Thinking of everyone today as some will be without their mothers for the very first time and some will be without their children. But the day is here and we can all think of happy events with our mothers and our children and be glad that we had those precious moments. |

My sister has sent me a message that something bad has happened at the Ft. Meyers nest but I cannot find any information. Just to be prepared. I know Carole posted about the nest collapsing but this is something else.

I copied this from Eagleholic News Possible owl attack on eaglets E7 and E8 at the SWFEC eaglecam nest. Where is E8?I have been watching this story throughout the day and thought it a good idea to post what we know for sure and what we don’t know. A cam viewer reported at about 3am Sat that it looked like an owl had attacked the nest and the eaglets and since that time E8 has not been seen. The owl attack has not been confirmed, but what is confirmed is that E8 has not been seen all day. Both eaglets have fledged and are able to fly, so E8 really could be anywhere. It is unusual for a newly fledged eaglet to leave the nest area, but not unheard of. It is also important to remember that the eaglets are bigger than the owls at this point in their life, so it is not at all likely that owl, if there an attack, would have carried E8 away or anything like that. If E8 was seriously injured, it would be likely that he would be on the ground near the nest and many folks have been looking all day and have not seen E8 -although it is not clear whether the fields have been searched directly on the ground. So talons crossed that E8 is just away, perhaps startled or scared away, but it is reasonably likely that all is okay. I hope that helps a little bit with the worries. We will all feel better if E8 pops up again on cam for sure, but all we can do at this point is trust that lots of people are watching for him and keep everyone posted. I was so upset over this that I couldn't even post on the forum yesterday. Hopefully E8 is still alive and will make it back to the nest Edited by Naturegal, May 8 2016, 07:26 AM.

Cheryl thanks for the heads up on the Ft. Myers nest...this is the last posting on the cam chat I saw... " E8 last seen on cam 3:30am. Viewer posted they saw an owl "knock" both E8 & E7 off branch. E7 & adults have been seen, but not E8. No further information known & we will not speculate. We will share any info when we receive it." ![]() I do not think an owl would attempt to take an eaglet for prey because they are too big. Lets hope E8 is somewhere nearby

Your words are perfect and mean a lot to me, thanks. I was supposed to go out for lunch with Susan today but last night we went out for Chinese food with friends and I ate something that didn't agree with me and was up all night with a type of stomach flu. I feel wiped out today so had to cancel with Susan but we will do it another time. |

Oh Carole so sorry you are not feeling too well...maybe it could have been MSG ![]() I'm sure you are so anxious to find out about E8. What a thing to have happen at this stage of the nesting season. I am thinking positive thoughts for him I'll check in later to see what you've found out. Have to get ready to go to Mom's and pick up our former neighbour, who has the same name, for our annual Mother's Day brunch with the 2 Barbara's

![]() Happy Mother's Day to all you dear Ladies, and to all Mothers, human and non, everywhere. I too am worried sick about E-8. He has had some tough challenges but, after having just fledged last week, he made such a brilliant recovery from his fall of a couple of days ago it seemed he was well on his way to thriving. I pray he's somewhere nearby and is sighted soon. Carole, I hope you're recovering from your stomach problem. Cheryl, how special to see an Indigo Bunting! It was the most loved Bird of my favorite Poet, Edna St Vincent Millay. In fact there's a biography of her called "The Indigo Bunting", by Vincent Sheehan I think. To many she is remembered as a writer of light verse but she won a Pulitzer Prize for her writing in 1922 and her sonnets are considered some of the most brilliant in the English language. I have several First Editions of her poetry books, was born on her birthday, February 22nd, and can recite many of her works from memory. This is a rare "Painted Bunting" sighted in Vermont in March. We have Corn Buntings here but not sure of other types. ![]() Dear E-8 many hearts and prayers are with you.
