Lennon - District 7 "Shh!" I muffled to the panda bear laying on it's stomach next to me. He barely ran the whole time he was with me, I don't know why he was so tired. He was just dead weight but I couldn't hurt the poor guy. For all I know, all the animals or mutts released into the games are killed after. What if he is a mutt though.. what if he attacked me. I'm sure I'd be able to kill him then, but for now he's my company I suppose. I also can't help but to think that he may have some part in the games. It's stupid when I think about it, but this has never happened before from what I remember. Within minutes he's asleep and I lay on my stomach behind a bush, waiting. I heard footsteps behind me, so I ran into a large rectangular section of the maze. It was like a small plain, with some bushes, and a few trees. I wasn't sure how many people there were but I heard two cannon's go off in the morning. My bet is that the group from 1, 2, and whoever else they picked up are out and about doing their thing. Every year it's the same thing, the strongest band together and usually make it to the end. My thoughts were interrupted when I see Wren, the male from District 3. Was he 16 or 17, I couldn't remember, but he knew something was wrong. I heard more footsteps, but who's? The footsteps belonged to someone chasing him, but he was with the strong people alliance. The thought hit me that he must of betrayed them to be running by himself away from someone or a group of someones. I knew he was being chased so I took a risk and stood up as he was passing me. "Over here, quick!" I whispered roughly. Panda, or at least that's what I plan on calling him, growled at the newcomer. I looked down, "Quiet Panda! They are chasing after him." I tried to make the bear understand. It must of worked because he laid back down to rest again. I dropped to the ground and pulled Wren down with me. "You betray 'em?" I asked. "Yes, Cormac and Veronica from Two. You can thank me later." He replied back to me. Well at least I'm hiding the person who took a big risk. Just like I did when I gave up my location. Two risk takers behind a bush and three of the strongest people in this years game about to collide, or maybe they won't see us and continue on a wild goose chase. I doubted the second scenario though. I rolled my back over under my stomach and unzipped it as quietly as possible. Two or three more corners and they'll be here, so I had to hurry. I quickly lugged my ax out of my bag and zipped it back up. I looked over at Wren's measly switchblade. Please. I reached down the bag again and hand him two knives that he could throw or keep. "Plan A, we get up, surprise attack them, take out as many as possible and then book it. Or Plan B, wait until they see us, then try to attack, and hopefully survive long enough to run." I questioned. "Are we gonna take a risk or rely on hope?" "Were takin' that risk brother." He informed. I barely knew him, but even before training I just knew he was smart and that he was my first person I'd want to work with. I had told him before the whole thing that I wanted to work with him, and he never said no, he just smiled. We just had a connection I think. Footsteps, getting closer. Panda woke up and got on all four's. "You ready buddy?" I requested. He looked up to me and a look in his eyes made me want to think that he could understand me but that would be impossible. The footsteps stopped, I looked up to see Lavender and Cinnabar from 1. Where was the other one? The one from Four? "Get the one of the left." I howled to Wren, the one on the left was Lavender, so that left me Cinnabar. He looked at me and threw a knife that I barely dodged and felt blood flow down the side of my head. He got my ear I think, something that's replaceable. He took out another knife but before he did, we both turned to hear a thunderous roar. I see the third one behind me ready to attack with a long sword, but a large panda bear attacks him from behind. BOOM! He looks just like my Panda, but before I look for him, I quickly throw my ax at Cinnabar and I heard the bones cracking and crunching as it lodged into his chest. BOOM! "What the hell?" I hear Lavender whisper as she is taken back by what just happened. She turns from the large bear, to the now dead Cinnabar, back to the way she came and ran. Funny how the tables turn oh so easily. I turn back to the large bear and slowly watch him shrink down to the small Panda that I thought was just an animal, but he's a mutt. I'm sure he's not the first or the last of the mutts to come in the arena, but he helped me. If it wasn't for him I'd be dead, most likely along with Wren. Panda runs over to me and jumps up on me and I am forced to catch him or he'll fall to the ground. Why doesn't he attack me? Maybe for some reason this is the way he was made... to not attack the person who found him? Would he of attacked Wren if I didn't tell him not to? What does it all mean? I know it means I have a bad-ass bear who can kill people, and I will not regret that. I look over to Wren, wide eyed and mouth dropping to the ground. I just shrugged and went to retrieve my ax. I decided to check the bodies quickly as well, they might have something useful. Sword, daggers and knives. I quickly check the pocket of Cinnabar and find a small glass piece. I take it out and look at it, nothing special, just some glass. I don't think it was a token because I feel like that would be tied around his neck or something. I look over my shoulder at Wren and toss him the object. "I reckon you know what that is seeing as to how you were with them." I tested. "Grab the other one out of Fitch's pocket, quick before the craft arrives!" He almost screamed. I ran over to the other body and fished out an identical piece from his pocket as well. "Okay I got it, now what the hell does it do?" I asked. "It's.. I don't know how to explain it. Have you walked around in this.. area yet?" He contemplated. "No... why?" I returned. "Go over there, quick!" He demanded as he pointed to the adjacent shorter side of the area, and I did as told. "Now look through the glass piece." He again demanded. I did so and I saw a hot pink on the ground. A floating line of the pink color. "What the hell?" "It's sort of a tracking device, but for yourself." He answered. "It tracks everywhere I've gone so far." I guessed. "Correct." He confirmed. Before we got all our things to leave a bird flew down and landed right in between myself and Wren. The bird, darker blue on the top of his head fading down his back to a lighter sky blue. The bird was no bigger than Panda, probably smaller, but I realized that that was Wren's company. I wasn't sure how it works and for who it works for, but I was willing to bet if everyone stayed alive to a certain point that they would find their own. Can his change like mine? The bird hooted and whistled and turned it's head towards me and stared at me with it's black beady eyes. "Blue bird, no!" He yelled, and it immediately turned back to him and hopped up onto his left shoulder. "Looks like I'm not the only one with a pet." I poked. Fluer - District 11 I looked down to the wold cub, he was growling at the two boys. The boys from 3 and 7. Wren and Lennon. Wren had a bird and Lennon had a panda bear. "Not yet, we'll keep our distance for now Red." I plotted. I reached into my pocket and pulled out the glass piece that Lennon had just discovered and held it to my right eye. I followed the orange line back the way I came. I clenched the held the poison tipped tooth I had pulled from the mouth of some kind of dog-mutt that had attempted to attack me. Stupid animal. I passed a couple corners and the hedge pieces had slowly been replaced by stone. I had assumed that the cement walling signified the center of the maze, or maybe just a checkpoint towards it. Left, right, right, straight, left, left, and I was at my camp. I climbed the tree in the circular area. There was only one way in but I had a feeling people would think it was a too obvious place for camp so I used it. If someone tried to attack me, it'd be a mistake. Once I got higher up the tree, I reached my hand into the opening where I hid all my small things that could fit in there. Something bit my hand and retracted my hand quickly, almost falling out of the tree. I regained my balance and examined my hand, all that was there was a small puncture and a drop of blood. "Stupid bug." I muttered to myself, and reached my hand in again, and quickly brought my hand out once I had felt what I was looking for. A blanked I had stuffed in there when I first climbed the tree the first day... or night. I shook off the blanket of all the dirt or possibly bugs that might of been inside the tree and covered myself with it. I laid down in between two large branches sticking out of the tree as if it were made for me. I looked up to the sky and waited. What time was it? It's been night the entire time, and there's no way of telling what day it is, if it was day, or when the anthem will be played. It had been at least five, six, maybe seven days, and the anthem timing had seemed completely different each time. I closed my eyes and slowly drifted off to sleep. I awoke later when the anthem started. Cinnabar from 1, Veronica and Cormac from 2, and Fitch from 4. Wow! I saw the bodies of Cinnabar and Fitch, but I did not expect Veronica and Cormac as well. When I saw Lavender run off, I figured the Initial Alliance had just split up. I didn't expect it to be a bad split up, but they are brutal. The sky where the anthem had played and showed the faces of the fallen tributes today when back to the dark night sky. I itched my hand for a few moments before going back to sleep.
