What excitement! E8 landed on the nest when a fish was delivered and the nest gave way and he fell or sort of fluttered to the ground. Everything is fine now, he had to figure out how to get momentum to fly upwards. After several tries he made it to a tree where Mom was and then flew to another tree, a true lesson in learning for this smart little eaglet ![]()

Carole, great coverage of E-8's "Excellent Adventure". What a smart Eaglet. Yesterday Ed and I went to a nearby wood known for its Spring ground cover of Blue Bells. I've posted pics of past years' Blue Bells before but these were taken yesterday. Photobucket went wacky on me and kept me from posting a couple more. ![]() ![]() Ed found this Badger skull near to a now mostly deserted Badger colony, that was very active last time we visited the wood. There have been much protested ongoing efforts to cull many poor Badgers under the erroneous idea that they spread TB to livestock. ![]() Nearby was this freshly dug Badger hole. They dig burrows and tunnels through the chalk layers with powerful claws and pile up mounds of white chunks outside, many with claw marks on them.

Kris - The Blue Bells are so pretty You and Ed are so fortunate to have so many lovely places to walk to and enjoy the flora and fauna. Poor little badger , why can't the Brits just leave nature to be nature and not interfere with it, they are so small minded.

Good evening, everybody. Kris, what a beautiful walk in the forest you had with Ed. My favourite colour is blue so of course I loved the bluebells. It's sad about the badgers, though.Carole, oh my, poor E8 had to think fast and solve a big problem. He did well! It paid off that he spent so much time watching and learning about the nest area before he fledged. That way he knew what to do. Thank you for the pictures of his adventure. Kath, are you feeling any better? I watched the "Bristly" video and read the article about restoring habitat. There is hope - the whoopers were down to about 15 birds in the wild at one point. There's not much genetic diversity because of that but the scientists brought the species back from the edge. You sound like you are happy to be busy with your job so that's good. Carol, congratulations on your second place ribbon. I hope the 'participation' ribbons at least said that and were a different colour than yours. Hello to Jill and Penny, too. Deb is enjoying her trip with Megan and has posted pictures on FB. Hi to Linda if you are reading this as well. There are so many stories coming from the Fort McMurray evacuees, such as what precious items they grabbed when they only had a few minutes to get out. I picked up my glasses today and had them fitted. I like both pair (I got sunglasses, too). We also went to a couple of garden centres but a lot of the hanging baskets are looking miserable, wilted and dying because of the weather. I'm not paying for damaged flowers. We're having our Mother's Day family dinner tomorrow instead of Sunday because it worked out better with Allison's schedule. That's fine, I don't care what day we get together. Oh, almost forgot - I had another terrific backyard sighting - this time it was a male indigo bunting. |

G'day Peeps, my Sunny Saturday. Very very hazy/smoky outside due to controlled vegetation burn offs around Sydney. I left at 9am to get my car washed thinking I'd be the early bird, well NO. 3 hours wait at the car wash so I walked up Pymble to deliver an envelop to clients (about 20 minutes) then back to Gordon (another 30 minutes) had a coffee and toast with honey, then went to the library to do some research work for a client. Yes, I have to work most of the weekend, feast or famine. sigh. At least my car is clean! Tomorrow we are suppose to have the start of a few days of rain. Thank goodness E8 had the smarts to get up from ground level! Thanks for posting Carole. What are you doing for Mother's day? I too have bluebells in my garden Kris! I have concentrated them around a dwarf crepe Myrtle, a nice spring combination. Seeing them is such profusion wild in nature is amazing! Interesting about the badgers, I didnt know that. Enjoy your early Mother's Day Cheryl. Not celebrating myself, Rachel is not here and Bob is still not able to sit for long, but I dont mind. The indigo bunting sighting wouldve been thrilling (I looked up what they look like!) Carol, why is the Art Admin guy strange? Congrats on the ribbon too, was it for a photo or a painting? So sad about the Canadian fire. Its huge too. All those trees, wildlife. It is unseasonably warm here too, Leo enjoying the autumn weather. ![]() sigh.....
