Whooper Update by Heather Ray: Whooping Cranes Heading North Feb.27,2014 It would seem some of the Whooping cranes in the Eastern Migratory Population are heading north. We’ve received a number of reports over the past few days of cranes arriving in areas north of where they wintered. A volunteer tracker in southern Illinois has confirmed eight Whooping cranes, including 2011 birds 3, 4, 17, 19 and 27-06 & 26-09, 38-09, and one other as yet to ID. A bit further south, two Whoopers (1-04 & 8-05), which I (Heather) had the pleasure of seeing in December at Wheeler NWR in north Alabama were reported last week in mid-Tennessee.

Thank you for the book recommendations, Carole. I've saved the titles and author to my little list of books to check out. Matthew dropped off a paperback of the first novel in the Game of Thrones series. Penny, the bears look all snug and warm. for Dr. Rogers and team. Happy polar bear day yesterday. I forgot to comment on that.Carol, nice job on capturing the sunlight sparking on the frozen branches in your MCR photo. I'm glad you were able to get there and to your line dancing class.Kath, another fun ginger cat picture.

This is a video of the "Wall of Snow" which blew in like a desert sandstorm yesterday. We don't live in this area in the video but it happened in several regions of Ontario yesterday. Remember when I wrote that Robert came home with his face all red and drenched in snow? When he saw this video on the news last night he said that is exactly what it looked like as he was walking the dogs. Matthew saw it where he was working, too. Thank goodness all those who were driving in it were OK. There is a short ad at the beginning, sorry I can't get rid of it. Carole, this is closer to where you live - thought you might like to see what you are missing.

Cheryl - That wall of snow is It made the Sarasota newspaper this morning. It must have been so frightening for drivers to lose all visibility so quickly. Highway 400 is always a dangerous road in winter, prefer to stay off it. Robert and the dogs really experienced this squall, poor guy With all this abnormal weather, I hope the migrating cranes stay safe, it's way to early to head north. |

Ozzie - Not too many plans down here, we sort of wing-it with golf, shopping and being with friends. Having my sister and her husband and another couple for dinner on Monday night. Not sure what the menu is yet, either a BBQ mixed grill or a beef tenderloin roast. Our friends who rent behind us down here are leaving for home today so last night we went out for a farewell dinner and were surprised to see my sister and the couple who are coming here Monday, at the restaurant, we had a good laugh. It's quite the fancy place and the food is fabulous. The portions are so big we always share a main course and appetizer. Here's the website.... http://www.bestfood.com/restaurant/menus/#Dinner |

Carol - Such a pretty photo from MCR. The ice on the trees look like tiny lights. Stay warm and safe with the storm coming Penny - The cubbies are so cute. At least Juliet is keeping them warm, too much snow. Sorry to hear you are still in a deep freeze. Will try and send you some from down south.

We went to Morton's once $$$$$. The nice thing about Michael's is that when you share a dinner, it is divided up in the kitchen and you both get a plate with beautiful presentation, no charge for sharing. Last night we had the sea bass which was We also buy the gift cards from Costco for $79.95 giving us $100.00 to spend, saving 20% is great. It is a special occasion restaurant, not one we go to often.
