The migrating birds have started to arrive in our backyard. The juncos have left for northern areas of Ontario. Today the male rose-breasted grosbeak was at our feeder. On Monday the female was here. They arrive around the 5th of May each year. We've also had white-crowned sparrows pecking around in the grass. They stay for a few days, then they are gone. Unfortunately we never seem to have any warblers in our yard. The red-winged blackbirds are showing off their epaulettes. |

A baby donkey was born this morning at the Service Dog Project farm. The mother was a rescue donkey. They didn't know she was pregnant when they got her but she kept getting larger and larger. Carlene's daughter, Janine, rescues horses and donkeys and finds new homes for them. People have been on baby donkey watch for weeks because they had no idea when it would be born. Here is a link to the Explore cameras. If you scroll down below the mosaic of pictures and the green rectangle of information you will see links to the birth videos. You can also see the baby donkey on the live cam. http://explore.org/live-cams/player/service-dog-project-nursery-cam |

Cheryl - The baby donkey is so sweet and seems to be doing very well. I enjoyed the videos too. It's a beautiful sunny day here and should go up to 58 F.

Hurray for E8 - especially with the nest in such poor condition! I'll send your caption picture along to my sister, Carole.

E8 is on the top snag and E7 on the lower branch. It is pouring and they are flapping and wingersizing so much.

Whew, what a day. I'm not usually this busy with work and it takes away from posting with friends and facebook, darn it! It my 6pm Thursday. Also Cinco de Mayo! Whilst in the City yesterday I stopped at a popular Mexico joint called Guzman and Gomez. $9 for two spicy chicken tacos. They are GOOD, but a bit pricey, huh! That was my (early) Cinco de Mayo celebration. Laughing at E8, way to go little guy! Hope you are having a great trip Deb (if you pop in). Your May spring is my May fall, but weather has been on the v. warm side and wilting my winter veggies (spinach mostly). Crazy. I like the sound of your glasses Cheryl. I go for plain readers myself. What birds are chasing your red winged black birds Carol? Thanks for posting the updates Carole, always fun to come here and see whats happening. Soon they will all be away. Here is my contribution for the day: http://www.birdlife.org/worldwide/news/say-%E2%80%98no%E2%80%99-extinction-saving-bristly-and-his-fourteen-companion |
