It's Victoria Day here, our first long weekend during a season of nice weather. We could hear the fireworks last night but didn't go to watch. We don't like leaving the dogs alone as the noise makes them a bit nervous.

We've had a busy weekend because Ian was the Best Man in his friend Tom's wedding. Tom's parents still live only a few houses away from us. Ian stayed here on Friday night after the rehearsal. Another groomsman stayed in Matthew's bedroom since Matthew was away. The guys got ready on Saturday morning at Tom's parents' house. Ian called me in a panic asking how does one attach a boutonniere properly. I was going through detailed instructions when suddenly he said, "Never mind! Somebody found a video on YouTube!" Allison came here between the wedding and reception along with the other groomsman's wife. I took pictures of them because they'd had their hair and makeup done. They looked so beautiful and sexy. They weren't bridesmaids. They needed to leave a car here so we saw them again yesterday when they came to pick it up. The wedding photos were being taken over at the art gallery/museum property near us. We walked over and got a couple of quick pictures. |

Cheryl - We made sure we stayed home last night because of the fireworks that scare Maya. She eventually got used to it but wouldn't leave my lap Would love to see some of the photos of Allison and the girls Bless You Tube when you want information. My girlfriend has repaired so many little things around the house watching the You Tube videos. |

Peeps ![]() Victoria Day is a federal Canadian statutory holiday celebrated on the last Monday on or before May 24, in honour of both Queen Victoria's birthday and the current reigning Canadian sovereign's official birthday. It is sometimes informally considered as marking the beginning of the summer season in Canada. Victoria Day is also a mark of the beginning of the cottage season, the time when cottage owners reverse the winterization of their property. Gardeners in Canada will similarly regard Victoria Day as the beginning of spring, as it falls at a time when one can be fairly certain that frost will not return until the next autumn. The holiday has been observed since before Canada was formed, originally falling on the sovereign's actual birthday, and continues to be celebrated in various fashions across the country on the fixed date. Royal salutes (21-gun salutes) are fired in each provincial capital and in the national capital at noon on Victoria Day. to all those celebrating it.

Here's the best I could do. I didn't want to interfere with the professional photographer so my angle wasn't good. Ian is standing, second from the left. Neil is below with the red socks. He's a sharp dresser any time. The bride's name is Shannon. She's a university prof. I think the other members of the wedding party are her sisters and Tom's two brothers. ![]() Robert is holding the dogs in the background. The dogs couldn't figure out why they couldn't go over to say hi to Ian.

Cheryl - Lovely wedding photo, Ian is so handsome. Mia and Wynn look totally confused as to why they can't be part of the wedding party or at least say hello to Ian. Allison is stunning, what a gorgeous couple she and Ian make. Love her outfit. Edited by Naturegal, May 23 2016, 06:41 AM.

This is Daniela, married to the groomsman Neil, who is also Ian's friend. Neil played professional hockey in Germany. She is from Germany, met him, they fell in love, she emigrated to Canada and left her family and friends behind. She is a nurse and works in the emergency room with Allison. She said she'd send the pictures to her family. ![]()

Cheryl the pics of the girls are great. They look so fresh and cool in their summer outfits. Your outdoor space looks really lush and so beautiful with the foliage in the background. I can just see the "what???" look on the dogs faces We had the worst thunder and lightning storm here last night Siobhan did not get frantic though which was a blessing. It may be because she is a bit deaf now. It is cooler this morning but heading up to 79F. Right now it is 62 and overcast. I feel really badly for all those people who were camping out in tents at the parks and lakes last night.Meanwhile, I discovered early last evening that we have a huge infestation of forest tent caterpillars at the back of our property which have denuded two young trees...one of which we transplanted from the front. The day before they looked just gorgeous and now they are skeletal ![]() These were taken with the wrong setting on the camera because I was so upset The bottom is of the ground under one tree...there were masses of thousands UGH !!!I sent my landscaper an EM asking what I should use on them...his reply was RAID !!!! I am not sure if the birds eat these guys The City is using an organic baccillus which is sprayed up into the trees with high pressure hoses but the public can't get that stuff. Anybody have any other suggestions? |

Penny, no wonder you were so upset with an invasion like that! Holy cow! Sorry about the tree damage. I don't have any suggestions because we haven't had an invasion. You are right to be concerned about the birds and the Raid. A Google search might turn up some information.

Penny - The infestation of the caterpillars is awful. Will your trees recover or are they a write off? Check out Cheryl's natural pest products.
