G'day Peeps! End of my Sunday. Balmy evening. We were relaxing, watching a new Australian series called 'Broken Shore', detective mystery. All of a sudden the cats, who were lounging on the floor in front of us, got up in alarm and ran to the front screened door. I heard banging. I went out there. Someone was filling up our rubbish bins with their rubbish! Its pick up day tomorrow. Everyone has their bins out. And because I went out there, they didnt finish. They drove off in a silver toyota sedan. I couldnt read the license. I had to finish putting their shit into the bin! Clothes, mostly kids. Socks! And a cork board (no we didnt want it). I'm astounded! Carol! So happy for you and your dinner with DD and GS! Sounds delightful!Looking forward to the game! Have Hans (no gluten) hotdogs ready!

Oh, no, Carole! I am in shock. She was the stronger, larger chick, too. Nature is so hard to understand sometimes. Do people think it was because of all the rain and damp in the nest? I'm sorry, this must have been a very upsetting start to your morning nest check. RIP E3. You will not be forgotten. So sad.

Carol, I am so very happy for you that you got to have a nice visit with your daughter, SIL and Jace. My heart just felt so good for you! Kath, the cat graphic would work for dogs, too, I think. That is crazy about the trash bins, yikes!! Plus having to clean up their junk when they left. Is there a limit on the amount of garbage people can put out like some cities have? Would that be why they were using other people's cans? The snow at the end of the driveway was as high as my elbows this morning. Thank goodness we got a snow blower a couple of years ago. If Robert didn't do all of the shovelling and snow blowing we would have to move to a condo or hire someone. He helped the neighbours again, too. This is the worst we have seen it. I had a Groundhog Day picture somewhere but I can't find it. There is chili in the crock pot. Robert is looking forward to the Big Game!

![]() The Sun was, with shock and amazement, shining all day today so I guess the weathermen and Phil are right and that this horrible weather will last until Spring. It's been a traumatic day of horrible losses in the Bird World, so I started with a note of levity. How sad about E3! Poor little Birdies are so vulnerable. We had our own horrible Bird tragedy here today. The only mercy is that it wasn't Blackie that was attacked by the Merlin that's stalking our garden. We've tried all the deterrents we can think of yet this Merlin pair are determined to make our garden their Snack Bar. This morning I heard a squabble and rushed to see what was going on. The Hawk had captured a Blackbird in the middle of a large hedge and the Blackbird was putting up a fight. I tried to scare the Hawk away and it did eventually leave after I chased it back and forth in the hedge, but it left a trail of feathers in its wake, and had dropped its poor victim in the hedge. Ed searched the hedge and found a dying Blackbird mortally wounded. The Hawk came back to claim its prey while Ed was still in the hedge looking for the injured Bird. I scared it off again but when Ed found the poor Blackbird it was taking its last breaths. Thinking it was the best thing to do he placed the by then expired Blackbird on the stone wall close by the hedge so it could at least be picked up by the Hawk and remain in the chain of life. That's exactly what happened. These Hawks have targeted our garden and we're doing all we can to deter them: bright shiny hanging things, barriers like the lattice Cheryl mentioned, and other obstacles to keep them out but not impede the smaller Birds. I just pray that our Blackie, that we rescued and released months ago with the braced leg, is smart enough to keep from falling victim to the ravenous Hawks. We see him daily so will know how he's doing in the face of the rapacious Hawks. In my lost post of the other day, that I kind of imploded over, I had told Carol how happy I was that her DD is being so kind to her now. So happy for you! And to Ozzie, that yes, our roof, recently totally redone, is still leaking after multiple repairs and though much better is still a problem in this "wettest January on record!" with more to come. We've even noticed Birds of several species becoming ill and hanging around on the patio until they just disappear. We've tried to save some of them but it seems it may be an an illness brought on by the incessant rain and they don't respond to healing intervention. Our canal is not in danger of flooding as Penny was concerned for, but the nearby narrow and badly paved roads are suffering from flood damage. Nothing enough to stop travel but enough to have to go slow through the flooded parts and need to avoid the emerging potholes. I couldn't want to be in California much more than I do now but until the certain immigration issues that are in process go through and "due process" is approved we're stuck in limbo and can't make any decisions, or do much of anything else. |

Kris, what an awful experience that must have been. OMG There's not much else you can do to discourage the predators except not put out the seed. I know that is difficult to do because the small birds need the extra source of food in the bad weather. We've had a dilemma over that here because of the hawk that swoops in, trying to pick off a songbird. We decided to take a chance and refill the feeders because the snow has blanketed everything. about the leak. It's not healthy for either of you. No doubt the wheels of the immigration department are grinding slowly, but they must be moving in the right direction. Hang in there. |

Oh, Cheryl! that's the best news I've heard all day! Now, when will the powers that be leave them alone and do what 's needed for wildlife protection at the airport?

Cheryl we're going to have vegetarian Chili I made yesterday GMTA!!! along with various and sundry healthy and unhealthy snacks ![]() TORONTO – The millions of Canadians tuning in the Super Bowl on Sunday night are more eager to take in the lavish television ads than the football game itself, a new survey suggests. ![]() A recent Harris/Decima poll found that while a third of Canadians plan to tune into the National Football League’s marquee event, 46 per cent intend to watch the ads that air throughout the game

Penny, this is just speculation that I read in the chat. Someone thought possibly it could be the aspergillosis, the same thing that happened to the eaglet called Phoenix. Kris, Phillip Hoffman seemed like such a talented person with a lot to offer to the world. We just saw a clip about him on CNN. Penny, I made some peanut butter cookies - haven't baked in ages. Bad Cheryl!!! And Robert bought chips and dip for the game ... more bad. It's that kind of day, dreary and sad. The house smells delicious, though. Funny about the ads. We just played a hide and seek game with the dogs. They are restless with not being able to go for long walks. That has worn them out for awhile at least. They run around the house trying to find us, then the other person hides and so on. |
