Thanks Carole I hope it does too ![]() I opened our bedroom window today and took out the screen on one side with great difficulty and managed to shovel a lot of very heavy wet off the den roof. I don't go out on it but can get a lot of snow off because the part outside the window is a pitched roof. It was hard to push it off because I could only use one arm. I managed to scrape two knuckles on my left hand pretty badly on the very first shovel full too They were bleeding so bad, I used a disposable glove on that hand after I got my fingers bandaged and then I put on my heavy duty winter gloves to continue. Too bad I didn't do that in the first place I got the deepest areas of the snow load removed so we don't need to hire anybody now.The breeze freshened up the room and the has already melted off the ice layer on the shingles because they are dark brown It's 3C/37F but feels a lot warmer on the south side with the sun beating down

DH just had a confrontation with our neighbour from H*@L . He and a family member were using roof rakes to get all the off his roof and then a snowblower to get rid of it. Only problem is they are blowing a lot of it onto our property He has been shoveling his front driveway down to the pavers all winter long and piling it up mostly on our property to the point where we have no access to our furnace vent pipes unless we go on his property to get to them.![]() Side view of the piles on our property which go right up to our foundation trees. ![]() The other side of his driveway, piles are much lower. He was so irate when DH asked him not to blow the snow against our fence or on our property that he walked right up to him and tried to start a fight. DH says, "I'm 3 times your age and you need to go to an anger management class to control yourself." DH said he was like a wild animal...we think his wife has left him but can't be sure because we do see her with the kids once a month or so. He was so mad, I hope his wife doesn't bring the kids over tonight The snowblower has been in operation for almost an hour already ![]() When that comes out of the chute it sounds like rocks hitting the house walls.

The Queen look really wonderful and even Prince Phillip looks great when they attended Westminster Abbey for Commonwealth Day. I love those fascinator hats...sadly, if I were to wear one here I would be laughed at Not in Montreal though ![]() Yes, today is Commonwealth day here. 'The second Monday in March was chosen as a day with no existing historical connotations. While Commonwealth Day is not a public holiday, the Canadian federal government orders government installations worldwide, such as federal buildings, airports, military bases etc. to fly the Royal Union Flag alongside Canada’s own flag on this day. There is a multi-faith service at Westminster Abbey, usually where the Queen delivers an address to Commonwealth which is broadcast throughout the world. In Canada, the Prime Minister and other ministers make statements as well.' I have no idea what if anything was planned by the city to celebrate...it's so 'laissez faire' in this neck of the Prairies ![]() Did they do anything special in Oz Ozzie? |

Well, the neighbour called us to apologize for his very bad behaviour and insisted he has tried very hard to keep all his on his own property. I told him to take a sight line from the sidewalk in front and he will see how much he has actually put onto our property which, by the way, happens to be quite a bit lower than his, so we get more runoff than he does. He said the reason he was so upset was that he has a leak from the snow on his roof and it has caused some damage. I told him we have somebody coming tomorrow to get rid of a lot of snow that has piled up around our basement windows on the side facing him. He tells us he has the exact same problem from his neighbour on the other side of his house who has been pushing all the snow from his sidewalk into his window wells...so he should know what not to do to us. We have never done anything to impact his property but he is constantly doing things all year long that impact ours ![]() However, he did make the effort to try to make amends but DH doesn't plan on even saying 'Hello" to him again

A truly interesting video on how the USS Pennsylvania works. It is a nuclear powered submarine powered by a lump of uranium the size of your fist that provides all of the power to navigate and provide power for all of the daily operations. It has been running since 1989 without having to refuel. Ever wonder how they get fresh air under water to last for months? How do they launch a nuclear warhead? How they can make the submarine quiet to avoid detection? This is fascinating!! http://www.chonday.com/Videos/pen1usnav1 Abandoned but Beautiful- http://www.duskyswondersite.com/tag/ghost-town-keelung-in-Taiwan/ |

Lily the Black Bear – UPDATE March 10, 2014 Welcome Warmth ![]() Honey takes a stroll Today, the temperature in Ely rose to 51F—a veritable heat wave! Snow began to melt and puddles formed. It seemed everyone was out and about enjoying the warm weather…and that included Honey. She left her den and wallowed in the snow a bit before thinking better of it and heading back. Holly peered out of her den but didn’t venture out. ![]() Juliet tends to a cub Water began dripping into Juliet’s den and she immediately licked any drop that fell on her cubs. The cubs are now covered with dense fur and no longer need to be tucked under Juliet to stay warm. We’re getting many views of the cubs and continue to attempt to determine gender. ![]() Juliet licks water off a cub We have yet to see a female cub so we’re beginning to think Juliet may have 3 male cubs. Time will tell. An article on the recent permit hearing is here. If “gadfly” and “nutty professor” are the worst we hear, we can’t complain. Thank you for all you do. —Lynn Rogers and Sue Mansfield, Biologists, Wildlife Research Institute and North American Bear Center All photos taken today unless otherwise noted. |
