There are lots of last-minute things for me to do today. Just wanted to say hi. I have seen that beautiful drone video, Penny. I am so excited to get to see the whales again. We were fortunate to see a mother whale, her calf, and a male escort the first time we were in Hawaii. The mother was not happy about the male being around and kept lifting her tail very high and slapping it down hard. She did that about 30 times. The captain of the tour boat was so excited that she got up on the roof and was pumping her arms in the air. It was quite something. She kept telling everyone how lucky we were that day. that we'll get to see the whales again. That's why we're going to Hawaii and not the Caribbean. In Alaska we had a humpback come up right behind the boat (which was just drifting because they can't get within a certain distance). I was on the back of the tour boat and could see right down into the blow hole, which looked like a bunch of valves, not just a hole as I had always imagined. Best wishes for the court case outcome for the bears and Dr. Rogers' team. Kris, that is so sad about the juvenile osprey not making it. I hope that Lady returns safely to her nest. I'm not taking my computer so I will have a lot of catching up to do when I get home. Stay well, everyone. I'll try to check in later if I have a chance.

Niagara Falls comes to a frozen halt.....![]() For the second time in what has been a frigid winter in the Northeastern United States, Niagara Falls has come to an icy halt as the six million cubic feet of water that flow over the falls every minute has frozen over. The flow of water over the falls typically can withstand icy temperatures like those that have frozen much of the country this winter, but Monday's high of 9 degrees Fahrenheit brought Niagara Falls to a standstill - and photographers were there to snap some stunning images of it ![]() More Pics and Videos |

I just found a Live Coverage link for the DNR 'trial' of Dr. Rogers ![]() Morning Summary: Chief Administrative Law Judge Tammy Pust did not grant Rogers' motion to dismiss the DNR's case. Rogers continues to present his side. One witness so far: Charlie Meyer, resident of Eagles Nest Twp. Meyer feeds bears -- in a feeding station outside his house and by hand -- and has for years. He said he doesn't feel endangered by bears and that those who do don't understand bears. Afternoon Summary: Sherry Hill, cabin owner in Eagles Nest Twp and also a feeder, also testified she's had no bear problems. Roberta Sonnino, a vice dean at Wayne State University and bear course participants, testified that Rogers' work is valuable and scholarly even if it's not peer-reviewed published in scientific journals Thomas Wood, conservation biologist and bear course participant, testified that he believes Rogers' ability to follow bears without darting them offers tantalizing possibilities Follow the Court Case of Dr. Rogers I hope there will be a Lily Update tonight

G'day Peeps, my sunny Wednesday but its not suppose to last, with more rain predicted. It is definitely heading towards fall Downunder. Have a GREAT trip Cheryl and we will miss you while you are gone. Lots of photos too please! I met a young man at Bob's son's BBQ last weekend who happened to be in Niagara earlier this year when it froze over. This young man travels a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the Falls, but not the town which he said was too touristy. He is a kinda guy who likes to get off the beaten track but also see natural wonders (dont we all!). As for Ellen sharing the Pizza! So the Cat got some cheese too (but not the pizza) ![]() Floris-van-Dijck-Still-Life with Cheeses Carol, your photo looks like BoraBora, a place I have always wanted to go. Love your photos this morning Carole, always. |

Thanks for the send-off, peeps. Funny cats, Kath, especially the green eyes on the one on the left. The city of Niagara Falls was a bit on the tacky side the last time we were there, too. It's better just to stay along the falls. Thanks for all the pictures of the frozen falls, Penny. Just beautiful. I hope for the best for Dr. Rogers and his team, and the bears, too. Sampson's name suits him perfectly in the pose that you posted, Carole. Carol, I hope you get to see lots more birds at MCR during the winter thaw. It is coming, right? |

Cheryl - KLJinOZ - I just got to Niagara fall about 10 years ago for the weekend and could not believe that the town was so touristy but loved the beautiful falls and eating at the tower that goes around and the Niagara plant place with birds (One had a beautiful long tail like ribbons ) Went to a couple other places beyond the town/ Couldn't take the boat ride was closed down for the season / Cheryl - We have So much snow, but got to MCR on Friday / Saw my eagles and some snow geese there / Talked to some fellow bird watchers / One turned out to be a reporter. He put my photo watching birds in the paper / Anything for my eagles / this winter the whole reservoir is frozen over / It's such a cold winter / Signing out early |

![]() The legal fight between the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and an Ely, Minnesota bear researcher continued in a St. Paul courtroom Tuesday. The DNR has refused to renew Lynn Rogers' permit to place collars on bears and install den cameras. Rogers' attorney says his client doesn't need a permit and the DNR has no case. "We're the only study in the world where we walk with the bears. We're the only ones really learning their behavior, their ecology." said Rogers. The DNR says Rogers' research is creating a public safety risk. "Doctor Rogers hand feeds bears and habituates them to the extent that bears view people up there as a source of food." said Chris Niskanen with the DNR. The judge refused a request from Rogers' attorney to throw out the case. The hearing should run through the end of the week. The judge will issue a report to the DNR and it will get the final say if a permit is granted DNR Battles Bear Researcher in Court |
