Ever been to AZ Laurie, its gets very cool at night! Just when the chick would need her fortunately. Great story Penny, was that from the Verde Valley area? Lots of eagles there. This is a little old, but still cute! It was featured on TV last night so I looked it up We have some great news from Melbourne Zoo: press releases from ABC News Australia and the Herald Sun officially announced the birth of two snow leopard cubs–one male and one female–to parents Meo and Leon. The cubs are yet unnamed, but they are cute as a button and are the Zoo’s first in 20 years. The cubs were actually born in December, but have been bonding with mom behind closed doors. They are just now being introduced to the public. Get the inside scoop from Sibylle, a snow leopard sponsor in Melbourne who is hosting her own blog. Thanks also to Kelly Hobbs, Senior Carnivore Keeper at the Melbourne Zoo. She provided us with this behind the scenes look at one of the cubs getting its first vaccination. Melbourne Zoo is a great Snow Leopard Trust supporter–and these little cubs are going to help raise awareness for their cousins in the wild. ![]() This month there was a Naming Contest (no contention here tho! LOL) The Herald Sun reports that Melbourne Zoo’s new snow leopard cubs are named Tashi and Gobi. The local paper held a naming contest for the cubs. Not only are the cubs the first in 20 years for the Zoo, but they are the first for mom Meo. But keepers say they are fat and happy–there is a great video here. ![]() And a Video Link! http://player.video.news.com.au/heraldsun/#11bT9DBieX0kg408Q1MNbXqYxiYtD_I4 Snow Leopard Trust (lots of links!) http://www.blog.snowleopard.org/?cat=5 |

I loved that story and video on the snow leopard cubs Ozzie I don't know where exactly in Arizona the nest is with the Supermom Bald Eagle. Maybe Fish and Wildlife didn't mention the location on purpose.

Gary home late tonight - I was busy packing up things for our troop's camping trip this weekend - a parent stopped by to pick up some of the equipment - and when I got home after work, I was greeted as usual by the sweet calls of Bugsie and Moty - our parakeets! However, a little while ago, Gary went to to visit with them before settling them in for the night when he discovered that Bugsie had passed. We're a bit in shock - he was seemingly healthy (has always been). A friend of ours hatched and hand raised Bugsie. He has been a wonderful addition to our family - he'd sit on the keyboard, your shoulder, tickle the back of your neck with his pecking, loving to surf on pieces of paper, and most of all - dedicated to his mate! He always greeted us in the morning and when we came home at the end of a work day. He called out in response to the eagle calls and birds around PH nest - from the computer! I knew nothing about birds but he opened my eyes! He stole my heart! He was loved and will be missed.
