Jill, what a cute picture yesterday, "Everyone smiles in the same language." Do you have a vintage car event for the long weekend? Carole, you are the champion dog babysitter extraordinaire. Kath, you had such a memorable Italian holiday with another one to look forward to and plan for. Thank you once more for taking the time to post all your lovely trip photos. I enjoyed them all. Carole, such sad news for the Decorah North nest. I knew about the black flies driving the whooping cranes off their nests and causing the loss of the eggs. I didn't know it could happen to the eaglets. Poor little chicks, very sad indeed. While out walking the dogs yesterday a neighbour came across the street to ask us about 'Wookie' and his constant barking. I told him about Wookie getting loose a few days ago, and that the barking at 7 am is annoying. He and his wife work frequently from home and do conference calls and hire employees with phone interviews. They live across the street from Wookie's house. Recently they've had several clients say to them while on the phone, "I didn't know you had a dog." "We don't." Short story is that he and his neighbour (who lives next door to Wookie) are going over there today to have a talk with the owners. They've had enough. Wookie's house is 5 houses away from ours. We have a really quiet neighbourhood and the dog isn't being walked for exercise (and to wear out his energy) or corrected regarding the barking.I'm trying to get my gardening done bit by bit. I like the new chairs on our deck but I haven't had a chance to sit out there, what with company here or the weather (cloudy with rain coming today). Thanks for your comments about Laurel with her great- grandfather. I'll pass the compliments on to Howard. Thank you Carole, Kath and Linda for thinking of Wynn especially. Enjoy your day, everyone. We are heading out soon to attend an unveiling of Alan's old friend who passed away at the end of last year. It will be followed by a lunch back at their house. "In Jewish culture, it's common for families to have a ceremony around viewing the headstone at the cemetery for the first time, called a "headstone unveiling." Though a headstone unveiling is traditional, it's not a religious obligation." |

Carole...Although we are not Jewish, ever since my mother worked for may Jewish doctors I have been interested in the Jewish culture, picking up little bits of info now and then. I enjoyed hearing about the ceremony around the headstone at the cemetery. The more I learn I realize how much I like these bits of history. We had a dear Jewish friend who lost his wife many years ago...so many at her funeral. Then we all went directly to the gravesite and each person put a little dirt in the grave...I always thought this was a wonderful tribute. So many nice traditions. |

Another tradition is leaving a small rock or pebble on the headstone to say that you visited the departed and are thinking about him/her. |

G'day Peeps, my cool, cloudy Monday. I have some work to do today and sneezing a lot. Darn it! Yesterday we had visitors from Bob's side the family tree. He is part of the 'Mary Wade' family history (2nd fleet, 1st female convicts to Australia) and has over 400 members/relations. Anyway, David stopped by to discuss a family get together. Now that will be HUGE. His wife is an early childcare teacher. We had a long talk about what she actually does as a teacher. I was astounded to learn all the 'teaching' that is done at a young age and what they look for (the latter I knew about). Eg, not sitting up a child with pillows until they can actually sit up themselves. In the name of of self development. Anyway it was interesting and they enjoyed the cookies I baked Carole, that is so sad about the D.N. chicks. OMG, if the snow doesnt get them, the flies will. Ugh. We have very close Jewish friends, Peter & Lilly, they gave us a prayer/blessing welcome for our front door. I have it hanging up at the entry. I too find the Jewish faith interesting, very family oriented and strong. Those Newfies are gonna be HUGE! Cute names! Cheryl, I love hearing about your pups... and your family! Chiquita, in the headlines in Sydney this morning. Ooppps.!! http://www.news.com.au/travel/san-diego-zoo-uses-maori-dancers-to-open-australian-exhibit/news-story/496bb649bba3248d89fd020eff80becb |
