I really feel for all of you back East with that heavy wet :flk: and freezing :rn:
Take it easy with the shoveling, driving if you have to go out :ok:
Half a million people in Philly have no power :8O:

It is -27C/-17F here this morning and with the windchill it is -37C :o
No :flk: though the sky is very overcast and we are supposed to get more of it on Thursday.

The snow is falling like crazy. We are out of bird seed, too. The birds are all here looking for something to eat. Robert has headed over to the nearest store to see what he can find. I was hoping to be able to wait until Friday when it might have gone on sale. He is so helpful, getting the ladder out and filling the feeders.

Kath, I really liked the photographer's sample pictures. After going through this recently with Ian and Allison I know what a big decision it is choosing the photographer who suits your vision for your day. The giraffe one and the one with all the tree roots were two that really caught my eye. I noticed that you were going to see the florist, too, I think. How exciting for you and Bob! :Hugs:

Carol, your birthday flower gifts are sure to cheer up your home in this dreary weather. I know what you mean about freezing rain - it is the worst and most dangerous.

Penny, how is your new TV working? You and Carol have nice new TVs just in time for the Olympics. Robert and I watch the Olympics pretty well non-stop once they start. This morning they had the ceremony to raise the Canadian flag.

I don't know where else you can put any more snow, Penny. That pile beside Allan was humungous.

I need some coffee - woke up at 5 am with a sad dream about my Siamese cat that Robert gave me for my 20th birthday. Then I couldn't get back to sleep. I've been working on cleaning out the kitchen cupboards just to keep myself occupied in this miserable weather.

Take care, everyone.

The new HD TV is awesome Cheryl. We are really looking forward to watching the Olympics too. I filled my feeders again this morning...no ladders necessary for me :P I buy my seed at a wildlife store very far from where we live because they have such fresh bags of non toxic seed and everything you could want for the care and feeding of birds. We stocked up last week with 50 lb bags of white millet and pre-shelled nuts mixed with seed that the squirrels really love :D

Ozzie the examples from the French :clk: were quite artsy :)^ Some of them were too 'distant' for my liking, but if those were balanced with many more close-ups it would make for quite a stunning wedding album <3 Are you going to have a videographer there too? Sounds like it will be beautiful and meaningful, just as it should be for your very special wedding day Posted Image

FEBRUARY 5, 2014 - Moments in Time

Southwest Florida :<<o>>: Cam- Nest Notes for Feb. 4

E4- “See my big wings” (dadsjazz)

Dad delivers his fresh catch (from video by urdognu)

As the Eagle family adjusts to daily life since the passing on of precious E3, Ozzie and Harriet hunted, stood guard and brought nest materials for their sweet and growing E4. E4’s day consisted of busying himself waiting for meal time and watching the outside world go by. Dad spent time with E4 counting the passing cars as E4 did many times with E3. All attention is focused on E4’s growth and protection.

Mom and Dad each delivered fresh fish and E4 ate to his heart’s content. E4 is growing strong and is practicing wing flapping and standing and walking tall. It appears that Eagles live in the moment, not lamenting the past and not projecting the future. Their survival depends on it. Human nature can learn valuable lessons from Eagle nature.

COFFEE, OH YES!!!!!!!

Cheryl - Pretty butterfly graphic / Hope all your wedding plans go
well / Not fun to have a sleepless night/ It was near morning
when I fell asleep.

Penny - Minus37 Brrrrrrr /You must have really happy birds!
So sad to see the Fla nest /

Jill - cute cartoon / rofl rofl

We are having a really Horrendous snow/sleet/freezing rain storm /
So worse than snow /started after midnight and is just slowing
up 12Noon. / The door that I use was frozen shut this morning. I
was trying to bang it open and the manager's boyfriend heard me
and did a couple shovelfuls outside the door so it would open .
I did a couple shovelfuls but it is heavy. About 3 inches of snow
then layers of ice on top..
Everything is closed here. Not just the schools but most businesses
also. Even the libraries and the court house. And No line dancing /

On top of that the glasses I always wear, which are 10 years old,
(New ons I got a couple years ago don't work) broke last night
The screw from the glasses to the ear piece came out

On top of that my NEW TV doesn't work :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
try to turn it on and tells me it's NOT programmed.
So that is my tale of woe! rofl rofl BUT I'm still alive and my
little portable radio is working aand YOU ARE ALL OUT THERE

- cute graphic, Jill (that's cat attitude for sure)

Carol, for a temporary fix for your glasses, get a twist-tie, remove the green stuff around the wire, line up the holes on the glasses and ear piece, and push the wire through and twist it shut. That should work until you can get out to have the screw replaced. The wire on a twist tie is thin enough to go through the holes. You have a smart city locking everything down and calling for a snow day - much safer than expecting folks to be at work and school.

Penny, you should have seen all the birds in the trees watching Robert fill the feeders. As soon as he went inside - zoom, zoom, they were chowing down. It is still snowing. Robert has shovelled once and will be going out again. Thanks for the nest update and thoughts.

Hi everyone :}^ Sorry I just have been so busy that I haven't had the time to post here. It's been hectic with SIL here and now cousins here from Montreal (they aren't staying with us TG) and lots of social invitations that have exhausted me. Oh well, in a few weeks, I can finally relax, enjoy my eagle friends, and just chill out.

G'day Peeps, my overcast Thursday. Might even spit rain. Heat wave expected next week, its in western Australia right now moving slowly across.

Carol, it sounds like you need to program your own TV, there should be instructions with the TV to do that. Do you have a Cable provider? If yes, call them as ask them to walk/talk you through it.

Gosh, Carole, I'm gonna call you Party Girl. You need to go home to rest! rofl

I love your description of the birds chowing down Cheryl! :)^ :D Very good of you to feed the birds.

Penny, you and the other girls up there stay warm and safe.

Love the SB link, snagging Jillers.

I ordered a print of a painting I saw whilst in Canberra, I had to get special permission and pay a copyright fee, shesh. I will get it professionally framed to hang in the dining room as that has a nice 'tree' vista to complement the print. Hans Heysen, 'Spring'. Impressionist (German migrant to Australia), he painted as a whim for his children. I just fell in love with it.

Cheryl - Thanks for the wire tip / you have such happy birds!

Jillers - Pretty views of Santa Barbara

Carole - Hope you can enjoy the events there

KLJinOZ - Lovely spring painting / Dr. Sal (my SIL) had programmed it / The wire
in the back was not all pushed in the conncection

Well my TV is working again. I saw the comcast man walk by here at Windtryst
and asked a question about my TV and he was kind enough to look at it
and it was just a loose wire I am so thankful / Managed to shovel my path to the Main
sidewalk. Again I had an angel come by and did part of it for me. It was so heavy.
I did manage to get to my car and got it cleaned off so I could move it and
thankfully they plowed out the parking lot
A good evening to you all. Have to get my income tax papers together /

Carol that is great news about your TV...if anything happens in the future, you'll remember to check all the cords first :D I think your manager's boyfriend should be shoveling your way out every single time...that :flk: is too heavy and wet and combined with the freezing :rn: that is very hard to deal with :o Drive very carefully and watch out for the other guy. :chk:

Ozzie that is a gorgeous painting and should look great anywhere you put it. How large is the print? Did you figure out what to do about the beetles in your garden?

Lily the Black Bear – UPDATE February 5, 2014

Noisy Den

Posted Image :clk:
Juliet's 3 cubs

Activity in Juliet’s den is heating up. We wonder if her 3 cubs are beginning to claim their own nipples. It sure sounds like that could be the case!

Yesterday in Juliet’s den, the suspense was a cub crawling along Juliet’s side, crying, and trying to find its way back to the warmth under its mother. Juliet continued breathing steadily and didn’t raise her head. Her breaths were different from Holly’s. Starting at 5 PM, Juliet took 11-13 seconds to inhale and exhale (average 12.0) and paused only 9-12 seconds (10.7 seconds average) before taking the next breath, breathing 2.43 times per minute.

Holly

Things are quieter in Holly’s den. She was completely buried in her straw. The only action was the straw rising and falling as she breathed. Being easily entertained, we got into that. She inhaled and exhaled in 7-8 seconds (ave. = 7.5 seconds), paused 12-20 seconds (ave. = 18.0 seconds), and took her next breath, breathing only 2.35 times per minute. Holly became more active later in the day as this video will show.

Holly pops up

We’re looking forward to comparing Juliet’s daily time budget with those of Lily and Jewel. The Den-watchers will know best, but it seems to us that 10-year-old Juliet is calmer and more restful that the other two.

Juliet and cub

Lily Fans might have noticed the jump of $72,864.29 in the Bear Center thermometer last evening. A staff member had noticed that 3 big donations needed to be added to the thermometer—the GiveMN check for $49,419 (deposited December 16), the GiveMN award check for $11,500 (deposited December 18), and the Eveleth Bear donation of $11,244 (deposited January 27). New staff procedures will ensure the timely addition of future donations of this kind. A big thank you to all who made this support possible.

Thank you for all you do.
