I hope all is well with everyone. Friday I was away on the retirement residence tour with my Mom, her friend Helen, and my sister. Yesterday I was too tired to do much of anything. We watched the movie about the "Miracle on the Hudson" called "Sully" with Tom Hanks. That's all I did except clean the family room.

On Friday we had a delicious lunch at the retirement place and then a tour. I was right about my Mom's friend. She kind-of pretended she was interested just to support my Mom and get her to go for a visit. I don't think otherwise that my mother ever would have come for a tour. We are not encouraged at this point but who knows. My BIL made up a fantastic spreadsheet of costs to owning her house now (taxes, heat, lawn care, etc.), the approximate value of her home if sold, the costs of just having an apartment there at the retirement place, and the costs of adding care such as meals or nursing assistance. My Mom could have figured it all out on her own but it was helpful to have it all there on paper. They went over it all with my mother even though they were exhausted from all the driving and the tour. Helen will continue to put in positive comments whenever she sees an opening but Mom just isn't ready to move yet, unfortunately. She did like the two-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen and a washer and dryer in a separate closet, as well as a walk-in closet. We thought maybe she'd only want a one-bedroom. At the end of the tour the staff person asked her if she'd like to put down a refundable deposit and put her name on the list but she wasn't ready to do that. My sister already put her name on the list and the staff person knew that - she was just trying to get Mom to do it on her own.

Good Morning...A bit cloudy this morning but should clear around noon.

Everyone is sure geared up for the eclipse tomorrow. My daughter and her husband have gone to Nashville for the big event and this morning I got a nice photo of our granddaughter and BF taking off from the San Francisco area on a whirlwind jaunt to a small town in Idaho, complete with camping gear...oh, to be young and adventursome again.

Vegetable garden is winding down...only one pepper left to pick. Anxious to get the bed ready for some winter lettuce.

Hello peeps :}^ Happy Sunday to all!

Cheryl
- At least your Mom had one foot in the door and it gives her something to think about. Helen will probably have more of an impact on her than your
family will. The spreadsheet will show her what her assets and expenses will be, great idea from your BIL. :)^

Glad that lunch was delicious, that's a bonus. Hope your Mom reconsiders and decides to move there. :X:

Sunday Greetings Everyone. :}^

I was out of commission this week with multiple things to deal with. :hair: One being legal docs relating to my Mother's death that I received after the deadline :8O: that had to be "notarized" and returned to the L.A. County Court. :hair: Phone calls ensued and I obtained what passes for notarization in the UK, which the court rep said they'd accept. Then express mailed them with tracking back to the court, which had given me an extension on the deadline, since they'd mailed it late and Lori hadn't retrieved it from my PO Box in a timely manner to forward to me. :(

Cheryl, commiserations on your angst dealing with your Mother. :Hugs: It sounds like she'll eventually come around to the apartment idea but doesn't feel ready yet. Hopefully she'll be considering it and thinking about the possibilities.

Ed's been such a grumpy Bear with his apparently broken foot bone pain, added to all his other physical ills, that I've imagined being alone in a nice quiet apartment myself. :<::

Carole, I can so relate to Alan's fondness for mashed potatoes mixed with green peas. Since early childhood Holiday dinners I always mixed them together too.

I've missed so many days that I apologize for not being up to speed on events. It's just "hit and miss" with comments I remember.

Our House Martins are getting closer to fledging, after which they'll migrate to North Africa for the Winter. There's no way to get a decent pic of them under the eaves but this Youtube video shows how cute they are peeking out of the nest just like we've been seeing above our bedroom window. They will gather by the thousands to prep for migration. Their sweet vocalizations are so characteristic of Summer sounds here.

The Eclipse tomorrow will be an amazing event for those in the path of Totality! In 1999 Ed and I traveled to England to experience the one there on August 11. Even though the clouds obscured most of the moments of totality there were many incredible effects to be seen. I videotaped a cluster of "Eclipse Lights", or atmospheric plasma, during the peak of totality that appeared above a group of ancient tumuli on the tip of Cornwall where the "Michael and Mary Lines" (Earth's magnetic Ley Lines) converge into the sea. We have a report on our website about it and Ed has a video to upload to Youtube one of these days of the memorable moments, that he's been finessing. The Total Eclipse over Mexico City in 1991 caused a 80% eclipse in Los Angeles that I photographed and had a group of friends gathered to experience. We had the glasses and Camera Obscura projections but even at 80% the dimming of light was only as if light clouds were passing in front of the Sun. Effects could be seen in the light and shadows cast where the light of the eclipsed Sun appeared like multiple crescents cascading onto the ground. I have pics but know not exactly where they are now. My dear friend and long since ex SO is traveling to Nashville with friends to experience it tomorrow. A Total Solar Eclipse is an experience of a lifetime! <3

We have been too disorganized and the viewing glasses are all sold out in our area. :*: :(

My brother and his wife drove from Oakville (near Toronto) to either North or South Carolina to view the eclipse. Her sister lives directly in the path of the full eclipse so they don't even have to find a hotel. Apparently there is a house full of people all set and excited for the eclipse tomorrow.
