We were able to move back home today! So, I have unloaded the work truck, but not unpacking yet. And am leaving a lot in our truck until tomorrow as we wait to see if the fire will be more under control. Good to be home but am worn out from unloading the truck! :P

Very wild time lapse video..... First day, from 6:00pm to 9:30PM. Keep in mind, this fire then went crazy for 2 more days, advancing another 7 miles toward the camera!!!

Some photos re:fire here from my friend Scott(all clickables)-

Wow Jill, those pix tell it all, don't they? I can't get over how close the fire has come to the town......how incredibly scary. Fortunately, Sara has posted and we know that she is fine. :Hugs:

Deb, the other day I rescued a baby Scrub Jay and returned it to it's nest. I was at school and I had to wait for one of the maintenance men to get a ladder for me. In the mean time, I held this baby in my hands and fantasized about how it would feel to be holding a Bald Eagle chicklet instead. ~Sigh~ :haha: :haha: :haha:

That's what I figured too........the first time I put the baby in the nest, he got booted out within an hour. I found a small box in my friend's classroom, and I lined the bottom with tissue, then completely covered it with grass. I put baby SJ in the box and put the box beneath a canopy of plants by the classroom window. I had decided rather than let it die being vulnerable and exposed, I would take it to one of the nature centers in Sacramento.

But once the school day ended, I thought that I would try one more time to return the baby to the nest. This time I rearranged the other two babies before putting the third one back in the nest (the nest was basically too small for the three of them). Mom and Dad SJ were flitting nearby while I was doing this, and I was worried that baby SJ was going to get the boot again.

However, as soon as I stepped away from the nest, both of the SJ's returned and Mom began feeding all three chicks. The next morning I was dreading checking the nest to see if the runaway had survived the night in the nest..........he had. All three fuzz heads were bobbing around, and even three days later all seems to be fine.

I was surprised by the reaction I had to actually be holding this baby in my hands. It occurred to me that this was truly a privilege, and that I was truly blessed.

G'day Peeps, my Mother's Day today, rainy and cool. Staying in bed till noon reading my book (Ken Follett) and snugged by two purring kitties... Out to dinner later with the family.

Penny, is that a corella in your signature? Did I tell you about the corella pet bird I met when I bought an ebay gas heater!? 'Sam' was very interested in me, but I was told not to touch him (I wouldnt have dared anyway). The owner told me that Corellas are the LOUDEST parrot of the bunch and I got a couple of excellent examples from Sam (ouch! my ears)

Very scary about the fires, to come right into a well populated area with plenty of defense resources and still have damage like that! glad you and your property are safe Jillers

Awww. Cathy, thank you for posting that pic of Lala & I..... <3 She is (as are you) a terrific person and that hug shows my feelings!
