin had only been married a month. They were beginning their new jobs and a child was far from their minds. She was afraid of what Collin would say. Immediately, she felt protective of the small life inside of her, despite all those years of swearing to herself that she would never reproduce.

She flinched at his touch. If she could go back to their wedding day, she would change nothing. The way they looked at each other, the way one shifted and the other followed like a harmonious duo. She had married the right man. Even though Annik approved, she didn't need her mother's positive words to agree to marry the man.

"Perhaps." nodded Precious. "Shall we take a walk? I feel that it is too crowded in here." Precious stood from her seat. Arm-in-arm, the Wickhams exited Madame Puddifoot's.
