Kris, I haven't read the book yet but it is on my list. I have a file of books I want to read. It sounds like a really good one! Right now I am halfway through re-reading "Voyager" in preparation for the new "Outlander" season.

Jill, that orange flower is incredibly bright and it has such a unique shape. :clk: :)^

Unusually for me I have had a huge burst of energy the past 4 days and have done some extra chores around the house, washing the windows inside and out and washing and ironing various sheers and lace curtains. The weather has cooled off a bit so I guess it's easier to do stuff. I also have to go and get my gel nails filled today. I don't like it when they get long. I can't decide what colour to get, though.

Have a good day, everyone. I'll try to check in later.

Good morning, Cheryl. I wish I would get a burst of energy! So much needs to be done around my house and I just don't feel like doing it.

Thanks for the elephant photos. They were beautiful, and amazing. Such interesting animals. I like seeing them in the zoo, but always feel sorry for them, too.

Two more weeks, and we will be on vacation. My husband has a conference in Chicago, so we will be starting there. We will pick up a couple boxes of clothes our daughter left with a friend when she moved, and will decide if we are going to mail them or if we can check them as baggage. Second stop will be NYC to see her. I was hoping she (actually they, her boyfriend moved there with her) would have gotten an apartment by now, but they are just living in a temporary one for at least a month. Her BF hasn't found a job yet, and without him having an income also, they can't qualify for an apartment. Hopefully he will get something soon. Chicago and NYC wouldn't really be my choices of places to go on vacation, but often the things your kids do influence what you do.

Hope you all have a great day!

Hi Linda. I've never been to Chicago (except the huge airport :P ) or NYC. I'm sure your daughter and BF will have lots of ideas for things to do, and I'm sure you have a wish list as well. Where would you go as your first choice? I would go back to Paris and just stay there for a week or so. My niece is moving and she is doing the same thing - having someone else either bring or mail some of her clothes. Best of luck to the BF for getting a job so that they can get an apartment to call home. The three elephants at the Toronto zoo were moved to a sanctuary, I think in California. Maybe you'll have some pictures to share when you get home.

We haven't had any luck convincing my mother to move to an apartment closer to her family. My sister and I are worn out with the stress - and I am worn out from supporting my sister as well because she gets more upset than I do.

Carole, I've missed your lovely morning graphics the past few days. I hope you've been happy weekending as you'd planned. After I had logged off and put the laptop away last night it hit me that I hadn't included comments to you that I intended to make. :( I hope your tummy probs have eased, and with Alan's good report tensions should be eased a bit. :Hugs: Ed suffers severe inflammatory bowel disease (among multiple other things) and he always has a bad reaction to Chinese Food. It grew slowly and now he can't eat it at all. It can be so hard to pinpoint what the cause of a reaction could be. He's found that the dyes in the capsules of some prescription meds he needs give him asthma attacks! He has to always request the non-colored version of the med.

Cheryl, I can so commiserate with your angst over having to deal with a parent who wants to live alone but clearly isn't able to. I did my time in Hell with it. My heart goes out to you and your sister having to convince her that her best interests are to move to a place where she can have the best round the clock care. In loving her it's what you want for her.

I only learned of the stage life and accolades of "The Curious Incident..." through a "Travel Zoo" email I get for Los Angeles area things. They were promoting a deal on tickets to the Ahmanson Theater's production of it in L.A. next month.

Linda, nice to hear from you. :) "Kids!" What they put us through, no matter how old they get! :hair: I hope you have a wonderful visit with your DD and are assured she has a plan to take NYC by storm. :P I've never been there but it seems a challenging place to live.

I have no idea how my daughter came to be so fond of large cities. She went to college in Chicago, and I had never been there until then. I have never been to NYC, simply because I haven't had the desire. I know when you are young your perspective is different, and maybe it seems exciting and fun. Her commitment with Teach for America is two years, and she says she will move back in this direction after that. I hope she does. For now, she and the boyfriend are living in a long-term Airbnb. He has not yet found work, and they will not be able to qualify for rent in a decent place until he does. Hopefully he will find something soon!

We have never been to Europe, even though my BIL has lived in France for at least 25 years. They used to have an apartment in Paris, but now live in a little village about an hour and a half outside of there. He and his wife are self-employed as translators, and with computers, they can work almost everywhere. I would like to go someday, but I think about the political climate of of the world, and the terrorists, and it just doesn't appeal to me right now. I know that is wrong but it is what it is.

I am so sorry about the problems you are having with your mom. Does your mom wear a panic button? We had one for my mom, but she refused to wear it and give us even that little bit of peace of mind. It has got to be so difficult to lose your independence and be forced to give up things you love, but it seems that is the price you pay for living a long life. Neither one of my parents had to care for elderly parents, and if they had - especially my mom - I think they would have tried to make it easier on me. I know I will be doing some things so that it won't be so hard on my daughter.

Kris, I think of you and Ed often, and hope for a miracle. I was happy that you got to go visit Lori in Califormia, and hope that one day you will be able to return there.
