It is another day which has helped the planting going on here. Yesterday the landscaper added another 30 perennials into the front areas. I think he is finally done except to put in a Jackmani clematis in front of the garage window. I would have liked to use the one from my old yard but we didn't want to contaminate anything here and I do have slugs at the old house and crabgrass which is hard to remove from perennial shrubs Anything I am not happy with can be used in the back when we work on that area next summer. In the meantime I've planted 5 super large containers with annuals but still need more things in them. Everything looks so miniscule now but hope they grow into a lovely display. Cheryl I wanted to ask you what the chocolate coloured ferny looking plant was next to the porch railing in the photos of the girls you posted a number of days ago. It looks gorgeous where you have planted it. I would like one if it is hardy enough for Zone 2 or 3. I ended up putting in a Pampas grass for height and contrast in front of some big evergreens. Here it is only an annual, but that is a good thing because it has been banned as a noxious weed in Hawaii and New Zealand ![]() The landscaper rolled his eyes a bit but we'll see what it looks like at the end of the summer.

CROW - Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, Inc.E8 UPDATE: E8 continues to be bright, alert, responsive and using the right leg in a normal fashion. The eaglet is being offered whole prey items such as mice and chicks but isn't eating them on its own and currently requires assisted feedings of fish fillets. E8 continues to gain weight and currently weighs a little over 8 lb. The next update will be this Tuesday when E8 is scheduled for radiographs (x-rays) and blood work. We will also be answering some of your questions next week regarding leg banding and how to identify E8's gender. Below is a video of E8 receiving wound care earlier this week. Again, thank you for your continued support and donations. https://youtu.be/WGFeC5-WhNc |

Penny - Thanks for you comments about eagleland and Maya's birthday. I kept singing Happy Birthday to her and she looked at me like I was nuts. We have had lots of rain and very humid weather. Today looks a bit better but rain again tomorrow. Yesterday I made a small herb garden which I keep on the front terrace off the kitchen. I planted dill, basil, parsley and chives. Alan planted a few impatiens in the back patio area. I still need a lilac bush to fill in an empty spot. If at all possible, post a photo of your front garden, it sounds beautiful. |

Allan took some photos yesterday but they really don't convey the whole effect of the front. Maybe I should wait until the plants are blooming before posting a Your photos with your sister and Alan were so good...I can't believe Margot is 70!!! What are the two of you doing to look so young? It has to be more than "it's in the genes" IMNTK I need to make a herb garden too. Watch out for the chives...they took over a whole section of the garden at my old house!!! One of the shrubs we planted yesterday is a dwarf Korean lilac. It has pink blooms and a heavy fragrance. We put it under the right side front window with a white mock orange. The left side has strawberry sundae hydrangeas with a mock orange. We had to leave an area big enough for the bobcat to get through to the back when we do the landscaping next year so there is a lot of room on that side for more plants next year. I'm worried about the caterpillars and stomp every one I see in the front. We have not been able to spray because it has been every day for the past week I would hate to see a lot of these young plants eaten up by the hungry hordes ![]() |

Good afternoon, peeps. We had an excursion this morning, sad for me but it needed to be done. We took my 2000 Grand Am to the junkyard. I hated to part with my millennium car but it was close to having the undercarriage rust through. It would have cost too much to repair. I cried at leaving it. It was a good car and still looked nice on the exterior and interior and had less than 90,000 km on it. We're experimenting with living with just one car for now instead of buying a new one for me. I hardly ever go anywhere so I really don't need my own car. So it was difficult in several ways to give up my car.Penny, that was a Japanese maple tree if you meant the chocolately-coloured plant by the post. The porch is up three steps so it was taller than you would think from the pictures. The leaves are burgundy but they do appear brownish in the pictures. I think that must be the leaves you meant. Personally I would get the cut-leaf variety rather than that one. The leaves look more delicate on the cut-leaf and the entire bush looks more airy. I keep hoping this one will die as it is about 25 years old and I want one of the other ones. Robert doesn't agree. If this isn't the tree you were talking about please just ask again. Also, please share some pictures of your landscaping and pots when you are happy with how things have filled in.Carole, thanks for the E8 update. I hope his leg continues to gain strength so he can feed himself. I should have commented that Margot certainly doesn't look like she turned 70, wow. Kath, have fun during the visit with Bob's son. Well done for getting help with the gardener fellow for yard clean-up, especially with you and Bob having back problems. Hello to everyone else, I hope you are having a good day, too.

G'day Peeps, my sunny Sunday. Brian and Madelyn cancelled, the latter being sick with the flu. Next weekend. I had already started today's luncheon meal: Southern fried chicken, okra, chard and baked potato wedges. Also did a cheesecake. Bob is happy. Yesterday was our coldest day so far this year. It will get colder, but its been a long time late coming with unseasonably warm weather. Looking forward to seeing your photos Penny. Everyone have a nice weekend. Mine has been 'my own' so far! |
