Jill, the kimono video sounds really interesting. I might be able to watch it. I'll have to check the internet usage first. Your introduction made me think of "Memoirs of a Geisha". That author only wrote one book. I tried to find more and that is what I read about him.

Carol, good luck with your TV. You are right, things seem to break down faster.

Kath, very cool stick bug. We have them here, too. I've always liked them! Ours are much smaller, though, and are a darker brown.

Robert is outside shovelling again.

This is the best :clk: I have of the tribute to the Chinese Year of the Horse at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. It really is a huge, stunning diorama of wild mustangs in the middle of their floral court. It is constantly moving to give the illusion of the horses galloping over the landscape. I forgot to count how many there were :P

This is the horse in the main lobby of The Bellagio. They really know how to celebrate each Chinese New year in style :)^

Wow, that is a fantastic display at the Bellagio, Penny. Ian and Allison are going to Vegas for a few days soon. I'll be sure to tell them to go have a look at this. :)^ :clk: Have you seen the nice Canada Post Year of the Horse stamps? I bought some to put on special envelopes such as birthday cards.

Hello Everyone. :}^

It looks like rain is beleaguering Carole and the Eagles, but I think we might get the "Soggiest" award for the month. The news here is reporting "the wettest January on record" in the UK. :hair: With no end in sight. :'( I would love to trade it for some of that parched California weather. :*:

Such horrible sad news about the Norfolk BE death. <:3 Any further Eagle losses there are potentially avoidable tragedies if the airport would only put measures in place to protect wildlife. I just hope and pray it wasn't Pa or his lady. Posted Image The airport certainly is unconscionably remiss in not already having a program to minimize such tragedies. Hopefully there will be enough outrage that something will eventually be done.

Ozzie, what an incredible Stick Insect!

Penny, gorgeous Year of the Horse tribute at the Bellagio!

Carol, I hope you get your TV issues solved soon. Nothing worse than miserable cold weather and no TV to distract from it. That would put me over the edge in this endless stormy weather. :hair:

Penny - Those horses are gorgeous, an awesome display in the hotel lobby.

Cheryl
- Can't believe Robert is still shovelling :flk: Very nice article and photos by George Archibald.

Ozzie - Never saw a Stick Bug before, that one is sure a biggie. ;)

Carol
- Sorry to hear your TV has died, nothing worse than being stuck in the house with this awful weather and no TV. Hope it can be repaired at a modest cost and if not, there are lots of bargains out there on new TV's.

Yes Cheryl it is always a 'must see' for us when we are in Vegas. I have so many :clk: 's of the gorgeous displays at The Bellagio. If I knew how to do the new Photobucket slideshows, I would make one, but it always drives me crazy trying to do one from my Mac :hair:

There are a lot of free shows in Vegas at various casinos both indoors and outside. The one inside at Caesars is pretty spectacular and of course the outside 'Dancing Waters' in front of The Mirage can be seen from many vantage points along the strip. The Rio had a very interesting flying show and there used to be an outdoor battle of Pirate Ships at Treasure Island with cannons et al...we didn't see it this year and I'm not sure what happened to it but there are some inside every big shopping area too, like the Miracle Mile and the Venetian.

They should take really good walking shoes with them because it is always a lot of walking..even from the free parking in the Casino's. There is a free tram that people can use to get to a few hotels. It is just a mind boggling place to be. They will have a very 'fun' time as long as they don't lose too much gambling :P

Kris I've been reading about the unprecedented :rn: the UK has been deluged with and the flooding that people are trying to cope with too :o I was worried your canal might overflow its banks too.

Still really cold here and we are going to a Checkov one act farce tonight....'The Marriage Proposal'. There are many performances of Checkov plays during the Winnipeg fest...good way to have some laughs in the dead of Winter :D Next week we are seeing 'The Anniversary'. Both of them should be very rofl

We are going to these two because we know the actors in them but there are so many others to choose from too :)^

<::: From the VDGIF: It was NOT Pa Norfolk <:::

"The various body measurements taken indicate that the bird was likely a female. We did compare the left eye to known images of the Norfolk male (which has a distinctive spot on its iris) and verified that it was not that bird. Although there was significant staining of the head and tail feathers, plumage characteristics indicate that it was a fully-adult bird, with no obvious brown spotting on the head or tail. No other obvious contributing factors to the cause of death were noted."

Well, that is a relief that it was not Pa Norfolk. Still possible bad news if it was the female partner. I was shocked to read in the original article that you posted, Penny, about the airport spending funds on redecorating the interior of the building but on the other hand saying they didn't have enough funds for a system to warn about birds.

Thanks for the tips about Vegas! I will pass them on. I think they are staying at the Mirage. It's just for a few days. They are planning on going to the Grand Canyon on Valentine's Day. If Ian gets a chance I'm sure he'll plan on going on that clear glass walk platform that is there. That kid gave me so many heart attack moments when he was little. :hair:

Kris, is your roof leaking again? The weather has been so crazy everywhere, and depressing!!! We're supposed to get another 15 cm of snow overnight. At least it will be February tomorrow. :)^

Jill, I read the blog entry. :ok:
