Whooper Update: Zoey the Flower Child, aka #10-10, has been hanging around with lots of sandhill cranes at the Hiwassee Refuge. This photo was taken by Craniac Doug McCoy. "The legbands on this Whooper are: left: black/white and right: green/red/green, which tells us this is none other than Zoey “Flower Child” Woodstock, or number 10-10." ![]() Zoey as a chick in Wisconsinfrom Journey North The team calls her Zoey “Flower Child” Woodstock. Why? • "Flower Child" is fromTrish, who says says #10-10 has been crazy about flowers—especially purple clover—ever since first seeing them. She gobbled them down whole. When she was tiny you could sometimes see the bulge travel down her neck as she swallowed! •"Woodstock" is from Brooke, who says because #10-10 is always so spacey and running around after flowers. "Before I would bring her out to train, I’d walk around and pick all the flowers so I could get her to follow.” • Zoey is from Geoff, who likes a character named Zoey in one of his video games. "She always seems to be on her own little planet," said Geoff. She loved to snap at clovers and dandelions at Patuxent WRC where she was hatched. And that's the story of how she got her full name: Zoey “Flower Child” Woodstock. |

Well, my internet usage for this month seems to be better so I uploaded another set of trip pictures. These are from our tour of Pompeii. It was fascinating to see such a well-preserved Roman city and way of life. This cover photo is Robert's favourite. He liked the sunlight on the stones with Mount Vesuvius in the background. I apologize in advance but I included two photos of my new dress at the end of the slideshow. It was my outfit for dinner that night. I loved it when I saw it in the store and lo and behold it fit me (thank you Weight Watchers ). Anyway, I hope you enjoy the little tour. There are captions beneath the pictures so just scroll down a bit. click on picture to begin

Cheryl - Love how Zoey got her name she sure seems comfortable with all the Sandhills.Your photos of Pompeii are wonderful, it amazes me how the murals have lasted for so many centuries. The architecture is beautiful and I too like Robert's favourite picture, it's postcard perfect You look fabulous, love your dress. All the hard work with WW has paid off, you are thin and shapely and could pass for Ian and Matthew's sister.

Carole, that is great news that E4 is getting some food. When Biggie is full then the little guy can relax and eat. Thank you for your comments about the Pompeii pictures. I'll let Robert know that you liked them. Thanks about my dress, too. Blue is my favourite colour so I just loved it when I saw it hanging up in the store. Robert is teaching today so I actually had to go outside with the dogs! I haven't been outdoors for about a week. I am such a wimp about the cold.

Cheryl what an awesome trip you had Amazing 's of the ruins of Pompei. How long did it take to clean it up? I'm sure everything was covered in ash and debris for centuries. The preserved victims look so much better than mummies. The citizens had such beautiful surroundings to live in Really stunning!!!You look like a model posing in your new dress. I agree with Carol's comments ![]() It's a well known fact that the thinner you are, the colder you will feel ![]() Miss Zoey Flower Child dances to a dfferent drummer Reminds me of my 'hippie days

Penny, thank you. I'm glad you liked the pictures and my dress, too. I searched in Wikipedia to find the answer to your question. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pompeii "Pompeii was rediscovered as the result of intentional excavations in 1748 by the Spanish military engineer Rocque Joaquin de Alcubierre.[16] These towns have since been excavated to reveal many intact buildings and wall paintings. Charles of Bourbon took great interest in the findings even after becoming king of Spain because the display of antiquities reinforced the political and cultural power of Naples.[17] Karl Weber directed the first real excavations;[18] he was followed in 1764 by military engineer Franscisco la Vega. Franscisco la Vega was succeeded by his brother, Pietro, in 1804."[19] |
