Hi there. Thought I might take this opportunity to start a blog on my Dark Elves. I already have about 2000points painted, but haven't really played much since 8th Edition came out. As such I lost motivation at the time to paint bigger core units and just left them by the wayside. Fast forward to now and recently a friend of mine is getting back into the hobby, and we started playing Warhammer Fantasy again. So I thought this would be a good opportunity for me to get my Dark Elves up to 8th Edition speed. Unfortunately I left my case at my friends house, so I can't show you what I have completed thus far, but I can show you what I just recently completed. As with most of my armies, I tend to like the older models, so they do have a tendency to find a place in my forces purely for nostalgic reasons. For my Dark Elves, I have continued the old flavour, by incorporating the old banners from their 5th Edition Book. I love the look of these banners far more than the plastic ones you get in the boxes. Anyways, enough waffle, here are some pics of the corsairs I finished this evening. I have gone with the standard purple Dark Elves, and I'm sure I'll cop some flak for it, but it is my preferred scheme, even if it is unoriginal! ![]() ![]() As always any c&c is most welcome. Next on the painting table is another 5 corsairs. |

They look very nice I don't have much to C&C as I do like them how they look now, but there is one thing that could improve on and that would be with your washes: make them a bit more controlled and a bit less "sloppy". On the last pic, if you look at the cream-coloured part of the cape, the washes looks quite sloppy. But that's minor criticism Oh, and if you're interested, I have some old metal Corsairs that I'm looking to get rid of, so I'll post them up in my Trade thread and maybe you'd like to acquire them? |

Cheers Ludovic! I understand what you mean about the heavy wash, I did that quite deliberately as I was trying to get these guys painted. Took about 3 hours to get them all done and dusted. I'll try to be a bit less heavy handed next time. I'll check out the corsairs, as they are always handy to have

Got my case back, so here are some of the models I have completed thus far. Spearelves ![]() Repeater Crossbows ![]() Black Guard ![]() Assassins ![]() OOP Cauldron of blood, thinking I will redo the gore on this, since I now have the tamiya red ink. I like this model better than the new one. ![]() Battle standard with old banner ![]() Characters and old mage. He always miscasts in every game. No joke. ![]() More characters. Has my favourite dreadlord model of all time here. ![]() Cold One Knights, Need to paint more of these. ![]() Hydra. Nuff said. ![]() My old Rakarth model. It didn't come with a banner, so I have been chasing a replacement for years. ![]() Lastly, my friend gave me this, as he knows I have some dwarfs kicking around. I nearly fainted! Love the old dwarf models, and must find a place for them! ![]() As always and c&c is most welcome! |

You lucky man! I'm jealous ![]() And I really like your Dark Elf force, especially the banners! One tip I would have is maybe go back over the skin of some of your characters and add a bit of depth with a light wash and then an extra highlight? Anyway, I approve of this log!

Dark Elves (were) are the only army in WHF that I like(d), and I love the colours in yours. Purple may be "stereotypical" for them, but it works. Should I In any case, as another Dark Elf army fan, I approve most thoroughly!

@Brother Ludovic: Thanks! Was so surprised when he gave them to me. As for the Dark Elves, I know what you mean. I must admit the flesh would be my weakest point of this army. I'll try experimenting with the latest batch of corsairs to see if I can get some much needed depth. Then I can go over the older stuff. Like you I really like the banners, which is why I went through a lot of effort to out them on. I scanned my old Dark elf book, upped the resolution in Photoshop, then converted all the banner trimmings to the purple colour I wanted, then went to the high quality printer at uni and printed out a few copies. Plus I matt varnish them before I put them on. Love how they look, so am quite pleased with them. @Aquilanus: Cheers! I'm quite proud of them myself! |
