Eaglepedia Revisited March 1, 2007 Not only do the bald eagle chicks grow rapidly, but so does their appetite! Large nestlings can consume nearly as much food as adults - around 2 pounds of flesh in a single meal. At weeks 6/7, the eaglets will begin to feed themselves. They push and shove each other, they will grab chunks of food from their parents and gobble them down before it can be stolen away by a sibling, then beg for more! Parents at this point, will simply drop off the food every 3-4 hours during daylight hours and let the eaglets in the nest sort it out on their own. This laissez-faire method of feeding may continue to the day that the eaglets leave the nest and, in some instances, even after the youngsters have ostensibly set out on their own. it has been great fun watching the TH pair the last few days (I can only really watch 1 cam at work )stealing food - standing and looking/not so much sleeping - flapping and hopping - mantling - absolutely wonderful to be able to see their development - can't wait for today - so what's the WE pair doing - I only get peeks ..... =============================================== Don't miss out - (copying here FYI)Many of the forum members and visitors, tend to follow one particular nest more than the others or like me at work - sometimes only have an opportunity to observe one during the day, etc. If you aren't familiar with or haven't recently saved the links to the other nests we can observe online and follow, you can go to IWS Eagle Forum or IWS.org for the most recent links: IWS Eagle Forum - Cam Link Page From time to time, Dr. Sharpe may upgrade or have to change a link (although not recently) and these are the two sights that would have the most current links. Both nests have a running live feed on UStream or as the case may be, they also have a slo motion feed that refreshes every 5 seconds. Thanks all! |

Just a gentle reminder that forum protocols do not permit us to discuss the Fundraiser in the CHIL forum. We would be happy to answer any questions here at the IWS Eagle Forum. |

Good morning! Great post today for your presentation, Deb. I like the little panels of pictures. The photos of A-40 and A-11 are ones that I've never seen before. Wish we could see more portraits like that where the cameras are set up remotely. They always turn out so well. Well done! Jill, hope you and everyone in the fire area are safe today. Deb, the "Feed Me" sign on the eagle mascot is so funny. Going for a massage in awhile. Have a good (and safe) day, everyone. |

Redneck Bank Loan Never underestimate an Alabama Redneck. A Redneck from Pohickey, Alabama walked into a bank in New York City and asked for the loan officer. He told the loan officer that he was going to Paris on an internationalredneck festival for two weeks and needed to borrow $5,000 and that he was not a depositor of the bank. The bank officer told him that the bank would need some form of security for the loan, so the Redneck handed over the keys to a new Ferrari. The car was parked on the street in front of the bank. The Redneck produced the title and everything checked out. The loan officer agreed to hold the car as collateral for the loan and apologized for having to charge 12% interest. Later, the bank's president and its officers all enjoyed a good laugh at the Redneck from the south for using a $250,000 Ferrari as collateral for a $5,000 loan. An employee of the bank then drove the Ferrari into the bank's private underground garage and parked it. Two weeks later, the Redneck returned, repaid the $5,000 and the interest of $23.07. The loan officer said, 'Sir, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out on Dunn & Bradstreet and found that you are a highly sophisticated investor and multimillionaire with real estate and financial interests all over the world. What puzzles us is, why would you bother to borrow $5,000?' The good 'ole Alabama boy replied, 'Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $23.07 and expect it to be there when I return?' His name was BUBBA... |
