*At the trading post one of the buffalo hunters was down. Beaten down with suprising ease by a young chinese girl half his size. Baines had never seen anything like. Oh he heard the tales of how certain members of the oriental race had mastered some odd form of fighting skill hithero unknown to the western world, but until this moment he had never seen it put into practice. Indeed....he had long considered it a myth. One of those tall tales the west was rapidly know for. But then the proof ina tiny a female body presented itself before his eyes. And as Ben Franklin long ago stated......"seeing was believing". Baines just had to get this girl into the eccentrics. the other Buffalo hunter was being watched by Sam and Jacob. He was going to be no problem. So Baines placed his gun on the table in a gesture to display he meant no harm.....and slowly appoarched the girl.* Missy...that was some kind of rare fighting you just showed. I gotta say,....I'm impressed. And as my associated can tell you....only the best impress me. *He stood up....at 6 feet tgwo inches tall...Baines towered over the girl. But that did not make him feel secure. He had the feeling she could handle him with ease if she wanted. But then again....he was not an enemy. Just a potential employer that did not make judgements about race of cred like those railroad spikers....or the dock bosses and workers in San Francisco.* Name is Zach Baines....Scattergun Baines....because of that there sawed off rifle I use there on the table. Can we talk?? Sam smiled warmly “I’m glad you made it, Jacob. Your insights have been missed.” She said softly as she looked over the other hunter reaching for his head. She knew he wasn’t going to be much trouble with the whammy of a drink he’d knocked back. Serves him right for treating her like he did. Sam watched Zach work his magic and looked over the girl a moment wand gave her a little wave and a wink before beaming at her. More girls in the crew was always a good thing in her book. Mayako barely understood a word the man had said. Even though she had been in this land of white devils for a couple of years, mostly running from those who wanted her dead for killing those who tried to enslave her, she had not picked up the language very well. Just a few words here and there. Only thing she did understand was that he had his hands up and his gun was away from his person. It was a universal gesture of good will because he was unarmed and his hands were where she could see them. Other things she noticed was he was tall and towered over her tiny frame which only stood five foot five inches tall. Most of her people were anywhere between four feet to somewhere in the five foot range depending on gender, genetics and family background. Though genetics wouldn't be discovered for at least a century to come. Baines was no threat to her even armed, she could have taken him down if she had need to. Just like she had killed that hunter without problem. It was why bounty hunters were warned about taking her on because she was lightning quick and could disable a man before he could fire off a decent shot. The woman at the bar had winked and waved at her. She wasn't sure what those gestures meant still in this foreign land of white devils. Finally her attention returned to Baines and she tried to decipher what he had said to her. "Anata wo rikai deki masen," she said in her native tongue. Most of what she understood was, girl and kill her. It was all that had been used around her to pick up and understand. Translated her words said I don't understand you. Meadow was asked to remove all traces that the eccentrics are at the trading post. She has only partly done so. She wants army scouts to find them so she lead the army into a death trap in lowland bogs a few miles distant. Her employer Baines will not approve. He believes the soldiers are doing their duty and deserve respect. Bright Meadow spits on the ground thinking of that. The pigs deserve death. Slow, dirty creaming death for their actions. As for these eccentrics, she does not totally share their cause. She does not care about the money and goods they steal. Their problems are not her's. Whites. blacks, yellows all these people are the same to Bright Meadow. They are invaders. They must be purged from these lands as must the Lakota, Cheyenne and other enemies of the shoshone.. Bitterness still rages in her from witnessing the death of her family at the hands of white army pigs. during the bear river massacre. But not just her family all five hundred members of her particular settlement in what the whites refer to as Idaho died. "Pigs" She says under her breath in the tongue of her people which was handed down to them by the shoshone ancestors the Aztecs. "they will all suffer. Whites for their lies that forced the shoshone west on the trial of tears. The black and yellow people who build rails for their iron horses. Too this end she had offered her services to the white army as a tracker proclaiming her need for money. They took her in, fed her and her a small sum so she could help track the movements dangerous tribes. She did this without questioning orders and despite the racist remarks and disgusting advances from army solider.. For Bright meadow these were small matters. Her plans for revenge were all that mattered. She used the army to track down innocent tribes. She allowed false information to leak out making these tribes the scapegoats for attacks on towns and villages. In truth other Shoeshone settlements were the culprits but the the white thrist for redskin, as the pale devils called O.P. races clouded their brains. They did not care which O,Ps they killed as long as some died. And these innocent tribes? They were not so innocent to Bright Meadow. They made deals with the whites. They obeyed the white master like craven dogs. And some of these tribes were members of traditional eneny tribes of the Shoshone. Let they died horrible and without honor. But the whites suffered also. Bright Meadow steered army troops into traps set by O.P. rebels. She also lead them into desert areas. Too far to from another town to survive. Then slipped out at night leaving them to die while she, knowing the location of the waterholes would come through alive. Then came these bandits, these eccentrics. Their leader, Baines was what the white called a confederate. One the whites that fought to keep the black race enslaved. But he was different. He fought for his land in the south but spoke against using blacks as property. This must have impressed the towering black man Jacob. He joined the confederate. Others flocked to the cause lured by various reasons. Each seemed to the best a give skill. Baines himself is a military genius. Jacob a master with the gun. There is what whites call a safecracker. There is a thief. And a gambler. An Archer who like Meadow is O.P. A mistress with a lasso. A woman with an almost mystical way with horses. And others she has not met but only heard about from the members she has met. They seek to humiliate Grant, the white leader and bring into ruin his presidency. They do this by stealing things needed by the army and what whites call the economy. the flithy paper called money that white worship over nature itself. the eccentrics keep what they need and more. But they also give money to poor white farmers to help them in their struggle with the greedy gold seekers and cattle barons. They also give to the native people's to help them survive in their struggle with the white invaders. Bright Meadow was desired by the eccentrics for her tracking skills. None is better than she. She proved this by helping them evade army pursuit. She will continue to help them for their struggle is similar to hers. For now. But when the time of the great purge when all not native to this great land are to be purged, the alliance will end. All will be slain or castout. Even the eccentrics. *Baines did not know what the girl was saying. He never had to deal with a chinese before. It's not like many of them were under his command back in the Georgia state 12th calvalry. Frankly, he was at a loss.* I'm sorry missy...I don't savy your lingo. *He shrugged and looked to Sam for help. She got around more than he did. He gestured toward her...silently imploring her for aid in this matter.* think you can get through to her, Sam? I'm kinda at a loss here, darlin'. *He wondered where Bright Meadow was....she should have been back by now. He figured her to be careful and smooth enough to avoid problems. He hoped he was not wrong. Last thing he wanted was one of his people captured. Prison breaks were always such a pain to plan out.* Sam glanced over at Jacob, who could more than handle the woozy hunter and slipped over to the girl and smiled again. “I’m sorry Zach, I don’t really know a lot… I mean. I’ve heard things, in passin’? But I don’t know if it’s things I shouldn’t be repeatin’… I don’t want to offend her father or something.” She thought on it a moment and moved over to the girl again, waved a little and offered up a tentative try at what she thought was the word ‘friend’. At least, in context, it seemed as though it could be that, but she’d never really thought to study Eastern culture from a director that specialized in action western movies… Mayako didn't understand anything Baines had said or what Samantha had said to Baines. Also everyone was mistaking her for chinese when she was japanese. However she had no idea that they all thought she was chinese. Only difference between a chinese and a japanese was language and some minor cultural differences. Still it was a moot point because she was having a difficult time communicating with them anyways. The word Samantha spoke was the word for friend but in chinese, the word meant something else in her language. Just a slight context change and it meant something else, and the word meant that they were neutral. That was about what it translated to in her native language. Mayako shrugged it was an attempt to communicate instead of violence. A first for her since every white devil she had ever met only wanted her dead. "Mayako," she said pointing to herself. It was a start. Bright Meadow steps into trading post noting the scene of voiilnce that has taken place. A man is down on the floor perhaps dead perhaps not she cannot tell. But another is captive under the sway of gun barrels. Nearby is a woman of the race whites call them yellows. Chinese, Japanese somenese. Bright meadow has heard many neses she does not know the difference. She is unknown to Bright Meadow. She seems small, weak but if she is among the eccentircs this nese must have some enormous skill. Bright Meadow is about to offer the yellow girl a nod when she sees another man dressed like the one on the floor. She cannot miss the buffalo hide he wears or the scalps on his belt. Indian scalps. She swears under her breath in her native tongue and draws her knife. In English she lets forth her rage and her plans. "Buffalo man!" She looks to Baines. "He is a Buffalo man! They kill our bison. Our food! They try to starve my people out! And this!" She points her knife point at the scalps. "Murderer!" Knife in hand she rushes the man planning to gut him. "I kill you gladly, Buffalo man!" *Baines was wrapped up in trying to reach this oriental girl so when Bright Meadow entered the room...he only gave her a slight nod....acknowledging her return. He would shortly ask how everything went but at the moment he was more interested in figuring out a way to communicate with the young eastern fighter.* Baines. Zach Baines. *Baines said pointing to himself hoping the girl would understand that that was his name. It was going to be tough going here. Like teaching a new born. Both her teaching Baines and his people her oriental lingo....and he Baines teaching this young girl english. But in the midst of trying to learn more of the girl....all hell broke loose. Bright Meadow knife drawn was attacking the sedonc buffalo hunter. unarmed the man cried out for help.* Get that savage away from me! *Baines echoed that remark....minus the racial slur.* Bright Meadow! No! We aren't murderers! *But Baines was too far away to prevent the attack himself. So he called on his people to do it for him. Sam! Stop her! “Okay.” She said brightly, encouraged by the progress. “Okay… um…” she looked around a little and pointed to herself. “Sam.” She said, and then pointed to Zach and said his name. She looked back and considered introducing Jacob as well, but he was probably too far away to be included at the moment. She thought it over again and bit her lip as she wracked her brain for what they could try to say next in her very very limited vocabulary. But her thoughts were jostled by Bright Meadow’s entering and she looked back to Zach. “You should probably… help her. That ain’t my expertise. I’ll keep trying here?” she said softly and looked back to the Chinese girl. “You…” she said, and pointed to her “You Mayako?” she tried, smiling a little. She tried to gesture with her hands a little and offered the word she thought meant “help” or “assistance” and was really just trying her best to make it work, but this was harder than she thought. Mayako saw the native american woman enter out of the corner of her eye but paid her no attention beyond that. Next person to speak was the female white devil in the strange hat. At least the woman bowed properly and introduced herself. She in turn bowed back to Falter as a sign of respect. Next Baines pointed to himself and called himself Baines and then Samantha pointed to herself and called herself Sam. It was during this that the native american woman started screaming and lunging at the hunter intent on killing him. She then heard Baines scream something at Sam but couldn't really make it out. All she saw was the woman lunging, the hunter screaming, and then even more screaming and yelling. Heaving a sigh and not liking the noise level, Mayako moved. One moment she was standing in front of Baines and the next she was on the native american woman hitting her in several places. It was as if she had teleported when in actuality she had did several acrobatic flips to where the native american woman was and then hit several pressure points on the woman to stop her from killing the hunter. Mayako didn't care if the hunter lived or died but she did care that the noise level was giving her a headache. Therefore since all the screaming started because of the native american woman going after the hunter she assumed that stopping said death from happening would stop the noise. Once she had finished hitting the native american woman in several spots to disable her but not harm her, Mayako stepped back as the noise level died down to an acceptable level. "Amarini moooku no noizu," she muttered to herself. Translated it came out as Too much noise. Bright meadow feels the knife drop from her handwhen the yellow woman attacked her. Bright meadow fell to the floor, dropping to her knees and then down barely capable of moving. She looks up at the yellow girl and the others in disbelief. The Buffalo man is a foe to them also but they defend him. It is insane. "You are crazy! All of you!" Even talking is difficult after the yellow girls attack. It is worse than a snake bite. She can hardly move. But Bright Meadow does not stop expressing herself. "Witch! I will make you pay! All of you! You defend my enemy! I be your enemy!" “No Noy-zoo?” Sam echoed, trying to copy what she heard from Mayako’s mouth, but with her accent, it probably didn’t come out very well. But still. “That kind of sounds like noise? A little? Maybe? Yes?” she was reaching here, but you had to give Sam lots of credit for trying. “Teach?” she said, adding the word that she thought meant it… “Help?” she tried… saying the word again and sighing. She put her hand on the woman on the ground. “Meadow.” She said, trying out that word for “friend” again. All she really wanted was a nice quiet bar… something to settle down with… but it never seemed to happen that way. Ah well, at least it was exciting. |
