Whooper Update by Heather Ray: Angry Bird! (short one so this is the entire post) Doug Pellerin captured this fantastic photo last week, which shows female whooping crane number 9-03 defending her nest against this Sandhill crane intruder.

Besides the gary incident - we had a great time and great weather - did I say that before? I'm so lost - hopefully by the end of today I'm back in the swing of things..... turns out almost all of our families/scouts on the trip had never been to Niagara I thought everyone goes at some time .....We rode the Mist boat which was quite fun (and wet) It's a 7-8 hour drive to get to Niagara We then headed to hotel after boat - dinner, night viewing of fall and some swimming Thurs we did the Behind the Falls which was quite fun and they have placards up in the hallways with fun facts! The boys did not know that people actually went over the falls in barrels and whatever! Headed to Toronto and visited the Aquarium (which is always pretty cool) Did Jays game - headed to hotel Fri we visited the Science Museum which is awesome Back downtown to Hockey Hall of Fame Then on to Niagara for a "quiet" evening and swimming The Troop went home Saturday Gary and I made it home Sunday ![]() Everything was fun - all the places we visited - everyone was so very nice and helpful Toronto is just such a fun place - if you've never been - go!!! Wish we had more time ... I think one of our families on the trip will be going back this summer for an extended vacation! yay |

Hello, Deb. How is Gary doing today? I hope he is on the mend completely and the dentist check yesterday found no problems. Toronto is a fun city with plenty of activities for families. We've been to them all, both with our own boys and with class field trips. We always have out-of-country travel insurance, both with our private plan as well as extra coverage through a credit card. Since Matthew travels back and forth to Washington to see his GF we got him travel insurance coverage through CAA (AAA for you). He thought he wouldn't need it, that he was invincible, but for our own peace of mind we got it for him. Thank goodness we did because he fell while out for a run and sliced his knee open in Washington. The hospital did all kinds of tests for bone damage, etc. so it would have cost him a fortune if he hadn't had the insurance. As you know, our Allison is an ER nurse here. She told us that the doctors insist that out-of-country visitors to our ER departments pay up front. Otherwise what happens is that they leave Canada never to pay their bills and the Canadian taxpayers are left with the cost. Robert and I have always had excellent care at our hospitals whenever we have needed them. Niagara Falls must have a small hospital since it is not a large city. I do hope you reconsider and return to Canada some day. The most important part is that Gary is improving. That was an awful virus. To me it sounds like the Norwalk virus which is a really miserable one. |

Jill, that chicken picture cracked me up! Kath, what a nightmare with the changes to the temporary visa program and being a surprise like that. Please don't wear yourself out trying to help everybody else. From reading the article it looks like April's slightly twisted ankle is improving.Carole, lovely photo of baby giraffe meeting his Daddy-O. Carol, good luck with getting all your paperwork filled in and submitted.

EVERYONE - it was a winkie on the not visiting canada again - I was only KIDDING !! We enjoyed our visit - everyone was super nice - it was lots of fun! The shock of seeing gary do a face plant - being at an ER 3 times in 3 nights wasn't on the agendaBUT IT was a winkie face that I posted to the comment ![]() He is doing fine - he is on a soft diet - hoping to progress later today/tomorrow to more normal foods! He started getting sick Wed night and it lasted into Monday but seems to have now moved on (and hopefully not to me) You are right Cheryl - people would never pay if you didn't get it then - sad but true! They said we had to pay but the 2nd night the lady looked a bit shocked when I gave her the credit card - like she wasn't expecting us to pay ??? But we did - it's all filed with our insurance now - so we wait! Like I said lesson learned - something can happen to anyone so you should be prepared! We'll definitely be getting insurance from now on for travels out of US

Ozzie - What a mess with the visa program, don't stress yourself out, just take one case at a time Deb - So happy that things are almost back to normal with Gary. I'm thrilled you liked Toronto, so much to do and see. In the summer they have boat tours in the harbour and to Toronto Island, so much to see and do on the waterfront street, Queen's Quay. Cheryl - That whooper sure means business, no fooling around with her! Your table looks beautiful, love your china settings, Easter napkins and that cake is gorgeous. Your family is so beautiful |

Good Morning... Cheryl...Lovely Easter table setting. The table setting is my favorite part of Thanksgiving. I usually do my Thanksgiving table setting about two weeks ahead of the day just for my enjoyment. I'm lucky to have many pieces from my grandmother and great-grandmother which I like to use. Deb...So glad to hear Gary is improving and that you are home safely. GD broke her arm on some play equipment while she was on vacation in Paris with her family when she was 12. DD said everyone was wonderful...didn't have to pay up front. Carole...That's a beautiful Porsche!!! Ellie and Roo are such clever names for the eagles...looks like they have two healthy babies this time. Wonder how long before a name is picked for the new giraffe? Also, when will April and her son have some time outside? Edited by chiquita, Apr 20 2017, 06:18 AM.

G'day Peeps, my Thursday. Sunny with fleeting low clouds. I am wearing shorts~! Debbie, what a great opportunity for your nephew~!! When is the fleet parade? When will he know if he has been accepted in the college? Good to hear that Gary has improved. I bet he lost weight, and not the way to do it, eh! Cheryl! Your table is beautiful. The cake is gorgeous! Did you make it? Someone forgot the flash for the family photo though. Always, ALWAYS use flash when doing people if there is light in the background. Funny about the WC defending her nest! Whoa! And speaking of CATS (Jill, thanks for posting all the entertainment up!), every morning (unless raining) Snowy & I go out into the garden for at least an hour. He loves it. Today he 'discovered' the fountain. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuQp2m4Ise0 |
