Hello, everybody! Photo by my brother, Richard, taken in South Carolina yesterday. He wrote that they drove 1200 miles for a 'possible' (depending on the weather) once in a lifetime experience. "Mission accomplished. Feeling awed and grateful today." I enjoyed all the news reports and interviews with those in the path of the full eclipse. Carole, there's one coming our way in about seven years. I hope to be here to see it. |

The whooper chicks were all lined up eating berries a couple of days ago.

Cheryl, what a magnificent pic of the eclipse your DB, Richard took! And how fortunate he had clear skies after such a long journey to be there to experience it. I watched TV coverage and felt the excitement vicariously. Ed and I traveled to the UK from SoCal in 1999 to witness the August 11 eclipse that year, which was only Total in the UK over the tip of Cornwall. Ed had a dear elderly lady friend who lived in Looe, Cornwall in the path of Totality where we went to see it. She had a Spiritual Centre called Beachways Light Centre. Unfortunately the clouds didn't cooperate, though at times we had glimpses of the eclipsing Sun through the clouds. Other eclipse effects like the rapidly moving shadow that races over the land as Totality begins, and the 360 degree Sunset, were obvious. There were many eclipse effects to experience despite the changing cloud cover. Some we photographed and have a page on our website describing our experience. It was truly amazing! Ed has a video almost ready to post on our Youtube channel documenting it. One of those projects that's always been on the back burner that he's been trying to get finished. His health has such a terrible effect on his ability to write and work on his projects, with so many left to try to finish. This is a Reuters photo of Stonehenge at the peak of Totality in 1999. It was just beyond the path of Totality and shows how just a hundred miles can make the difference. We're about a half an hour from Stonehenge where we live now. I had a "Close Encounters-like" urge to be in Mexico City for the 1991 eclipse, after being there in 1989, but couldn't manage it. There was an historical mass sighting of "UFOs" during Totality then which had supposedly been prophesied, and friends of ours produced several videos documentaries documenting it.

Cheryl - What an awesome photo of the eclipse Please congratulate Richard on his amazing photographic skills, I'm sure the trip was well worth it.I heard on the news that the eclipse coming in 7 years will do a loop right up to the Hamilton area. Unfortunately I missed yesterday's, but it's a good thing, we didn't have the proper glasses to see it. Love the whooper photo, "Chicks at the Buffet"

Jill, not to be a "spoiler" but, is Cheryl okay with your "hot-linking" her images on CHIL? Just asking...

To be fair, I'd like it noted that only happened after I brought attention to the situation, knowing how "hot inking" works and drains its users of bandwidth. No culpability implied, just lack of knowledge of the way it works.
