Chiquita - I'm waiting to hear what model the Porsche is, I have no idea, but it is a beautiful "Boy Toy" rofl

Just found out, Carrera S4Posted Image

Ozzie - Unfortunately the sheets are synthetic. I am so fed up with my old sheets that cost a fortune (Egyptian Cotton or a high thread count), most of the time they need a pressing and the one thing I don't like is ironing. The new ones are so soft and silky and also light for the summer.

The Japanese mod art is fascinating, "Art in Motion".

is it the 18th already!? I'm behind while being away with my scouts ...

some of you saw and know - gary became quite ill while in Canada and we had a bit of a shock at the medical care system :(

The nurses and drs were terrific - very kind and caring both nights that we spent at the ER in Niagara
but how they do the job and the setting - wow - like stepping back 30+ years in time!

Gary apparently had a gastro bug and with our traveling schedule and no quick access to broth and juices AND him keeping it quiet hoping it would pass ..... well, he became very ill at the hotel friday night so off to the ER - after an hour of waiting, suddenly he gets up, hands me his glasses and attempts to walk across the room (we find out later he wanted a bathroom) but he was zig zagging and wobbly - I tried to get to him but he didn't answer me and suddenly he just fell over hitting his face on the floor - out cold!

No one in the room moved - unbelievable - I screamed his name and yelled for help - the registrar called a code and medical people came from everywhere! They got him settled and revived in about 10 mins. He was very confused - he remembered the glasses but nothing else. Turns out he was extremely dehydrated from the gastro and once stabilized they sent us on our way (never treating or checking the gastro - just hydration and checking his wounds from the fall)

The troop headed for NY on saturday morning but gary & I stayed behind in Niagara to sleep and give him a little time. He was good thru the day - ate a little. I went out at dinner to find some soup, etc. - got a text - headed back and he was very sick again. I threw everything in the car and him - off to ER again. The vomiting began. At 3 am he was stable so I threw him in the car and headed for the border. We stayed in rochester for a few hours to sleep and then home we headed on Sunday - it was a long, slow drive as he had to stop constantly! We went straight to ER here on Long Island. FINALLY he seemed to be improving a bit and the dr there felt he now was on the down side of the bug.

Finally home to rest - saw dr yesterday - gary is doing real well - even went to work today (tues) - he sees the dentist tonight to have jaw checked out from the fall. He has big bruise on chin and black eye. Hit his shoulder but x-ray was clean

We had to pay up front for both ER's in Canada but supposedly we can request reimbursement from our insurance - we'll see!

But he's ok - none the worse for the face plant!

just glad to be home - not planning to visit canada ever again (sorry Cheryl & Carole) ;)

Deb - So happy to hear that Gary is on the mend and the both of you are home and safe. Hope his dentist visit turns out to be nothing but a bruise. :X:

Sorry to hear you won't visit Canada again, one bad experience shouldn't keep you away from our beautiful country.

Our hospital systems here are government controlled and not private institutions like they are in the USA. We've had bad experiences in Florida hospitals as they are so frightened about mal-practice suits, that they put you through so many unnecessary tests and it's not uncommon to run up a bill of $30,000 +. I took my girlfriend to an ER for a mere bladder infection, all she wanted was an antibiotic, but they wanted to keep her there for a few days, do an MRI, Cat-Scan, cystoscope and a zillion other tests which would cost a fortune. We walked out and went to a walk-in clinic where she got her antibiotic and it worked fine. Even though Alan and I have private insurance and on top of it take out special health travel insurance when we went to Florida, we stayed home this year because the insurance costs were exorbitant because of Alan's pacemaker. Oh well, it's not going to stop us from traveling to the US as we love it.

You were also in a small city, the hospitals in Toronto and major cities are so sophisticated and well run most of the time.

I'm just happy that you are back home and Gary is improving.

Hugs to the both of you :Hugs: (((GH)))

JK about Canada - I'm sure we'll make our way north at some point in the future, once again!

The nurses and drs were great - the hospital was super, super clean! Apparently we have coverage but we have to file the claim - which I guess I get.
But you never dream you will get sick and if it happens - who needs surprises on top of it.
The one good thing is they charged us one fee that covered everything - it wasn't itemized:
we didn't have to pay separate for meds they gave him
didn't have to pay for x-ray
didn't have to pay for the fluids
didn't have to pay for ekg and blood tests and urine tests

The ER fee was all inclusive (which we didn't know until we went to pay) so instead of $5,000 it was $900 - woo hoo ( well maybe hoo cause we still had to pay lol)

But as you are sitting there then you start to think what if they need extensive testing - what if they have to admit him ..... eek!

Our insurance company advised next time to look into travel insurance - have no clue cost. One of our scout moms is a travel agent so I'm gonna ask her! Will be a bit smarter traveling out of country next time for sure!

Honestly - we should have left Sat AM when we left the hospital the first time - traveled a while with our scout families and then stop to rest - continuing on later. Then our insurance would have addressed everything BUT after visit 1, I thought he was doing better.....

Deb - Our Private Health Insurance covers medical, dental and optical, private hospital room as well as home care, etc. if and when you need it. The best thing about it is that it covers us for 30 days when out of the country. So, when we went to Florida for 3 months, we only had to pay for 2 months and this way I don't have to get extra insurance if we decide to go to NY for 2 weeks or so, or anywhere else if we so choose.

My BIL was hospitalized in Sarasota, Florida as he has a heart condition and wasn't feeling well. The hospital was great, got in touch with his home cardiologist, got all his records and discussed the treatment to give him so he could then drive home, which takes 3 days or so. If there is a very serious issue, the Canadian insurance will pay for a Medical Jet to fly you home as the cost is cheaper than being treated in the US.

Do look into travel health insurance, it sure comes in handy if anything arises.

Your insurance will definitely reimburse you for the money spent in ER, or at least pay 80%. :X:

thanks carole for the info - good to know
getting a little education via Gary's illness ;)
we'll be better prepared next time ....

the insurance company told us that probably 80% of persons insured in US don't have coverage outside US
it's usually only larger companies or companies with offices outside the US or who have employees who travel a lot out of US
that get that coverage
ruh roh - but it looks like we have it - whew - hoping we do anyway!

G'day Peeps, my sunny Wedneday. I have a busy work day today. At 3pm yesterday, our Prime Minister announced massive changes to the temporary visa program. At 5.20pm the Dept of Immigration released the 'fine print' with 200 occupations taken off the approved occupations list! I had been on the phones till 8pm dealing with upset clients. I too was really annoyed at the secrecy for changes. A lot of dreams were shattered yesterday. Keep in mind, this visa is a pathway to permanent residency, based on Skilled Applicants, not refugees, criminals or unlawfuls. Anyway, I'm busy!

Debbie, I always get o/s health insurance. A lot of credit card companies offer it and you can get 'reward' points to purchase. Can be expensive. But not as expensive as hospital bills, even of $900! I am fortunate that my work industry membership covers me and Bob automatically. Otherwise, I'd be purchasing coverage.
Glad to hear Gary is better!

April and her baby's web cam was taken down.

Nice to see you here Carol.

The chook forgot the rinse! rofl

Too bad about the synthetics Carole. I have found them to make me sweat too much, they dont seem to 'breath' like cotton. I dont mind the wrinkles! ;)

Everyone have a nice evening.

just found out that my nephew who is trying to get into the Naval Academy, has been invited to ride on a ship in the parade into NYC for Fleet Week
looks like they are going to fly him to Philly and then get him to Camden - he'll go to the ship from there with the unit
he'll be in the parade of ships and then we'll get him on 5/24 when they dock
he'll stay with us a couple of days and then he'll fly back to Ohio with us on 5/27
his dad is air force reserve so we'll all be staying on base at Wright Pat!!!
then up to my sister's for her sons graduation party

oh boy what fun this will be!
can't wait!

ok gotta run
hope all well
have a nice evening
