Elisamarie sat staring at the tree, eyes narrowed trying to sketch the tree that sat across from her. There was one branch that she just couldn't get right. Sighing she took off one of her gloves and looked around. Few students were outside in the nippy air. Ree just couldn't take the warmth of the Hufflepuff common room, not after what she had just witnessed in the first task. Dragons. They had pitted the poor tributes up against dragons. The Hufflepuff hadn't realized how much she cared about the French tributes until today. It hadn't dawned on her how much time she had been spending with Antoine, Lunette, and Tibault until the thought occured to her that Lunette or Antoine may not make it back alive. She was still jittery, still worried. The pent up energy that she had, had no means of escaping her body. Instead here she sat staring frusterated at a tree in the dead of winter. Her body began shivering, and she sighed, smiling slightly as the little tuff of air was visible. |

Merida's arm was on fire. She'd been given a salve for the pain but was loathe to remove the bandaging. In retrospect, it had been stupid to attempt grabbing one of the teeth without ensuring that the dragons were out of the picture. There'd just been so little time. The tribute felt triumphant, still. They'd gone up against dragons, the outcome could have been a fuck of a lot worse. She was glad that Antoine was alright. One down, two to go. Merida did not want to think about what the other two tasks would be like, if the first one had them dealing with dragons. Surely they should get progressively more difficult? The Durmstrang girl welcomed the cold. It was a nice change from where she had been. Felt normal, almost. Her hair was still tied back, as it had been. At the moment, she was looking for anything that would provide distraction. Thinking about what was to come would drive her mad. Of course, she couldn't do what she really wanted. There weren't very many options, out here, in way of distraction. Just a girl staring daggers at a tree. "Hello," Greeted she, "Don't mind if I join you?" Then, in some attempt at finding common ground, she produced a small blue flame in the palm of one hand, "I bring warmth." |

Ree smiled at the girl, "Of course I don't mind. You'll be better company than that tree." She nodded towards the tree that had made her redicuoulously angery. "I'm Elisamarie." Ree held out her hand for the girl to shake. She knew this girl, it was the one that Antoine had danced with on numerous occasions, the one that she had caught him looking at when he thought no one else was looking. The thing about Antoine was, he was used to being the friend that nobody really paid close attention too. His jokes were funny, and caused everyone to laugh, but it was his actions that were ignored, and it was evident to Ree that he hadn't thought about her addition into the group when trying to keep the relationship he was having with this girl a secret. Not that she would tell, it wasn't her secret too tell, and Antoine already didn't like Ree. "You're the Durmstrang female tribute, huh?" Ree looked at the bandaged arm. The dragons had bit the poor girl, but if this was the worst that happened to her at the tournament then she should be considered lucky. |

"Don't hold me to it." The female tribute responded, putting her wand away and swapping the flame so she might accept the girl's hand. "Merida." Her handshake was quite firm, although it was her right arm that had been injured. Merida sat and allowed the flame to pass between her two hands, warming the fingers of each. It was with genuine curiosity that she regarded Elisamarie's drawing. "Elisamarie," She tested the name out, "It's quite unique, isn't it? How do you shorten it?" Before she had a chance to bring up something more appealing than her status as female Durmstrang tribute, she was asked the obvious. "Oh, no, common misconception." Reassured she, hoping that it was obvious she was joking, "It's the hair." She indicate the drawing, "That's quite nice, you know. I've never had much of a hand for drawing." |

Ree smiled as Merida said that it was a misconception that she was the tribute, blaming it on the hair. "Oh.. silly me." Ree's grin, made it obvious that she knew that Merida was in fact the tribute. "Some people call me Elise, some Ree, just whichever you prefer." Ree shrugged, it didn't really matter what people called her. Looking down at the drawing Ree blushed under Merida's compliment. "Thank you, it's got me tricked at that branch though. No matter how I shade, shape and sketch, that branch looks off." Ree made a face. "Enough of silly art talk." She bit her lip trying to think of a clever way to bring Antoine up without bringing Antoine up. "Do you hang out with any of the other tributes...? Like from the other schools?" Elisamarie bit her lip. That could be a common question right? Only other tributes would understand what these students were going through. It wasn't as if Ree had just fought a dragon. Ree debated on throwing out bate by asking specifically about Antoine, she knew that several of the Hogwarts girls were fawning over him. Only he didn't realize it, or if he did, he didn't act on it. Her hand went to play with a blonde curl. "I mean, it would be a great time to make friends, and all, if you weren't constantly fighting each other." Ree glanced at Merida, she was treading into dangerous waters, and she sure as heck didn't want Merida to think that Antoine had been talking about their relationship, it was the exact opposite, and for that reason, Ree needed the confirmation from Merida. |

Ree. That sounded nice. Although Merida kept it to herself. "I'm sure you're being too hard on yourself. You'll figure it out." The Durmstrang tribute blinked. It suddenly felt like she was being interviewed and her practiced responses started coming to mind. Scrolling through her thoughts, putting her on edge. The flame stilled in one hand, wavering, although there was no breeze to speak of. Of course her thoughts went to Antoine, and, for a small moment, she might have smiled, who was the only tribute she'd have any time to get to know. The Hogwarts tributes seemed far too self absorbed and destructive... And she had never had an opportunity to approach Lunette. Elisamarie reiterated and Merida shrugged. "There isn't as much time for meeting people, as I would like." That seemed a safe enough response, although she no longer felt as though she could be as friendly with the small little blonde girl at her side. "It's difficult to make friends," This she had no trouble admitting, "Because you are suddenly defined by one thing." Her gaze trained on the flame. Antoine had seemed to understand this, on some level. She wasn't sure about anyone else. Merida smiled over at the girl, attempting reassurance, "It can drive you a bit mad." |

Ree nodded. "I bet, I wouldn't want to be a tribute." Ree watched the flame flicker out and die. "And I bet it effects dating people too, huh?" Ree wasn't looking at Merida, but out towards the lake, like there was something out there that she couldn't quite see. "Shame though, because there really are some cutie put-tooties around. " Ree smiled a small smile over at Merida. Of course Ree wasn't looking, but the statement was a broad one, and it could be directed towards the tributes, or it could just mean between the three schools there were cute boys. Ree turned back towards the tree. Merida wasn't nearly as open as she had hoped, and she didn't feel like trying to press her buttons to see if she would explode the way that Ree had seen Antoine do when he got mad. It just seemed like to much effort, for not enough of an award. "I mean, I have a boyfriend, but if it weren't for the tournament I wouldn't." Ree looked over at Merida. It was the first time that she had openly said that Tibault was in fact her boyfriend, and not just some boy that she hung out with, and kissed. "So I guess that's a plus of this tournament, although I doubt that you would see it that way." How many times had Antoine pointed out the fact that he didn't give a crap about Tibault's love life, that they didn't come to England for love? |

Merida stared at Ree, she was so young. It would have been quite unfair had she been chosen to participate. What could someone in their second year of schooling do against dragons? Of course, she felt the same way about the other four tributes. Fifteen at most? Alexander and she were the only ones of suitable age. She was thrown for a loop when dating was brought up. It felt like ages since she'd spoken with a girl, it seemed almost as though she had forgotten how they operated. Or how to operate around them. Boys were easy, easy to have fun with. Had she not met Antoine she would have undoubtedly been unconcerned about dating. It was likely she wouldn't have formed an attachment with anyone, sticking to flirting and simplicity. Maybe something more physical, given the opportunity. Honestly, she hadn't even been paying attention to other guys. Although she didn't doubt the authenticity behind Elisamarie's statement. "I have a boyfriend, so I've been trying not to notice." Admitted she, grin turning a bit cheeky. "It's nice to hear that the tournament has not been so twisted that nothing good can come of it," Merida responded, genuinely happy for the girl's good fortune, "How did you get together?" It felt more natural to be the one asking questions. |

Ree's blush turned a deep pink. "Well, I ran into him. Literally, knocked the books out of my hands and everything. And then he started speaking in French...I don't even know what happened after that." Biting her lip Ree looked over at Merida, it was now or never. "Is your boyfriend..." Ree paused looked around to make sure no one was listening and then dramatically dropped her voice down low. "Antoine?" She was still blushing and she wiggled her way to sitting up straight. Her voice went back to normal and she nodded towards some Ravenclaw girls whose heads had snapped their way. Covering up what she had just asked Ree, said just loudly enough that they could hear, "I mean he is sooo dreamy, and those eyes, so super hot. Steamy even." Satisfied the girls were gone Ree went back to being serious. "I don't think he's steamy, not at all. Actually, kind of the opposite of steamy, cold. Until he gets mad, and then it's all hotheadedness. Oh, crap I'm rambling. Sorry." The young girl looked down sheepishly. |

Merida started to laugh, at the image conjured within her mind. "Must have been fun." The tribute very nearly stood up and left. That would have been the epitome of indiscretion, especially with the two girls walking by. Her posture stiffened, deliberately, instead. She could do nothing but feel her stomach tie into trepidatious knots as Ree prattled on about her boyfriend's steamy eyes. It wasn't surprising, that someone had figured them out. Merida was suddenly afraid of the sheer number of people who might know. For a moment her thoughts turned quite dangerous indeed, before reason settled in. Lashing out now would help nothing. When she spoke her tone was just the right amount of offended, "My boyfriend is back home," It was lucky, perhaps, that she practically lied for a living. She had already managed to devise a reason behind why he had not been present at any of the dances, or the parade. "I can't imagine why you would assume anything was going on between me and the French tribute." |

"I forgot to mention that my boyfriend is that very French tribute's best friend. Which means, I hang out with him, even when he's all moody." Ree's hands were now moving when she talked, she was about to begin ticking off reasons she thought they were together when she realized that Merida had said they weren't together. "Oh, no... No, that can't be... that means... oh goodness..." Ree's face paled and she looked at Merida. "You can't tell anyone about this. Promise. Promise you won't tell." She was staring at Merida with blue eyes. One could actually see the wheels turning in Ree's head. "Unless you're lying to cover it up.. which makes since... He would... but if not then... you're telling the truth and I just screwed up. I mean, he already hates me so that won't be anything new... but..." Ree narrowed her eyes and looked at Merida, like it was Merida's fault that Ree had 'misread' the scenerios. "I can tell you why I thought you were together, but you'll probably just laugh." Ree looked down at her hands, deflated that she hadn't been correct with her theory. |

Merida realized, with a slight pang, that Ree had probably spent more time with Antoine than she had. Fuck, the world was so messed up. She didn't even know who Antoine considered his best friend. Nor was she sure what Ree was referring to when she mentioned moodiness. Oh, she wanted to defend him. Explain to the girl what was what. It was out of the question. There wasn't anyone she could talk to about him. Not even when the tournament was finished. "That's alright," The tribute relaxed, slightly, as her lie was accepted. She even... felt a bit bad. The thought that Elisamarie was asking her to keep quiet was such a turnaround she almost felt like she might laugh. What was going on, even? It felt as though everything wanted to spiral directly out of her control. Merida had started spinning, when she met Antoine, and it seemed as though it would only get worse with time. Perhaps things would quiet, when the tournament was over. Or perhaps something would go terribly wrong and she would never be in control again. "I could use a good laugh. I'll keep your secret, if you tell me." Was Ree pouting? How utterly shameless. |

Elisamarie looked over at Merida, "That's what they all say... Okay, here goes the Meritoine train. Yes, I even created a pet name. It's cute." Ree's smile was real, "This you're missing out on, the pet name Meritoine, like baritone but you know your names." Ree cracked her fingers like she was about to get down to some serious business.Clearing her throat she went ahead and proceeded with the reasons she believed the two tributes were together. "Reason number one: He doesn't talk crap on you." Ree blinked twice, and then contined, "Reason two he only danced with you at Feast of the Champions, and vice versa, and he stepped infront of you when Teddy went off the deep end. Reason three, you disapeared with him from the Yule Ball. Reason four he stares at you like you hang the moon, but only when he thinks people aren't watching, leading me to believe in my heart, that if you were to have a relationship it would be secretive, because talk about a terrible idea. So when you add all these things up you get Meritoine." |

Meritoine. What a mouthful. Merida smiled, regardless. Ree was friendly enough, the tribute just wasn't sure to what extent she could be trusted. Being open, as Antoine had been with her, was such a foreign concept. She could not consider it. "Terrible indeed." That felt a bit nostalgic. "Carmen and Theodore are from the same school, at least." To say she had been shocked by the list Elisamarie presented her with was an understatement. One had to wonder if the girl did much other than watch the pair. "That's quite an intensive list," Merida pointed out, her smile turned more teasing. The Durmstrang tribute was trying not to dwell too much on points one and four. Although it was difficult. She was well aware of the way he looked at her. Her own expression was far more guarded, in regards to him, it came with practice. "I had wanted to ask the other tributes to dance, at the Feast, but everything got a bit out of hand." As for the Yule ball, she didn't feel an explanation was necessary. She had not left with Antoine, after all. It was better to feign ignorance. |

Ree smiled, "I sound like a crazy stalker from the Belrose Fanclub." She shuddered. "Nope, I just people watch, and Antoine is a people, wait person is the right word. Anyways he's a person that I hang out with. As much as he's a pain, I think he really means well." Ree looked over at Merida, "And I can't just ask him about his relationship status, because he gets all cold and shuts down, and I just got him to open up when I'm around, and its been like a month and a half, and I just don't have that time to wait for him to realize that I won't go around spilling all of his secrets, which I don't know any, because he's so cold. We've made a loop." Elisamarie shrugged, this is why she preferred Tibault over Antoine. "So what's your boyfriend like? Tall, dark and handsome?" Ree wriggled her eyebrows at the cliche. |

Merida laughed, she wouldn't have put it so bluntly. It was hard to sympathize with Ree. She seemed a bit too busy, a little too concerned with the affairs of others; as though she was entitled to knowledge about them. Frankly, Merida could understand why Antoine would treat her coldly. The Durmstrang tribute was having a difficult time keeping up, and they'd hardly been talking. "I don't think he's as bad as you claim. I've only spoken with him a few times..." She turned a bit thoughtful, "Not everyone is so open." Her smile molded into a small smirk. At least she could be a bit honest, with such a question. "He's quite handsome, and cheeky. He took me off guard; treated me seriously." More seriously than he should have, probably. Merida did not notice the change in her tone, the obvious affection with which she regarded him. "I don't get to see him as often as I'd like. We're both quite busy." "And yours, what makes him so special?" |

Elisamarie looked at Merida, questioningly, "He's not bad." Her voice had a hard edge to it willing Merida to disagree. Loyalty it ran in her blood, and maybe she had skewed the lines for Merida, but Ree would never say Antione was a bad person, because she didn't believe he was. She listened as Merida talked about the boy from back home. Her tone softened and it was obvious that this mystery guy meant the world to her. "I bet he misses you a lot too." Looking down at her drawing, and then back up to Merida Ree thought about the question. Tibault had made her feel special, like the only girl around, and he was the first person to really notice her. Not that being just a face in the crowd was a bad thing, but still. Ree's voice turned quiet, like what she was fearful of what Merida would say about her response. "He saw me. Actually saw me, and didn't just brush me off, or put me down. He's humorous, and witty. " Ree didn't say anything about his looks, it went without saying that she thought he was handsome. |

Merida raised an eyebrow, slightly amused by the sudden shift in the girl's demeanour, it seemed Ree had misunderstood what she had meant by bad. Still, she did not feel the need to rectify the situation. The only things that came to mind were provocative, in nature and their conversation was treading on dangerous enough grounds. The Durmstrang tribute pressed her lips together, shrugged, like it wasn't a big deal if he missed her or not. He saw me. Actually saw me. That felt like a loaded statement. Merida wasn't sure what was meant by it. Whatever actually seeing someone entailed, it seemed only like a set up for future disappointment. How could anyone live up to such a standard? Still, she knew better than to speak such sentiments aloud. "It was nice meeting you, Ree. Thanks for the chat." Her smile was a genuine one. It had been nice to pretend like she was just another person, for even a brief period of time. The celebration over the first task was, unfortunately, something she could not avoid forever. Merida stood, not waiting for a response, and headed back the way she had come from. |
